  1. We had major lag issues accessing O365 mailboxes via Outlook 2010, so after a year of continuous pain, migrated back on-prem again.
  2. This is what we did. Depending on your school name there are some nice looking domain names, eg .college .academy and I think .school They just cost a little more, £25 per year from memory. Meldrew.
  3. Certainly in our case, some parents don't trust them 'puters.
  4. Yep. Seen this today. I don't think ANY school would comply. Its the sort of thing a multinational bank would have to comply with.
  5. We aren't allowed to use duct tape on our floors. It apparently damages the polish. We only use silage tape that is completely plastic and comes away without taking the polish too presumably. Meldrew
  6. If such a thing did exist, you'd need prior consent from parents for recording biometric data, plus all the GDPR implications. It would be much easier for someone to just write down their names or even better, get the members to write down their own names. Meldrew.
  7. How have I managed to miss this? I wonder where series 1 ends - at the end of the first book? Really looking forward to the Amber spyglass parts.
  8. We had a D-Link system, then moved to unifi. The difference is unbelievable. We use LinITX. They are apparently the UK distributor for Unifi kit.
  9. How about thinking about it in 2 halves. See if you can find a trolley type of thing and a suitable VESA mount, then look at ways of joining the two together.
  10. I seem to remember we found that the latest Abobe CC packages only work on Win 10. We had to push ahead with our Win 10 migration for our Art department because of it.
  11. For around the same price you could buy some IP phones, host a 3cx phone system, then use its broadcast facility to message all phones at once. Then you've got a phone system too.
  12. 3cx is just brilliant. We've had it for 9 years now and apart from an issue a year or two, which support was really helpful with, its been faultless. Easy to use and so cheap compared to the alternatives. Would definitely recommend - in fact we've acted as a testimonial for a number of schools when requested by our supplier. Meldrew Edit: typo.
  13. This. Or other product. They want your business and can be very flexible with the price. Melders
  14. This is general research. It was sent to the head of PE here, who sent it out to all students and staff without checking with me first (as per our GDPR policy) because 'it had to go out in a rush' - grr! The privacy policy they provided when I queried them is: https://www.shu.ac.uk/about-this-website/privacy-policy/privacy-notices/privacy-notice-for-research It states there will be an information sheet, which I've not seen and when the survey loads there isn't any GDPR information at all. Meldrew
  15. Hi. An organisation has sent us 2 surveys, one for staff, one for students about sport. They ask for the school name, DOB and job role (for staff) and tutor group (for students). Critically, they also ask for ethnicity (a special category of data). In my view it is not anonymous as there is enough information to identify someone, but the organisation insists it is not as no name is asked for and they are therefore compliant. Views would be appreciated. Many thanks, Meldrew.
  16. Thanks @Arthur, for the link. Do you happen to know what the difference is between Corretto 8 and 11? Meldrew
  17. We've run Abobe CC and CS6 side by side, no problem. Out of curiosity, we've implemented the change to the new licencing and although you need Adobe logins for the users, you can still have the software on the same number of PCs, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're doing... Meldrew
  18. We've been trying to do this over Easter. We're new to DPM, so are starting from scratch installing DPM 2019. So far found that we had to install SQL 2016 SP2 as otherwise had difficulty installing SSRS when using SQL 2017. Then followed a list of issues too numerous to mention that we had to work our way through to get the thing installed. Software really, should never be this difficult to install. All the way through was 1 step forwards, 2 steps back. Meldrew
  19. I haven't any particular experience, but I wouldn't expect them to let you in to do cabling. This would be tricky when it comes to the defects period. You might be able to agree that they put some sort of containment in the walls and a pull through... Don't be afraid to haggle and check absolutely every word of the contract with them to see exactly what you will and won't be getting. Most likely if something isn't mention, you don't get it. Relatives of mine who purchased a new build for example got the front garden landscaped (for lack of a better word), but the back garden basically like a ploughed field. Meldrew.
  20. Saw this parked at the school during a parents evening:
  21. PSF here. Wish we'd gone for anything else. Surely nothing can be as bad as this and cost the ££££££ that it does. Want to add another school, that'll be another small mortgage. But when they do the work, without fail they'll do a slap-dash job and will spend the next month fixing the stuff they forgot to do initially, or broke something else in the process. Worst financial software ever. Meldrew
  22. Its not the problem of the exam boards. If there's a breach, as the school sent the material, its us that gets the fine. They're not liable, so they don't bother doing anything about it. Meldrew.
  23. I had something similar years back and I was able to get the name transferred via nominet for around £10. I must have had an account with nominet or I was able to prove ownership, I can't quite remember the details. Meldrew.
  24. Are we talking access to MyPortal, or PSF client software running inside a RDP session, eg RDS?
  25. You could create a report to show the data. then schedule it to be exported using SIMS command reporter every day. You could then prove they were in there (at some point) and when they went missing. Meldrew.
