Hi guys, Yeah, we had a problem with the name for My Documents in desktop.ini so going round deleting the profiles as i've made a new default profile. Thats in the netlogon folder but obviously won't be picked up for users who have logged onto a pc before. Where in the default profile is printer settings? Or do i have to create a new profile without it in? If i used the 2003server R2 tools to deploy a printer, will that make it default or will the photocopier still take over? (if i don't delete the profile)

Hi, Have an annoying issue here where whenever a machine is joined to the domain, it automatically gets a Ricoh photocopier as the default printer. When you then add a printer and set it as default, when you logon as a different user the photocopier is still the default. The guy before me created a dodgy default profile and i recon it could be picking it up from there. I'm going round this summer deleting all the profiles as i've made a new default user. Do we think that could be the problem? Thanks

Hi, Thinking of moving from LEA filtering to Websense. Has anyone any idea of the cost? Is it per client or per user? Thanks

Thanks for that info too. If you run a reg file on logon, will it still work with student permissions? tried a printer script before but didn't work on student logon.

Thanks cookie_monster. If i untick the "Automatically detect settings" it goes out straight away. Is there any way of disabling in GP? THanks

Seems the home page problem is to do with the machines coming with AOL toolbar on. Although i removed that, did ccleaner and regcure it still redirects. ARGH !!

Thanks for the advice on the cache etc. Getting stressed with the home page thing now though. Set the GPO as enforced but like i said, it wasn't set in there at all, and neither is the proxy settings ??? The link on the desktops even point to the right home page but its as though something from HP is taking over !!!

Hi leegcvcc, Did gpupdate /force but the same outcome. Yeah, the rest of the machines in the OU are working fine. These are some new ones that someone else installed. In group policy though, there is no home page set on any policy so i'm not sure where its getting it from. I added it in, did a /force but no difference. Karl

Yeah definitely the cache so will try and get that sorted. Related problem though - on some new HP machines, whoever you log on as the homepage is myAOL | HP for Small Business When i change it as administrator is is still HP for all other users. I have set it in GP and regedit to the correct one but still does it. Thanks

Think (i hope) i've tracked it down to the contentcache. If i use the proxy at our isp it works fine with no delay. Looks like its that stupid thing !
-
Hi, Yeah the contentcache is more of a cut-down version of isa - don't ask, it was already in place when i got the job !! Sorry - its not the contentcache that is the default gateway, its the router. Think i will try by-passing everything. Thanks

Hi all, This thread is related to http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/18091-internet-problem.html Still not managed to solve it and still think its a problem with DNS. At machine level DNS is set to the DC. The gateway is set to the ContentCache(ISA) box. The proxy is also set to that. On the server, the network card DNS is set to itself and the router. The forward lookup settings in DNS are set to 193.164.97.35 and 212.44.55.100 which are Redstone's DNS (or so they say). When you tracert to them you get trace complete but the last hop says Destination Net Unreachable. The router DNS and ContentCache DNS are set to the above ip's. On the router DDNS is disabled but it has the options of dyndns.org and t2o.com Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks Karl

Hi, I have a Brother 4050CDN in a classroom and has worked fine for ages. When you now send something to the que it says "Printing - Spooling" then failes. Have re-installed the printer on the network with a new ip address and port but still the same. Network to it is working as you can get to its webpage. Any ideas? Thanks Karl

Just been on to our isp and they suggest its an internal dns issue. The client pc's are set up to obtain dns automatically. The DC has dns set to the proxy server (primary), and the router (secondary). Both the router and the proxy server are then set to the ISP DNS's of 212.44.55.100 & 193.164.97.35. Thanks

Anyone any ideas what could be the DNS fault / solution if it is DNS? Thanks

Hi, Had a look on the desktop.ini of several users documents in C:/documents and settings. In the Owner= it says owner=bradburya. However, the line above is [deleteoncopy], which should mean when it copies the profile it doesn't copy that line.
-
Still not managed to solve this one either. Seems to do it when joined to domain even without toolbars installed. Could it be do to with permissions, IE trying to update itself? THanks
-
Thanks, do you mean the server OS installation? It does it on new machines when they are joined to the domain.
-
Hello, When users go into C:/Docs & Settings/username they see there own documents but the folder says bradburya's documents. This occurs on every PC. Also in MS Office, it seems to think its registered to bradburya (who is a user on the network) even if we type something else into the install. Any ideas where its getting this information from? Thanks Karl

ezzauk, the dns forwards on the content cache is set to Redstone ISP, 193.164.99.83 and 193.164.97.11 Karl

Doing IPconfig reveals as expected, DNS set to dc. Home page is St John's Catholic School for the Deaf Online Learning.

Could this be related to my post "Internet Problem" where the home page is displayed after pressing refresh. Not IE7 though.
