B4rn is a great solution however its not a nationwide thing its just the rural area around where I live (and some other members) but that kind of scheme needs some major planning and entire villages getting together not just a few houses.

SQL 2012 has gone ££££ its no longer per CPU either its per core so all these new 6 and 8 core CPUs are making it eyewateringly expensive as I have just priced up the SQL for our new box 12 cores of CPU Power its cheaper to license it as SQL plus CALS for all the users who will access it ! But still very expensive

Casios for sure, in classrooms we have XJ-A130, A140, M130, M135 and A131s (yes got a few different models now!) We have tried to standardise on the M130s now as they just seem to be great however had a cracking offer before Christmas on the A131s which are the new eco-models of the original A130s which we have a few of so took advantage of them being about £40 a unit less than the M130s. The ones with the wireless built in are for our Conference and Library so gives scope for wireless presentations both areas have dedicated PCs but you never know when you might want that option For my halls I am still using traditional lamped units, one has an NEC 5000 lumens unit and the other an Epson that is about 4000 lunmens I think and both are good, I don't think the LED kit is quite up to that specific need just yet and they have limited inputs on them compared to the big units we have already (our NEC has about 7 different inputs into it which is great for presentations, school events etc... so the Casio would be very limiting for us.

They are great people at B4rn AKA Broadband 4 the Rural North They have some great blog posts online to read and some good photos on Facebook as well so well worth a look at them. You can even for a small fee have you name on a section of the fibre ductwork so you are part of the network wherever you are in the UK or even world I live on the edge of it (about 20 minutes drive away which sounds a while but its all rural here!) so have seen the signs and know some people on it / waiting for it to arrive and good luck to them. One of the directors is one of the original guys behind CLEO when it was Lancaster University and other directors are from IT / Telco background so they know there stuff

I have a Smoothwall UTM-1000 in and have implemented BYOD on my network and its working brilliantly, infact my LA are also using Smoothwall so nearly all the schools in North Yorkshire are using Smoothwall for filtering (there are odd exceptions but even some of them are moving over). It has been a great product for us and I wouldn't be without it at all and certainly should I change schools I will miss it (so will have to buy it again!) as it just does as I want without fuss and just works its very rare I have to do anything to / with it which is a blessing in such a busy place.

Cheap ones are usually not good over a long distance I have a fairly decent one and that is good at emitting a good tone through plaster and I can certainly walk using it as a true finding tool in a sea of rubbish and find the cable

If you are running Windows 7 on it it will sort itself out as long as it and the controller say to it that it is an SSD, my Win 7 box turned Defrag off on the drive and it sorts page files out as needed etc... I was very impressed but the Intel Chipset on my board is quite a good one so tells windows its an SSD.

I tried it on the PC and its interesting, apps that need GPS fail to work even with FakeGPS running which works when you use a map app but some apps that are location based such as Foursquare still don't get it right. Glad its coming on though

The License is only valid when used with the Promethean Hardware. You can buy new licenses for the software however I believe from other threads on here asking this question they are not cheap. Someone said an alternative way around this is to by the Voting System or Slates they do as that then re-licenses you but I am not sure if that is fully correct. Best advice is contact Promethean / your authorised reseller

SharePoint is very much what you need, use the version that matches the version of MS Office you run and you get 100% perfect integration so you can save direct to it and edit directly from it no re-uploads or anything. Ties in with AD its bliss
