Hello, Just recently, we have had a weird internet glitch. When a user logs on and opens the internet, it seems to take ages to display the home page, then you get a 404. If you then imediately try again it works. The problem doesn't occur again until they log off. We are running a ContentCache box, which the computers use as the proxy. There isn't anything on the logs in there. From there is the ISP's firewall. It just seems like it taking ages to authenticate on somewhere. Any ideas? Thanks Karl

OK guys, thanks foe the help. Like i said, i have this vbs file which works fine when you run it as any user. I have put it in a shared location on the network. In gp, user config, windows settings, scripts, logon i have put a path to a logon script, which is : \\2003server\SharedArea\ITTechnician\LibraryPrinter\liblogon.bat The script executes: "cscript.exe \\2003server\SharedArea\ITTechnician\LibraryPrinter\libdefault.vbs". Done a gpupdate /force but still does't seem to work. Any ideas. Thanks again

Hello, I would like a batch file to rung at system startup/userlogon to set the default printer for all users. I set it as administator but it then doesn't change for users. I can't really put it in the logon.bat as its only needed for one room and the other rooms have a different default. Thanks

Hello, I finish at my current job in 2 weeks. My boss has decide to copy all my files to his Home directory so he has a copy if i delete mine. I am going to delete them from his but they will be on the backup tape. Is is possible to delete a folder from the restore list on backup exec? Thanks Karl

Hello, I set a message to be displayed before logon (Interative Logon: Message title for users attempting to logon). The message was no longer needed to i said it back to not defined. However, it appears on some machines only still. I have done gpupdate / force with no difference. Also doubled checked through the policys on both DC's and they are all not set. Any ideas? Thanks guys, Happened again at 6:57 this morning. The only thing on the log was access from googlebot on robots.txt I've changed the password. Does anyone know what permission should be on the root, www, and index.html ? They are set to 750, which gives user - read,write,execute, group - read and execute, and world nothing. Thanks Karl

Hi guys, Thanks for the replys. By a virus- i mean when you load the page, it loads, but at the bottom, it says loading http://*****.** - this is usually a site that has the virus. It then pops up at the top - page wants to run ***.exe. I wil change the password but i'm pretty certain no-one has it. The permission on the www folder is 750. When the site has been "attacked" the index.html modified date is different to the local version. Next time it happens i will check the access log. I agree- i think its the server been exploitable. Hello, I designed and maintain a website for a local guest house. The host is student web hosting. I seem to constantly be getting a virus on the site, at least 3 times a week. I don't have any php or scripts running so it can't be an exploit of that. It seems to create a script at the bottom of the page that runs when the page is loaded. A simple re-upload of index.html gets rid of it. Thanks Karl

The problem we had was that it installed it on the default C:\ even though we selected to install it on E:\. We needed to install all the SQL options IE reporting services etc Once installed there is nothing to do in Sims.net, it works just the same. Be careful though as there is a current problem that all new workstation installations, installed after SQL2005 are incredably slow. Capita are working on this. Hello, Just got a new machine for the office and struggling with Outlook. Always get a cannot recieve message. Installed the isa2004 firewall client for vista , which successfully connects to the isa server. Put my settings into Outlook but doesn't work Any help would be appreciated as i don't like the RM webmail Karl

Hi, One of our Admin lasses is having problems with mail merge in Office 2003. When she does the merge, any address with a letter in the house number, eg 12A , they appear in the letter as 0. All other numbers work fine. Any ideas?

Hi, I am currently looking for IT technician/technical manager/network manager vacancies near York/Leeds. I have been working as an IT Technician in a school for 4 years now. I initially started using AD changing passwords etc. i am now maintaining the schools servers and computers i.e. using Symantec Backup Exec, Active Directory, installing networked software, and installing, managing and maintaining the network servers. i have also designed and scheduling the installation of two new ICT suites- liaising with contractors and computer supplies to ensure the rooms were completed to a high standard. i am responsible to update and maintain the College’s website and intranets using PHP/MySQL and IIS.Responsible for training new technicians/team members. I have also just completed a Foundation Degree in computer Systems and Networks at Leeds Met.
