I've seen a couple of auctions for the contents of independent schools.. working in an independent school you realise how vulnerable you are and one day it could be the contents of our buildings up for auction!

We have quite a few 2520 series gigabit POE switches, and a few 2530-24G POE and non POE switches and all are working fine and not had any issues with them.

We have some of these in our primary school. Not had a broken pair yet, you can bend/twist them and they don't break! Having a replaceable 3.5mm jack cable is nice also Easi-Headphones®

Is your experience with the original AirCam models or the newer UniFi Video Camera range?

If I was in your situation I'd certainly be looking at the Ubiquiti UniFi wireless products to replace the HP system and possibly even the UniFi switches if you're looking to replace all the switches (Ubiquiti UniFi Switch - 4Gon Solutions). We rolled out a UniFi wireless network across our school and it's been excellent. We used HP POE switches, this decision was because the network was all HP ProCurve gigabit switches so it made sense to stick with the same brand so terminology between switches would be consistent.

Which part of it is becoming unreliable? If the hardware is all ok, could you just back it up and install a fresh modern OS on it?

What are the specifications of the speakers that it will be powering, this will dictate what amplifier you will need.

Air con set to 16, cheapo thermometer in the server room reads 17. I'm surprised the air con unit hasn't died yet.

We have a Kyocera FS-C5350 in our office and causes very few issues. We have had issues with the FS-C5100 and FC-C5150 printers though

One of our suppliers offered them at that price, until the end of March though so I'm not sure what price they'll be now. The 10,000 hours you quote for the EB-570 lamp is when it's used in eco mode, which then takes the Epson down to less than half the lumens of the Casio UST. I think it would be realistic to say that you wouldn't be using the Epson in eco mode unless you were in a room with no windows.

I'm holding out for Veeam Endpoint (free) so that we can backup a couple of physical servers to our existing Veeam repository.

I haven't used the Casio UST projectors yet, we've installed many of the standard Casio projectors though and are really pleased. I got some pricing last week for the EB-570 and the Casio UST, the Casio was only £20 more until the end of March, not sure how much it would be now. Drop me a PM if you want the details of the supplier. I'd say the Casio is worth the extra, you get an extra 2 years warranty over the Epson, you don't have to worry about replacement lamps or cleaning filters, and the power consumption is less which you should really take in to consideration over the 5 years.

If you license the Windows OS via EES with Software Assurance you can install Windows 7/8 Enterprise etc on any qualifying desktop, if it has a XP Home, Vista Home license etc.. Macintosh is also in the list of qualifying operating systems so no additional licensing is needed. With servers, depending on whether it's physical or virtual there are various different options. You can licensing Windows Server Standard with Software Assurance for around £26 per year. If you're in a virtual environment and you have live migration, you need a server license per host that the server could run on. It could work out cheaper to license Windows Server Datacenter (licensed per 2x CPU) instead for around £150 per year, this would cover you to run unlimited copies of Windows Server on the server and allow for live migration. I'm not a MS licensing expert and the information I've given you has probably all changed since I read up about it all...

We had one of these systems up until a couple of years ago, ripped it out and replaced with a NEC VOIP system. Also managed to sell the old system for a bit of extra cash

I haven't done any calculations, but the performance from a room a Pentium 4s will be pretty poor and the power usage will be huge, you'd be better off buying some more modern desktop or multi cored server and running it on that instead.

Viglen and Stone desktops, can get the spec we want at a reasonable price with a 5 year warranty. Usually Samsung laptops.

Don't forget to add on the OS license (if using Windows)!

We've been affected since this morning. YouTube didn't work in Firefox or Chrome either, only received an update from RM around 12:30. Seems to be working again now. RM really need to get their act together if they're going to try and supply business class broadband at the price they're charging.

We're running UniFi in a secondary school, a mix of standard UAP's, Pro's , and AC units. Works well along with our Smoothwall box to provide BYOD radius authentication.

We use UniFi across our entire site (over 90 APs). Can't recommend it enough. There's no way we could justify a system from the likes of Meru. In our prep school of around 250 we have 8 standard UniFi APs covering the whole building.

could you set up content filtering on Exchange 2007 and find a list of naughty words to add to it, then reject and emails containing words on the list?
