Hi all, Is it possible to have a fixed tile layout deployed to all users? I know through Group Policy you could path users to a network shared that contained the XML file. Is this still the case? Does one XML do Windows 8.1 and Windows 10? thanks. We have one set for Windows 8.1 but its having no effect on our Windows 10 computers.

Oh krikey that was ages ago! I think in the end it turned out to be some software using the same port. We changed either PaperCuts port or DeviceLocks port so they weren't clashing.

X and Z are reserved for Virtual CDs if you use that software to run multimedia CD/DVD titles. e.g An encyclopaedia title with three disks.

So I could create some sort of batch file that copies it to each folder from a shared location...

I decided to ditch the MST file method. I have managed to deploy it successfully with the help of an extracting EXE created through 7zip (RM's Advice). You need to zip the Gallery Essentials and Lesson Activity Toolkit into one EXE. You don't need 7zip deployed to clients. It works by itself. You only need to install it once to make the archive. Hi, apologies if this has already been asked before but how do you customise and deploy the Quick Letter template for all users across the network? We don't just want one user to edit them template for themselves. We want the schools header logo, etc on every Quick Letter template on every machine (or ideally just one in a shared location). Has anyone packaged Notebook 15 and can help? I'm struggling to link the gallery content. Using the SMART Install Manager I have set in the MST file the following: Choose how people have access to the gallery? : "Installed on each computer" How will the gallery be found at runtime? : "Same folder as the installer itself" (SCCM recommended) Where should the install package put the Gallery? : "In the default location" (C:\ProgramData\SMART Technologies) So imported into the RM Management Coinsole is as follows: D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\Repoman\filestore1\c95c08d380224be196864278494daa89 Contains the MSI / MST / INI Contains the folder structure SMART Essentials for Educators\Gallery Data Files I unzipped the gallery and extracted it to that folder from the gallery link on the SMART website under the V15 MSI download. We have Server 2008 R2 and some Windows 8.1 clients. I believe we may be missing one or two Group Policy settings from looking at some articles online however I have yet to find any way to update the GPMC. However the clients seem okay so far connecting online and to printers and drives and the server is up-to-date with Windows Updates. However the keyboard language is US and not UK. How can I set the language in group policy to UK?

What do you all use for cropping photos easily. (e.g. 4:3) and doing things like brightness and contrast? We used to use Microsoft Office Picture Manager but that was lost when we updated to Microsoft Office 2013 I deployed Live Photo Gallery a few years back but that now crashes on Win7 SP1 and Win8.1.

In an effort to improve experiences for students, slow logon times, wifi speeds, corrupt accounts... it has been suggested that we ditch roaming profiles for all users. Has anyone done this on RM CC4? What are the repercussions of doing away with roaming profiles? Some have suggested that roaming profiles are a bit outdated now as most stuff is done online. I don't want to go off on a tangent. Is it easy enough to do on CC4? It would be good to test with some accounts first.

Is anyone out there using CleverLynx on a CleverTouch screen? If so how can our teacher set a new default colour for their boards? The program always starts up white. The teachers have said that its possible on Smart Notebook. We need the background colour to be a light blue. Its better for dyslexic students apparently.

Hi Jamman, That sounds really good. By "profile manager" do you mean configuring the iPad settings in iPhone Configurator software and then deploying that profile through Meraki to each iPad? Or do you mean something different? Thanks.

Hi there. Is anyone in North Kent using Meraki or similar MDM with Android or iPad tablets that would be willing to show off their solution? From my initial researching it seems to be that iPads are easier to manage and lock down. Which will be good if we want to send out our own software to them, keep them standardised and operational. Android tablets are cheaper but we need to make sure we get a good spec. These are more likely to have bespoke solutions built into them. Any advice welcome.

We pay £1,700 a year for primary support. Its well worth it.

I would be interested in this too as we are also considering Tesco Hudls. I believe the Hudle 2 is Android 4.2.4 (Kitkat) so in theory, yes. Though if the performance of these tablets will be good enough in the long term. Also, the iPads seem to have a lot more security and less to customise that could disrupt a lesson.

Teachers here would like to be able to take my ink and top of the printers themselves after I go home and before I get to work in the mornings if a printer runs out of ink. Do any of you allow this? If so how do you ensure that you can continue to maintain an accurate account of the stock you have? Does it work or does it go wrong?

I queried this with them as the last one I had from them was in April. We are getting the same issue here.

Hi Dan, Just to clarify, with CC4 builds you have to make sure that you import the correct driver into the RMMC. Make sure that the drivers are assigned to both Windows PE (for the build process and Windows 7 for the final operating system on the computer. Windows PE 3.1 is for Win7 and WinPE 4.0 is for Win8. Once you have imported the driver assigning I to the correct OS's you will then be able to add them to the build disk of your choice. They wont show up unless you have done the above first. This info is only for network drivers. USB drivers only need to be added to the drivers list, not to the build disk.

I have managed to find out the IP address of the SIP server. It seems that their VOIP system is with a third party so it should be just a matter of our LEA opening up the ports. I have been gien the details and some of it was as you suspected. Port 5060 & 5061 and so on.

I see. Yes that does sound logical but never done it and not too confident about doing all of that to be honest. I'll speak with them about it as we did give them one of our phones on our network but they bought one of theirs with them too.

We just have a basic LAN here and our network is RM CC4. We have a good broadband connection through EIS Kent so that should be okay. I'll look into what ports are required. We have no connection in any way with the Academy that these staff have arrived from.

Hi all, we have recently become and academy and a load of staff have moved in to our building and bought a Cisco VOIP phone with them. Now I'm sure its not as simple as plugging their phone into an Ethernet socket on our network and away we go. But I'm not up on VOIP and I'm not sure where to start. Can anyone guide me in the right direction? Thanks

I take it your LEA cant do it. Whos is your broadband with? It will work out more cost effective to use your LEA if you can. Or the academies solution if you are an academy.

Don't forget a disaster recovery policy! Ours highlights what the threats are to the network (staff/terrorism/acts of god), how we protect against those threats (locking server room, backups, security n the computers, UPS's), and what we will do if the network goes down. With regard to data protection, consider endpoint security. Here we use DeviceLock as it whitelists our school USB devices and blocks all personal mobile phones, memory sticks, cameras... We had to consider that not all students have permission to be photographed. So we don't want photos of children getting taken home onto staffs personal computers accidentally. Also personal memory sticks often aren't encrypted.
