IIRC, Microsoft changed the licensing again. SQL is licensed per core. But you need a minimum of 2x 1 core licenses.

We go for the Casio LED projectors and have found them great. The new Casio Core projector (announced at BETT) should be coming along soon with a price of around £450 so should make the decision even easier. When you look at the costs of say an Epson projector, add on the additional lamp, the fact the warranty is only 3 years, the time for swapping lamps, cleaning filters, extra electricity used over the 5 years then a Casio tends to work out costing about the same if not cheaper.

I have a Mini 0803 camera with GPS. The quality is pretty good for the price. I think there's a Mini 0805 and 0806 now. I've got the wire for it run in the headlining and down the A pillar down to behind the glovebox where it's powered from.

I assume there is power to the amp and you've checked the speaker wires are still connected? Have you tried a known working microphone? Or a phono to jack cable and a phone? Are the appropriate zone 1/2 buttons pressed in?

Just beware that only the UniFi Video Camera Pro is suitable for outdoor use with a proper IP rating. The UniFi Video Camera says it's ok for outdoor use, then says under a overhang!

We deal with all of the AV here, classroom projectors and speakers to large professional projectors, video switchers, distribution amps and PA systems and stage lighting in our performance spaces. I'm employed as IT but I have prior background knowledge in these fields and I enjoy doing a bit more than just IT all the time so I don't really mind it. The only annoying part is SLT think that we have equipment suitable for everything. We don't. They then wonder why a basic little 2 speaker PA can't be heard across the field on sports day...

We have the same problem, and we have a lot of fibres! I was looking at UV resistant cable ties as I think the UV from the sun causes the plastic to degrade. Not sure if it's just a marketing con though..

I'd look at a regular IP camera and a pair of Ubiquiti NanoStations. Point-point link back to a building with network connection.

Glad to see it was of some use! Oldest thing we've got lurking around would probably be a random ZX81, or a couple of old RM 380Z machines. Last time I check eBay one had sold for over £600, not working!!

The previous IT guy gave me a run-through on terminating fibre (ST connectors) during our handover period. We've got one of these kits Buy Fibre Optic Kits AMP LightCrimp+ ST/SC/LC termination kit TE Connectivity 1278118-4 online from RS for next day delivery. . It's quite straightforward once you've done a couple. Although for replacement fibres we're probably going to go down the route of buying pre-terminated fibre of the correct length or using Ubiquiti AirMax links.

We used to have our website hosted by RM with an uptime guarantee of 99.9%. The hosting was so unreliable and RM didn't really seem to mind that the site wasn't available 99.9% of the time. We moved to Managed Hosting | Dedicated Servers & Cloud Hosting | UKFast on one of their managed cloud platforms. The hosting is so much more reliable. Since moving the site hasn't been down once. They have a proper SLA with penalties. Excellent support and notification systems also.

We use Meraki Systems Manager for a few laptops we have that get loaned out. I believe it uses some form of VNC to provide remote control.

I made one for my desk at home a couple of years ago. You know, before floppy disks were cool! I made one for the office more recently. A teacher took it in to an ICT lesson and the kids didn't have a clue what they were!!

Just tried the portal on the Nexus 7 next to me. If I go to a http:// site the voucher prompt comes up, if I try to browse a https:// site first I don't get the voucher prompt, or the website.

I've just upgraded our site from 3.2.1 to 3.2.7 and not found any issues yet. The guest portal and vouchers are still working for us.

We've recently installed an IAG ClassChange system AD5 Classchange from IAG Technology Ltd to replace a PC with some awful software. It rings various dedicated bells via a bunch of relays and messy cabling! We've got it linked in to a fire alarm panel in a separate building via IP where it rings the fire bells via the class change input on the alarm panel. The fire alarm is a continuous ringing, the class change is a pattern of rings and pauses (as programmed onthe controller). We're going to look to move the other buildings over to using the fire alarm bells also as they are maintained whereas the old class change bells are not. The IAG system is good as it can use IP sounders so you only need relatively short runs of cat5e from the cabs to where you'd like new bells, rather than everything running back to a central location for control.

What projectors do you have? Do they have network functionality? You might be able to install the network management software and schedule them to shutdown after school etc.

Lamp life is usually 2-3000 hours. Not 30,000 hours!!!

Are you referring to the Smoothwall 802.1x RADIUS/BYOD authentication? We've set it up and haven't had any issues. currently running UniFi 3.2.1.

We've got a mix of teacher PCs of varying ages. We buy a batch each year and replace the oldest. We've been going for i3's lately (the latest generation at the time), 8GB RAM, an SSD and a 21.5" monitor. We decided against the Stone ITX PCs and went for the Stone USFF as they were cheaper and have an internal PSU! Never had an issue with a Stone PC (laptops on the other hand...), but having a 5 year NBD OSW included as standard is brilliant!

I can certainly recommend JPSL Technical Services JPSL Tech . They do very neat installs in halls that just work!

I've used JPSL Technical Services for a few installs. Some smaller ones (classroom projectors) and some bigger ones (assembly hall AV systems). Their work has always been good and they give good advice on the equipment.
