Hi After a bit of advice on this as my head is a shed with it. We have become a MAT and Headteacher wants all schools connected. One primary will be the main site with all the servers / data. The main site currently has a Virgin 152Mb connection that has around 8mb upload. Which is around £80 a month My current options at the moment are: 1 - Sophos UTM at the main site with other schools utilising a RED15. Route all off-site internet traffic straight to the internet and inter-site stuff to the main site. 2 - An MPLS leased line solution at the main site and other schools in the MAT. They are then connected at ISP level rather than relying on the main site. The down side to this is the circa £4500 a year cost per site. Thoughts / suggestions please.

'Modern' equivalent to SmartBoards?
karldenton replied to Ben_Stanton's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We use Mimio. Put a basic drywipe whiteboard in a classroom and Mimio in one corner. Teachers can write on the board but also use it interactively with the pen. -
I have been looking into this too. Have a look at Sophos UTM at each site - might work out expensive but does site-to-site over low bandwidth.

Has anyone read about the upcoming Office 365 planner app? Looks good for team planning, sharing tasks etc https://blogs.office.com/2015/09/22/introducing-office-365-planner/

Does anyone have any issues with the following software? We are just in the process of looking at MAT Finance software: Sage 200 Online (Education) PS Financials FMS Multiview (Capita) Thanks

Moved on-prem Exchange and on-prem Lync server to Office 365 exchange and Skype for business. Never looked back - as long as internet works it works. Have 2 virgin lines in and also a backup plus net line. Starting to use the O365 groups feature so the intranet is going to the cloud after half term. If only @Bromcom-PR would quote something similar to what we are paying for on-prem MIS for there cloud version I would move to that tomorrow but can't justify the £1,500 a year extra !

Do any of you guys work in the main School office?
karldenton replied to Snookered's topic in General Chat
Oh yes, I was in the admin office with 15 other admin people (finance, MIS staff etc). Plus an old Gestekner (Spelling) photocopier !! It got way too noisy. Like you just had a desk. Fortuntely moved to our own room now and its great. -
Microsoft to move out of the education market?
karldenton replied to Dave_O's topic in Licensing Questions
It really does make you think about future planning. I was going to do a £25,000 SAN with 2 vmware hosts, backup veeam, sophos utm and 6 RED's across all our sites this summer, but like everyone says, might be worth moving to Azure / OneDrive if it will be cheaper. -
Thanks, the switches are, Netgear FS750T2 and GS748T

Thanks, so is there a way to assign certain IP range to a certain OU / Site
-
At present they are directaccess so its that that gives out an IPV6 address. There will be a Sophos UTM on the main site with the other sites connected via a Sophos RED15, which if I've read it correctly, gives the clients at that end IP addresses off the main LAN - its just like a long network cable. (I think)

I was thinking 172.160.1 - 172.16.255.254 on a 255.255.0.0 subnet giving 65534 addresses :) We don't have any VLans and the switches are not really up to it. I'd like to assign it so for EG 0.x = servers, 1.x = Site 1 computer, 2.x = Site 2 printers etc Would this be OK? Happy for any suggestion

Hi Moving to a few server setup hopefully in the summer and will be setting up most things from scratch. We currently have a DHCP superscope internally with address 10.10.6.x , 7.x, 8.x, 9.x and 10.x What is the best way going forward to create a future proof scope. We have external nurseries that will be on the same LAN so they need a range ideally. We have become a MAT so could take on another school so eventually they will be on the same lan. Can you make it so certain OU's in AD pickup a certain range of addresses ? Thanks

Hi Which colour laser printers are people currently buying for schools? We have HP C3525 and they are not bad on ink pricing but we have a HP M552 and if we buy the "X" toners they cost a fortune ! Just wondered what people find best value for money Thanks

A few users have an issue when opening word - saying it can't find shortcuts to some files. These files are on network drives that no longer exist. I'm presuming its in a list somewhere of recent files. Can I clear it some how. Its doing it on lots of machines Thanks

Absolutely, we're a large primary 450+ and use Bromcom for registers, data etc.

I think there was a lot less freebies than there has been in the past

Hi, we have setup meeting rooms in O365 and shows up on the room list in outlook. Is there a way for staff to see the subject of the room booking without giving them full access to the room mailbox? It just shows as busy in the outlook calendar unless I give them full access. Thanks

Hi Liam, We use it for all our external nurseries and out of school clubs. The nurseries use it all day every day. When I started here it was a major issue but it was down to a previous bad setup. Touch wood it runs perfect now. Someone doesn't need to log on internally first - our out of school club staff log on at the club and never venture to the main site. I can be a nightmare with the digital certificates.

We pay roughly £700 a month for 49 phones over 8 sites (2 have dedicated broadband). That includes reception console, 1 softphone, several premium licenses (ring phone as well as desk phone etc), auto attendant changes for holidays, voicemail etc etc.

Just installed it on work PC, have it set in night time setting all the time 3000k as we're in an office with no windows !
