Simple to get started (fill in the teachers' timetables) but can do stock control and store experiment templates and other clever stuff. Web-based, so no installation. Free for the first year, and only £99 a year thereafter. If you want a look at how it works, I could add you to ours (if you promise not to book everything under the sun for tomorrow!) Do your Science Techs a favour - show them!

IF I could get my car in the garage (I can't as there's a motorcycle, washing machine, fridge and a freezer in it) there would be no hope of getting out of the car. You'd have to push it in. They are a brilliant microphone for this application... except they are terrible at rejecting mobile phone signal. Every handshake to the network will be picked up unless you can get the speaker to turn their phone OFF - not silent. You can get mounts that actually work, but you will have to pay for them. The AKG 747 system is good, but see above. I have used a mount with a rubber diaphragm before; fairly sure it came from Canford Audio, but I can't see it in their catalogue.
