Hi ya, On Windows 10 here and moved this Machine to an OU that has software assigned. A GP Result shows that the group policies will apply to the computer. But despite several reboots the policies do not go on. The software does not install. Am I missing something obvious? Other computers in the OU seem to have the software. Would it be because the wifi connection doesn't kick in till the computer is on the logon screen?

My config file sits in a share on the server. \\servername\pcclient\win You could make the change there. It depends how your papercut client notification app is run or deployed.

Has anyone had this issue whereby text from dialogue boxes settings and webpages is blank? I have tried reinstalling the software and cleaning the user account but to no avail

We have noticed that new phones and tablets are losing their 3.5mm audio port which will become an issue for us as we need those connections for our school sound system. How do we get around this? Are you buying adaptors or is is not possible to do so? Also Do we need different adaptors for iphones and android phones?

I am testing OneDrive which runs in the taskbar tray and is configured through group policy. Is it possible to set the OneDrive folder to be the root of the home folders? So in our case that would be drive (N: ) which will encompass Desktop, Documents, Pictures etc... We want to get all staff using Onedrive and don't want some work scattered on Office 365 and other files scattered on the server. It would be good to have them one and the same. "Set up protection of important folders" feature in OneDrive only work if they path to the (C: ) drive which doesn't happen on a domain like ours. TIA

Whne it comes to Internet safety you can find out who came across an inappropriate website accidentally or who went on a dodgy website deliberately as you have the login details for that user on a Windows computer. But when it comes to iPads, this is not the case. What do you do to get round this issue? How do you track who last used shared class ipads?

Thanks Glenn, What about then moving files to that location in the scheduled task. Because the computer/user account would not have access to that folder would they. Is the only option as this is not on the domain to make the share available to "Everyone"?

Hi is it possible to grant permissions to a computer account or user on the laptop to a shared shared folder on a domain server? I have a robocopy batch file on a standalone laptop with CCTV and door software on it. It needs to copy the database files to the admin server so they get backed up. With it being standalone how can I grant permissions so that it can access the folder and run?

Sorry i did a search but didn't find an awful lot to refer to. So so long as we get them to sign to say they will follow the rules that covers us as we are only giving them access to the data (as best as possible) that they need as part of their responsibilities?

We have some contracted agency TA's and teachers here. Up until now they get a restricted desktop with no staff shared area. Now I have been asked to give them an email account so that would give them access to all of Office 365. And what about other websites? Do you get them to sign an agreement? What does it say? What do you do?

Hi all, In our NAACE IT Mark it says: "Regular monitoring and evaluation of the use of ICT resources within and beyond the school are comprehensive and influence ICT strategy and future produrement" Anyone doing this? Hi all. What do people use these days to burn videos to DVDs that are playable. We want to give all parents our year 6 performance and I have managed to get a good test recording on one of our iPads. I can convert this MOV file into most formats using Format Factory. But its getting this file onto a DVD that will play in as many TVs as possible. What do you use? We have limited time to purchase any software really. So free would be good if possible.

Do you guys leave photocopiers on all the time even when they aren't in use or do you let them go to sleep after a short time so staff have to wake them up to use them? We have Sharp photocopiers here. Whats worse for the environment? Staying on all the time or waking up from sleep?

On a network with no WSUS there any way I can scan from the server to pick up computers that are not on Win10 Version 1803? I just wanna get an idea how up-to-date all the laptops are.

On a 2016 server that I manage I have some generic accounts and have been asked to purge the home folders via script when users are logged off for data protection reasons. a message comes up at logon warning users not to save anything to home folders after log off because of this. The issue I have is that as an administrator on the server I do not have permissions to look in those redirected home folders. It says in order to do so I need to take ownership of each folder. I have found this issue mentioned here for server 2000 and 2003. Is this article still valid? Supply teachers log in as "supply" which is permitted to be used on a couple of machines at any one time. Work experience students log in as "visitor". Both accounts have staff Internet filtering but are blocked from accessing the staff shared area, SIMS or target tracker. Teachers are reminded to put planning under the children's shared area in the relevant subject folder so these users can access them.

Linux newbie here. Very new to it all. Got a server I need to look after that has Ubuntu and Virtualbox on it. I'd like to back up the virtual Machines in VirtualBox. Whats better cloning or snapshots? Once I have made the copy what's the best way of getting them safely off the computer and how do I go about it? Thanks in advance.

The IT guy before me set up Screenly on a raspberry Pi. I'm pretty sure its free. No idea how it all integrates but it seems to work well. If anyone knows if any instructions regarding the setup it would be much appreciated. It works well for is I'd just panic if it went down. Somehow it has a static IP and I can log into it from a browser.

Well we are getting another batch of ipads. We will soon have 80 to try and maintain using Lightspeed. They are great but I'm not sure that we need that many but the others insist that we have lots. Soon I will have to replace some of our touch screen boards. I'm open for ideas as to where to take the school next. I still feel its important to have a dedicated suite with desktop computers that are on and ready to use. SFFs with decent SSDs will be best I think.
