    Big thumbs up for papercut from me. You pay based on the number of AD users who will use the system. Having managed print also means you are cutting down on wastage (eco friendly) and also protecting data (as users have to physically release the job). So that helps a school be compliant in those areas.

    Testing now with this reply. If I don't say "it worked" because I couldn't edit this post then you'll know we still have an issue. This occurs on multiple computers for me. Ahha! I have the SAVE CHANGES and PREVIEW CHANGES buttons now... Woohoo it worked!

    Definitely domain joined. They can log in "offline" at home with auo sync to the hard disk encrypted with bitlocker. But when in the building the laptop will get the same benefits as any other computer on the network in terms of package deployment, group policy, updates, printer mappings, AV protection etc.

    We have a fleet of ipads here and the children use them for all sorts of lessons just taking them and putting them back. I want to ensure that there is a way that children can move files between the ipads and their user area with as little fuss as possible. The staff here use Gmail as part of Gsuite for Education. Has anyone else successfully integrated Google drive in AD and got it to work well on the ipads so students can sync their work?

    Anyone use the Visitor and Staff management software from SGWorld? I would like to configure with the server settings and deploy the VisIT Two software to the admin client computers. But the company seems to say this is not possible. its as if they want to retain control of installing the software so we have to pay them. Not ideal!

    Hi does anyone else have these D3565 Sensors? They seem old and I think id can bin them as no one seems to know what they work with. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the kit they work for? Thanks

    Hi Matt, I don't know why I didn't think of that!!! I'll give it a go! Windows found its IP address as a web service direct to the printer but it didn't seem to like installing that.

    I have a set of workgroup computers that I am not allowed to connect to a domain. On the domain controller I have a IP connected ethernet printer which is not wireless compatible but is mapped to all the domain clients. I can browse to type in a password and connect this printer to the workgroup clients but it does not stay after reboot. Please can you advise me what I need to do to lift the security to enable this to work. Thanks

    Hi I think it could be the filtering system. Medway Council are reporting slow internet but fast speedtest results. They believe there is an issue with their filtering system. Ill check the DNS. We have two domains here. Admin and Curriculum. I want to crap the admin soon creating a SIMS member server on the curriculum network.

    I have staff here struggling to load web pages on their computers. The busy ring spins in the tab even when a page seems okay. Other pages take ages to load. Thought it was a chrome issue but its affecting all browsers and multiple computers. PINGS to the Internet are okay, SpeedTest.net shows a normal connection. I cannot see much in the windows event logs to suggest any issues. Login speeds and drive mappings seem okay. I'm at a loss now what to do next? Can anyone help? I have spotted on my wireless computer these events in the logs: DNS 1014 and DNS 8015. But I don't see these on the wired computers so I'm not sure if its a related issue.

    Hi all, I have a MacBook pro here with Apple Configurator. The school seems to use it to manage their fleet of pupil and staff ipads. We must have about 60 odd here. I gather that with Apple Configurator its based on imaging the tablets and they have to be plugged in and on to get the image. I was used to app deployment where I worked before through Meraki. I didn't have collect them all in to push the odd app out and it was full of asset and location features that this software doesn't appear to have. Also I believe the security might be better (e.g. stopping people adding wallpaper off the Internet). Any thoughts on what I should do would be great.

    That program was looking really promising! Only problem is it gives a message at the start and then that's it. Subsequent notifications are audible only and I cannot the sure that the sound will be on and really need messages rather than sounds.

    Does anyone know of a good program that can be configured and deployed that gives regular notifications on low battery. Windows doesn't seem good enough to alert our children here.

    JRowley as we are a primary school with very young children we have it so that the teacher/TA can print work the children in that year group have sent to the printer. Therefore the user doesn't just print what they wanted but also what they didn't want, what was sent in error, what's no longer needed, what the child sent in error, what the child wasn't allowed to print... etc, etc.

    This would reduce wastage as clicking print all would print the teachers but not the students.

    Hi Matthew, How I had it set up at my last job and how I was planning on having it here was that each year group teacher was a print release user for that year groups students. e.g. Johnny's work would show up in his teachers queue so she could print it for him. Having students work separate from the teachers sounds interesting. How did you configure that? I did ecudate the teachers but they didn't listen. Its all too habitual to click Print All when they are in a rush and the majority of the time they want most of what they have sent anyway. Schools seem to prefer to monitor rather than physically restrict with real money. That's why I'm keen to physically prevent these issues rather than hoping teachers will not get into bad habits.

    Hi TechMonkey. I will consider dropping the expiry on jobs. the problem is some staff printed from home via email and didn't like jobs expiring before Monday when they came back. As we are a primary school we need the younger children to get their jobs released by the teachers. Only the older children can cope with passwords at the machine. We will be getting Sharp so hopefully they will be quite compatible.

    Hi, we are looking at getting PaperCut soon and the last time I used it, it had an annoying PRINT ALL button on the photocopier interface that staff would press to release all the jobs queued at the machine (both theirs and the students regardless of who's they were or if they were needed). This created so much wastage and defeated the whole point of having PaperCut at all. Has this feature now been either turned off or customisable? I know you could disable it on the Release Stations but this need to be done in the back end or advanced options on the firmware interface on the copiers. Thanks, Jason

    Hi all, probably missing something obvious but I have created a new GPO for custom computer settings belonging to the school. But when I test it out on a client with GP Results wizard its not applying the settings to the computers. It's not applied. It's not denied either! I have do the following... Linked it to Workstations OU that contains sub OUs with client computers its showing as last in the link order. No WMI filtering (none) Authenticated Users (is this correct)?

    Don't have it here and I miss it. The later versions were very customisable and the technical support was great. The company went through a bad patch during the recession but always maintained a good support team and customer service with our schools. When I left I had almost completely moved the school over to Windows 10.
