Hi, We had a router go down last night so i have put on in as a spare. Its the same IP address. Made no changes on the school network and internet and Outlook work fine. On the admin network (which is a one way trust to school), the external proxy doesn't work, and i have had to use our cache box, which we very rarely use as proxy. So internet works but not outlook 2000 !. Any ideas?

Got a HP 3700n printer and after upgrading the machines to XP, Windows now wants to print on both sides all the time. If you change the settings for the user, the next time they logon its back to the other. The settings on the server are OK. Can you disable duplex on the printer? I have turned manual feed off. Hi Ross, Have a look at: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/18091-internet-problem.html Managed to solve this in the holidays - turned out to be a registry thing that came from ISDN - default profile not set up correctly. Did a registry export before the error and after and compared the difference.

Hi, Someone has just pointed out that on a pc, when they open Excel it works fine. But if they have publisher open, then try to open excel they get a runtime error. I have checked both XLStart folders and there is nothing in there. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, On some new HP machines we bought, they come with pdf complete installed, which seemed to take over from Adobe 8. I removed them over the summer, loaded a pdf file and assocated the file with Adobe, and it works fine. However, when a different user logs on, they get the "don't know file type" box, but if they select Adobe from the list it works fine. Is there a way to assocate with Adobe across the domain rather for every user? Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to write a macro to find a specific cell in Excel. I am typing the value into Cell B9 and want it to search from C15:C300. However, when i click search it highlights cell B9, which is logical as that is whats its looking for. Hi, Just got found to looking at the Tests Just, with all the other summer jobs going on.! I've given students and staff, full control over the QCA Testing folder locally, and on the server but still get an error when loading. The error is "An error has occured in the Delivery Point System Application". The type initializer for "uk.org.QCA.TDS.COMPONENTS.CTDSLogger through an exception. RM Say its a Winsuite problem. Thanks but this is on a fresh XP install. We don't have roaming or mandatory profiles. Just as it comes with the Winsuite add-in. Might be quicker for me to do via registry in all users startup rather than messing about trying to trouble shoot. Any ideas what the reg file would be to take the tick out? Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to prevent the tick box, "check if internet explorer is default browser" been ticked. I have disabled the policy User Config > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer "changing default browser check " However, its still ticked for members of staff, and originally they hve to untick it and it works fine. I've done something though and now when they untick it, it re-ticks itself on load of IE. I have disabled it, in all policys applied to that machine. Also, the policy to show the "Programs" page overrides this. We use Winsuite which does remove that page for pupils, so the policy isn't getting applied to them. Any ideas? Could i do it through a regedit at logon? Thanks

Any more ideas on this. Its as thought its not finding the proxy on the first page load. Then afterwards its ok. I've logged on as a new user and the correct one is in the registry (Current_User) before they open IE ??

OK, almost there I think !! If you log onto a machine as someone whos hasnt before, you get the error. If you open Internet Options, make no changed but close it again, there is then no delay. Even after a restart. Obviously this is a pain for staff but pupils don't have access to IE Options. Any ideas? At least we know where to look now !

Thanks Michael. Forgot to mention that was on the forwarders in DNS itself. Got a little bit further with this. Seems the delay is no longer apparent for administrators or staff, just for pupils?

Ok, just joined a new machine to the domain. No IE add-ons. Correct proxy picked up from GP, and is the same in registry. Also tried shorterning to the timeout value from 5 to 3 seconds on DNS. Still the same. Grrrr. Me is thinking something with dns could be at fault. In DNS its set to 193.164.97.35 and 212.44.55.100 which are our isp.

Ok, spoke with Isp and they say that ICMP been blocked has nothing to do with the delay. They say "The only thing I can think of is that the proxy settings are being overridden and turned off until the initial page loads (or does not in this case). We have seen similar strange issues in the past with browser plugins/add-ons, some of which are malicious. I would suggest checking what add-ons are running in IE (Tools>manage Add-Ons in IE7) and disabling them to see if that makes a difference." Have disabled add-ons but still the same. Me thinks there might be a wrong proxy setting in a registry somewhere thats been copied from an old default profile. Might write a vb script to set the correct proxy on log on and give that a go ! Any other suggestions?

Thanks, tried that but still the same. Thought i'd give Wireshark a go. 2 results are shown below in this post, one is staff one is administrator. All the ip's 192.168.42.* are on the local network, all the rest including 192.168.192.1 are external at redstone4schools. On the staff one there is a black line that says communication administratively filtered. Would like to know if thats local or at isp. Thanks

Grrr, thought i'd found the solution but don't seem to have. Wors for administrator but not pupils or staff.?

Finally found a solution to this. Thought it was the "Automatically detect settings" but it wasn't. In the end it was that the tick box "Automatically check if IE is the default broswer" was ticked. Unticked that and it works fine. Thanks for your help.

No, where still running IE6, and that page seems to be the IE7 download page. The computer is in the domain so will give that reg file a go. Will it work when a student logs on as they won't have access to edit the registry. I'm also presuming that the above reg edit (no updates) includes that page too.

This will probably have been descussed before but i can't seem to solve the problem. After a few openings of IE, the page changes to go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54843 I have a reg file that should stop this .. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "NoUpdateCheck"=dword:00000001 But it only does it for current user. Any ideas? Thanks
