This is why I moved away from using Google's services. You get used to using something and it goes away.

Congratulations!! [emoji3] I’m sure we all remember you, it hasn’t been that long has it? Has it? Nice to see you back

Amazing! But they need to bring Max Thunder back!!

It is supported but not recommended and I’d have to agree, it’s probably not a great thing to do. Personally I like to keep as much as possible off a DC and onto other machines. SCCM can be quite resource hungry especially the database so you’ll have to make sure you have a decent spec machine and take steps to stop sql server effecting performance. It might be presumptuous by IME a school with only one server has probably already got it running all manner of things and sticking something like SCCM in as well could really cause a problem. Another thing to consider is that it will require IIS and do you really want to open up that attack vector on a DC?

Ha! Blast from the past there. There used to be a file on the server that you could hack to control the build process better... oh what was it called? -
Start Menu - Cant Pin Mapped Drives or File Explorer
sparkeh replied to newpersn's topic in Windows 10
To pin map drives I put a shortcut to the mapped drive in the all users start menu and reference the AppID in the xml (the AppID is actually just the drive name eg “S:\”) -
I actually thought that the nature of the question was to do with the location of the xml (ie pointing the machine to a UNC path) rather than UNC shortcuts on the menu?
-
Yeah tiles pointing at unc paths just plain won't work, they have to come from the all users start menu. Where I need to do this I just map a drive and put a shortcut in the all users menu and point to that.
-
Yeah... kind of but I found it temperamental. I find it much more reliable to put the xml on the machine and point to that.

[ms office - 2016] Office 365 Click to Run: Device based activation
sparkeh replied to KevinB's topic in Office Software
Took me a long time to get the A1 Plus added. Basically you need I have OVS-ES agreement for Office an be approved as an educational establishment, then you enable self sign up and log in as an unlicensed student and unlicensed staff user and the licences will appear. It’s the approval that seems to be a real issue here. Although we were told that we were approved the person who solved our issue submitted a request to have us approved for A1 Plus. Tested a few days later and it finally worked. -

Secretary of State for Education -switching to cloud! Why took so long!!!
sparkeh replied to CloudGeek's topic in MIS Systems
I seem to remember one of the few bits of research done on the impact of investment in IT in schools found that, overall, IWB were a good investment in primary but bad in secondary. IWBs are used fantastically here, also terribly, depends entirely on the teacher and they engagement with technology. Its ironic that Hinds is repeating the mistake that he is calling out, ie a politician who doesn't really understand education pushing a technology he doesn't really understand. -
Office 365 A1 Plus for faculty licences missing!
sparkeh replied to CommodoreS's topic in Cloud Services
Yeah, we used to use GAFE and trying to get support with them was worse, just speaking to someone was a Herculean task. At least with MS I can shout at someone until it gets fixed -
As above, I to use PXE and walk round. I like to know that its kicked off and running. Also I know that you have to use pxe and enter a password to image the machine so reduces risk of accidentally wiping the estate (though if we had significantly more devices I would rethink this approach!)

Well I think I talked about it a few times as it was the topic of conversation. This is a place for conversation rather than an echo chamber. I’m not sure how to be involved in a discussion about a topic without referencing it. If my posting style irritates you, you are at liberty to ignore, you wouldn’t be the first and I’m sure not the last [emoji4]

Office 365 A1 Plus for faculty licences missing!
sparkeh replied to CommodoreS's topic in Cloud Services
Well I finally managed to get this sorted and the licences have appeared. The only advice I can give is that if you are eligible (have an volume agreement for Office) then you have to be persistent with 365 support. By persistent I mean make a complete PITA of yourself until your ticket is picked up by someone who has a clue about 365 licensing and what needs to be in place. For me it took weeks of daily phone calls to MS, being shouty and lodging a complaint about someone who refused to help and got quite rude with me. After the complaint the ticket was escalated to some one who fixed it in 5 mins by adding us to the approved academic institution list (which we had been told we were on but weren’t). Apparently this should have been done by all the people that handled the ticket but were more interested in trying to pass me on to another department or close it. I then used the self sign up for a student and a teacher and the licences appeared. -
