  1. I think it points out to The Mail readers that if you cut funding to someone/thing then something you like might get chopped.
  2. I'd rather vote to kick Osborne & Whittingdale into orbit.
  3. And he has. "The child must attend school regularly". End of, that is the law. What the father argued, was that his child DID attend "regularly" and taking a week off at the end of therm DID NOT change that. The High Court agreed. No case to answer, end of.
  4. He was factually correct - his child attended school exactly as the law requires "Regularly".* Is the current law correct, or an ass? Moot point. Was this a special case? His entire family were going; very difficult to get a week everyone can do. Yes, I'd accept it was a special case. What would she miss in the last week of term? How many videos? How many word searches? A "special" assembly? Maybe a TIE play? * Once a week, every Thursday, is also regularly.
  5. Free display, but at 5 in the morning. Theatre tech here woken by it.
  6. "On the train" is ambiguous. You'd loose marks in the other tests for not spotting the 'illegal' UNDER the train.
  7. and the illegal immigrant holding on underneath? Does he/she count as "on the train"?
  8. All tooled up:- but nothing to see!
  9. Oh, if SMT want it, it probably needs to work too. And while I'm here, there's nothing in that wiki article that rules out using the tube as a pot, IF you could cut one without the kabooom! Lead in glass? There is lead in all glass
  10. Who said anything about breaking the tube? Did I miss something stupid?
  11. I've spent the last week or so fiddling with telescopes to watch this. (yes, safely!) It is almost guaranteed to be cloudy...
  12. With luck, Camoron won't have that time...
  13. Unless you drop it or a similarly dopy thing. Then it would implode.
  14. But way over here in the real world, so long as it has been off for a while, and you are careful.... I've recently got one from Freecycle to wave magnets at to demonstrate the nature of the beams in CRT tubes.
  15. Now children, please spell "U-Turn".
  16. Just the same in my house this (and tomorrow) morning!
  17. Bench bench? (OK, I have got it now...)
  18. Welcome to "New Think".
  19. They'd be happy if more of the authorities were right-wing.
  20. Except the other worst world, where schools get sold to Party donors, and there is no democratic control.
  21. 1) Being cynical 2) Being cynical
  22. 1) Who cares? The Academy has got rid of an expensive trouble maker. 2) The chains running local schools will build new schools where there is an identified need, but only if there is a profit in the short term.
  23. Oldest thing I've seen for a while is this thread... and I now see I wasn't the 1st to think that either.
  24. I believe so. Now confirmed; Epson ink.
  25. Any new thoughts on this? Mrs_C is an Art Tech in a school where they do A level photography. I'm getting a bit worn by the tirade of "Rude Words" when she gets home. They have two Epson Stylus Photo 1500Ws, and if they aren't used for a few days, she spends up to 3 hours cleaning nozzles. A few days is a long weekend, maybe no printing on Friday, gummed up on Monday. I'm wondering if there isn't a better technology (all be it at higher cost per print) that would "just work". They currently do proofs or "work in progress" on a laser, but final pieces, and display stuff on the ink jets. Wouldn't be networked for control reasons, run from teacher's PC.
