Search for a MAC address in DHCP?
ReverentCreature replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Windows Server 2012
That's brilliant. I was able to find it and remove it from the Address Leases screen. -
I have a client that I need to add a IP Reservation for. When I try and add it in, DHCP says it cannot add it as the MAC address has ben added in already. The thing is... MAC addresses are not listed, only names so I don't know which one I need to delete. The computer has been rebuilt and renamed. How can I track down this MAC address so I can remove it for re-adding? Thanks

Hi I am getting c00000005 BSOD error on a Windows 7 laptop. The user claims it happens randomly when she uses different applications, normally one or two hours into using the computer. I haven't been able to narrow it down to a particular application. I could rebuild the computer but I'm not sure if that would resolve the issue. Articles online suggest a virus used to cause this some years back on XP but this is Windows 7. Has anyone else encountered this?

iPads not showing Photocopiers
ReverentCreature replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Turns out that there is another server here running Ubuntu and it contains a VirtualBox Windows Machine that's acting as a print server. The three photocopiers seem to be here as well. There was an Airprint error onscreen. I rebooted the virtual machine and the photocopiers are now showing back up on the iPads. If anyone knows how or why it would have been set up this way it would be much appreciated! -
Freezing on splash logo even on PXE
ReverentCreature replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Windows 7
I tested without the USB devices connected (including mouse and keyboard). It booted up okay. Reconnected them. It booted up okay. Reconnected everything including the Startech KVM (VGA/USB) and now its booting up okay. At a total loss now as to what the problem is. Will keep and eye on it. -

PXE freezes on Windows logo/splash screen when hard drive disconnected and booting to PXE. What would this mean? -
Freezing on splash logo even on PXE
ReverentCreature replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Windows 7
It stops on amdkmpfd.sys. I believe this is graphics related The computer is connected to a startech KVM so maybe that needs a new driver. -
Hi I have a Windows 7 client that freezes on startup. It freezes even if booting in safe mode. Startup repair has not found anything. Tried a PXE build using WDS and it still froze in the same place. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

iPads not showing Photocopiers
ReverentCreature replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Cant see Bonjour in web interface anywhere but there is a setting called Apple Talk which is disabled. Was told it was okay at the beginning of the week. No one would have gone in and turned anything off. They wouldn't know how to. -
iPads not showing Photocopiers
ReverentCreature replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Hi Caffrey, The photocopiers are x.x.10.x and the ipads are x.x.0.x So different numbering system. Both the photocopiers and the ipads have the same subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 -
iPads not showing Photocopiers
ReverentCreature replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Its iOS 10.1.1 on the ones that I am looking at. Cant see any Airprint functionality in the web interface. Just contacted out photocopier provider and their Canon print app detects and prints to the copiers just fine. So its very odd that the iOS has suddenly stopped finding and printing to the copiers. through the Share > Print route. -
We have a selection of staff and pupil ipads here which normally list the school photocopiers from the Share > Print button. Now for some reason they are not showing the photocopiers when it finds and displays the list. I have checked elsewhere and the computers can print fine to them. Im not sure where to go from here as only just started in this school and not familiar with ipad configuration in this type of setup.

Another Thumbs up for Ruckus. No RADIUS. Just a simple link to AD for BYOD staff access. Guests go to the office to get a time limited token.

The TA and myself check that the laptop trolley is locked when not in use. Sometimes they forget but overall its secure. Teachers have their own laptops which they sign for so they can take them home. Teachers know that the laptops in the trolleys are for the children so they don't take them home. The laptops are labelled - as is the trolley so everyone knows that they belong there. We rarely have any laptops in a different building. If one goes AWOL I just ask all six teachers and they soon say, "on its in my cupboard we were using it yesterday, sorry".

Primary school here with a rota on the wall by each trolley. TA's get children to take and return the laptops or the wheel the trolley into the classroom. All teachers are told to remind the children to charge the laptops and shut them down etc. One TA is assigned to each trolley to check that its tidy and all laptops are connected. When the whole trolley is not booked, they might take one or two for working on in the corridor for a 1:1 session

Endpoint Security - alternatives to DeviceLock
ReverentCreature replied to ReverentCreature's topic in How do you do....it?
That sounds like a good solution. Our staff currently use Integral Crypto memory sticks. What about cameras? Staff take a lot of photos on cameras and connect up their USB leads to get the photos off. Again we whitelist ours and block others. Which goes for USB flip video cameras USB microphones etc... -
Its Smart all the way here. We recently got some Clevertouch TV screens but the staff hated Lynx. Ended up putting Smart Notebook everywhere and going down the route of Phillips TV screens for the classrooms (the license for Notebook allows the software to be run on third party boards).

Its brilliant. It works great. We have PaperCut MF here as we have the papercut firmware installed on our Sharp photocopiers. Some of the things we have done: Scheduled import of user groups from the server. Groups we already use such as "Teaching Staff" and "Year 6". Setting up of filters for the machines such as no print jobs over 100 pages and no print jobs over £5. Custom user messages - balloon taskbar notifications using supplied MSI package deployed to the computers. Linking of papercut to e-mail so users can send print jobs as a PDF attachment to a generic email account. Group reports showing usage for each group (department) for billing. We do not assign credit balance to users. Easy disabling of student users disallowed printing rights. One virtual print queue that everyone prints to. Work can then be released from any printer or photocopier that nearby or working. Use of our door entry cards so when users swipe a photocopier they get asked to enter their windows login to associate the card. Allowed or blocked certain year groups of children from logging on to the photocopiers. Linking staff users to year groups of children so a teacher can release print jobs for their year group as well as their own work. Installation of client software on third party machines in BYOD scenario.

Hmm not I don't think so. The Microsoft Office icons for definite were from a folder that the users get. We tested and they show up just fine for the affected users.

Probably a simple permissions thing but..
ReverentCreature replied to mikeprice's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I believe if you choose the folder containing the individual named folders you can go to: Properties > Security tab > Advanced... > Change Permissions > (Choose the group containing the students) > Edit... You can then give modify rights to Subfolders and files only using the "Apply To" box. In the long term why not do what we do here. Bulk create the logins. Get children to log in with the number that's on the logon screen. For example if the computer they are sitting at is "IT01" get them to log in as "Red01" if they are in Red class, with the password "red". The advantage is that the children know their number, and go to the same computer and so always have the same home folder. -
Ive made slight progress. The XML layout is being applied but it seems to be an issue with shortcut delivery. I am testing with a basic layout for the moment. Users are getting the apps but not the exe shortcuts.
-
Still cant get it to work here at all. Can you elaborate on what you mean by permissions? Which GPO are you using? We are using Windows 10 Education version which should also support this.

I gave it a go and its not working for me either. I'm seeing the windows app tiles such as Photos and Maps and none of the tiles I added. I'm glad its not just me who's having issues. Thanks for all the advice. No wonder RM haven't said anything about it yet. They must be pulling their hair out trying to get it to work too.
