In an ideal world, how would you setup a MAT infrastructure? I was thinking about a server at each outreach school, acting as file server and DC. Email is office 365 anyway. Was thinking of a domain at each site, all in a forest and replicated so it can be managed centrally. Thanks

Hi Can anyone recommend a course in the North of England for my technician. He's worked with me for about a year, can follow a set of instructions but trouble shooting isn't great. Don't want to send him on a Microsoft course as it will be too much for him. Does A+ and N+ still exist? I know MCDST is no more. Thanks

Hoping to put a bid into management to see if they can get me a Windows 8 or 10 tablet for network management. Mainly for going round our other sites, setting up wifi, testing connections etc etc. I will upgrade the OS to an enterprise version as I could do with direct access. Whats the cheaper alternatives to a surface pro 3 as they won't pay for one of those. Looking at something like Asus Transformer Book T100 Thanks

Thanks Alex. Without single sign on, do they still just enter the password once on their office pc and it remembers it?

Hi, Does anyone know if you can bond 2 lines together on a Sophos UTM> We are moving to Office 365 in the summer and will have a redudant 150MB virgin broadband line so would like to purchase a UTM and bond the 2 connections together to get 300MB (or at least load-balanced). Can you also add a 3rd line from a different supplier as the backup line? Thanks

Thanks Alex, we will be using outlook on most machines so single sign-on would be good but I'm presuming if you set autodiscover correctly, they'll only have to put their password in once on there machine ?

We have DECT phones on VoIP (not over wifi). I've not seen it where you can "move around base stations". We have around 3 phones connected to a base station and that covers us for a 2 story nursery.

So far I have registered the domain with Microsoft and been accepted as educational. I have “purchased” 300 users on E1 for £0. What is the next step? Do we need to do hybrid or cutover migration? Initially I’m presuming its hybrid. Once all the users have migrated across can we then switch to a cutover and turn our on-premises off? I don’t want to keep it in hybrid mode completely as I’d like to get rid of the on-premises servers. Can you move a few users over to the cloud rather than doing them all? I’m presuming once we’ve done hybrid mode we have to change the autodiscovery dns records on both the godaddy account and on premisis DNS server. Do you still need a digital certificate? Has anyone successfully got it working with on-premises Lync? Many Thanks

Hi We currently have Exchange 2010 on site and I am wanting to move to Office 365. I have registered with the trial and tested the features etc. I didn't register the domain with Microsoft as I was told once I did mail wouldn't get delivered to our on-site server. We will run in hybrid mode to migrate the mail boxes then do away with our exchange on premises. First question: Can I register the domain with Microsoft but not change the MX record? I presume then email will continue to work to on-premises fine. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi We have a message on Exchange 2010 from an external person that never got to its recipient on our exchange server. When you look in the Exchange Troubleshooting Assitant the message shows. Its not in our spam filter and neither is it in the clients junk file. Is there anyway to find out why it didn't get there ? Thanks

Hi I'm looking at how our printers are published on the network and who gets what printer. When I've been using GPO Preferences I noticed that some printers are not available to publish. On a client machine if you go to add a network printer only the printers that are shared on local machines are shown. The ones shared on the server are not listed, despite them been listed in the directory. I can press next and browse to \\servername and it lists all the printers no problem. In order to publish them via GPO they need to be listed but I can't make the GPO at present as there not available to be added to active directory. Any thoughts please ?

Morning, We have an edge server (running forefront) that controls all mail traffic and points it to the exchange server. During the day between 6am and 6pm it works fine. On a night time there is issues where people can't access there email on phone or via OWA. On the edge server, the event logs says 28/04/2015 19:17:39 DNS Client Events 1014 None "Name resolution for the name xxxxxx.local times out after none of the local DNS Servers responeded. Both our DC's show no warnings at that time. I've turned off energy efficient on the network card but still does it. Might have to stay at work one night to see what happens. Any thoughts ? Thanks

Forgot to say -- windows test page prints fine so toners are working

Hi, Got a HP Multifunction printer attached via USB to a Windows 8 machine. I've installed all software from disk. Printed fine for ages. Now when you print from word etc it prints blank pages. I've re-installed printer and driver but still the same. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, We have a huge box of empty toners -- re manufactured mainly. I'm looking for a company that will come and collect -- and provide bags / boxes. Our box is ripped and too big to post really. Not fussed for any money back - they will just end up in the bin if I can't find anyone. Thanks

We use full papercut MFD. Don't use it for credits though. Staff just started at 0 so whatever minus figure they are at is what they have used. Our sharp copier has a swipe card on it and staff print but it only comes out when they swipe there card. Only software issue we have had is that students log in as other students and transfer credits away !! I've since disabled the transfer option

We have an outreach office. All the machines are connected to a router and connect back to main office by directaccess (for once this isn't the issue) We have a shared printer connected via usb to one of the machines. When I've added it on other machines it asks for admin password to connect to \\machine I add the printer and it works fine but following day it needs printer deleting, re-entering admin detail when connecting to \\machine and adding printer again, this is dispite ticking the box that says remember my credentials. Any ideas please? I'm going to run more network points anyway so it can be networked properly. Thanks

It doesn't look like its picking an IP Address up from the router
-
Its a static on the internal but DHCP on the external. @win I'll give them a go -- not used a crossover cable on the others though and it works ? I've used the same cable as I did on the others.

Hi We have a Firewall server with 2 network cards in -- 1 internal 1 external Its been plugged into a plusnet router and it picks up and IP and works fine. I've changed it into a virgin router but it just says "No network access". The superhub works with other dhcp clients like laptops and other servers. Any thoughts please? I'm thinking some compatibility issue between superhub and the network card. I've tried a 2nd network card -- it does the same -- i'm tempted to try an Intel one as apposed to a cheap one.

Bit of progress Directaccess server gets this error: If I browse for the file its not there Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy Date: 09/03/2015 14:47:00 Event ID: 1058 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: User: SYSTEM Computer: DirectAccess.stbede.local Description: The processing of Group Policy failed. Hi Does anyone have an idea about the error in the image? Directaccess works fine - people are connected but since a restart of the server I can't get on the console. The only thing that has changed is that I have managed to get the domain controllers netlogon folder to start replicating -- it wasn't. My theory is that now they are replicating it has messed up the direct access policy? Don't particularly want to re-install direct access and go round to all the machines with it on. Like I say they are working I just like to check the console. Thanks

karldenton replied to karldenton's topic in Windows Server 2012

Upgrade 2008 to 2012 Server Running Exchange
karldenton replied to karldenton's topic in Windows Server 2012
Thanks for the advice everyone. Definitely won't start that ! We are moving virtual over the next few months anyway so I'll get an extra one for mail I think. How much roughly is office 365 for around 200 mailboxes ? -
Hi I am looking at upgrading our physical exchange server from 2008r2 to 2012r2 I will later upgrade exchange to 2013 Can I just put the 2012 disk in and upgrade it or would it cause issues with exchange/certificates etc ? I'll unmount the mailbox first so people are not writing to it. Thanks
