  1. Apologies...I may have been typing historically, then! Any job has the potential to be like a factory hen.....But we don't all choose that way out. As has been stated before, in another thread on the same lines, the suicide rate is not that different to ours, so why all the fuss? Is it because that's where they make iPhones? Well, simple answer....stop buying Apple products!
  2. Ok then, how about Israel, or Romania or Greece? I do have experience of working in different countries and with different cultures and the question still remains.... How does anyone else "cope" with "the despair of living and working under the same complex and being little more than a factory hen." People do, in every country and every culture, from the sweatshops of SE Asia, to the coal mines of NE England.
  3. Hmmmm....Be interested to know where you get your stats from, for chinese suicides. What you MEANT to say was IN THIS COUNTRY most folk, etc etc etc. And as for the despair of living and working in the same complex......How do the rest of us survive? I've spent nearly 2 years on the same campus....before that I spent 6 years in the same casino, being little more than a "factory hen", so I think your broad strokes of an argument should be taken with a pinch of salt?
  4. But who's to say that these 18 suicides are ALL to do with the work? What percentage are because Wai Ling, on the next machine, has fallen in love with Chen Leng, but he does not love her? Why is it assumed that these are ALL due to working conditions? The press can also be incredibly rubbish at that kind of background work!
  5. All well and good, but the income will be reduced because you wouldn't move back to your parents, and NOT pay some form of rent, would you? It's always too easy to see the parents as a fall back position, but they have bills to pay too!
  6. Morning all.... So, here goes.... I wanna spend up to £150 on a new phone. I'm not looking at spending more than that, cos, to be honest, I don't anticipate using it for much other than texts, calls and a spot of browsing, every now and again! Therefore.....What is, in your opinion, the best phone to go for? All thoughts are welcome!
  7. Hi Paul, I've just arranged for these guys to come..... Stone Group IT Recycling I had around 70+ PC's, 70+ monitors as well as switches, and printers. They took almost everything, for free. They provided an excellent service from start to finish. I would recommend them to anyone!
  8. I think that is a very easy view to take.....However, the idea of moving abroad is always a nice one, until you actually go. It will be slightly better for you, because your brother is already heading that way. Moving is not the all round panacea though, and as mentioned above, you'd do better holding onto the house, and having it rented out. You may find that that income is very important, 9 months down the line!
  9. Trick Hockey Shot by 9-Year-Old | Sports.Break.com Not a big fan of Ice Hockey, generally, but this IS impressive!
  10. Even though we have a campus with 500+ machines, I kinda made that decision as there was no guarantee that we could get MDT running how we wanted, before we needed to do large scale re-builds. WDS does a room of 20, at a time, and all we need to do is push the Sophos installer through SCE, and it's pretty much ready.
  11. I was kinda expecting Bill to pop up at some point with a picture of Steve Jobs yelling "My Dad's bigger than your Dad!" Is there any point in this? I think that Apple users and PC users will always have this argument. But, for my two-penneth.....Apple is all style over substance. I don't need a website to point that out to me. Neither do I need a website to tell me how great PC's are....cos the next time I see the BSoD, I'll just email it straight to Bill!!!! In much the same way as Betamax and VHS, this one will run and run.....but for a lot longer, as Apple have the capital to stay in the game, albeit fighting a very small corner.
  12. This is pretty much true for me. I've looked at MDT, but have had no problems with WDS, and making the builds do what we want. We have different builds for different uses, and these are shown through the WDS console. Therefore, I've kinda stepped away from MDT/SCCM for the moment.
  13. I think your first idea is best! As soon as it gets to this time of year, and all the staff and catering staff are on "part-time" hours....you soon learn the value of a kettle and toaster!!!
  14. To an extent, I would disagree with this part, and here's why............. Wherever you choose to go, you need to be getting yourself out there. One of the best ways is to be having a bite to eat in a bar. As people approach to chat, you can either allow them to sit with you, or explain that you're eating and like to do so alone. I'd guarantee that you'd find cheap food, good bars and lots of fun! However, I would also like to make it clear that this IS only MY opinion!!!
  15. I think it might also be worth looking at comparable-sized companies, and checking their suicide rates. The thing is.....although there is no condoning the conditions that these people work in, it is all too easy to be looking in from the outside, and decrying $300 a month as inhuman. However, if your cost of living is significantly cheaper than elsewhere, then it really doesn't matter how much you earn. I think this is probably being blown out of all proportion, imho.
  16. Stone Group IT Recycling Drop these guys a line......Am just in the process of getting them in, and they don't charge. Also, they do HD wipes for free. I think that the more we can get for free....the less is taken out of our budget, so it has to be worth investigating.
  17. I wasn't sure either....until I did it! I went out on a cruise excursion, and there was no looking back after that.....There was always something to do, and always people to meet up with in the evening. And don't forget....if you feel that you cannot do the meet and greet stuff...get into the welcome meeting....and take it from there! They may be as corny as life comes, but the welcome meeting lets you size up the place, and your fellow holidaymakers. Knowing what I know now.....I would advise anyone to do it....if only the once! Travelling alone means you never have to justify anything that you do.....and what happens in Ibiza/Majorca/Benidorm/etc etc, stays there!!! You are never at anyone's beck and call....you go where you want, drink and eat what you want, and spend your days' how YOU want! Be prepared to take a couple of books for poolside reading....but know that you won't get the chance to finish them
  18. Morning all, Just a quick (I hope!) question............. One of our technicians has set up a backup job on a 2003 R2 server, with 12.5. When the tape ejects, after the job, the job continues until the tape is taken out of the drive. Therefore, for a 2 hour job, it is showing 10 hours. Is there anyway to correct this, without re-doing the whole job? Thanks in advance! ASM
  19. Been on holiday, myself, for a week or so, so only just caught this thread.............. Way back in 1999, I broke up with a girlfriend and decided that I really could do with a week away. So, one night, I sat in front of the telly and called up teletext holidays. Got on the phone to a couple of the companys and booked myself a holiday. I said to them " I want beach, nightlife and SUN....though not particularly in that order!!". They sent me (4 hours later!!!) to an apartment in St Antonio in Ibiza. I travelled on my own, but within a few hours of landing, I had started to meet people, most of whom couldn't believe that I had done it on my own, and began to have a cracking holiday. Looking back, I was 30 at the time, and it was the best thing I could possibly have done, as it taught me about my own self-worth again. I would recommend it to anyone....but be prepared to go on excursions, and walk into bars and start chatting to others. Re-invent yourself as an outgoing, party animal, and you'll have a ball!!!
  20. Just came back from a weeks camping in Cornwall.... Site was Valley View, in Blackwater, just outside Truro..... Great, central site, with hook up, and easy access to all the beaches! Well worth going to , and we'll go there again next year!
  21. Good work, SteveT............. Now the whole department is messing with it....including the boss!!!
  22. Wanted : One Open-Topped Double-Decker Bus. Must be suitable for end-of-season Fantasy Football League Trophy Presentation. Please deliver to : aerospacemango :D:D:D:D
  23. I've heard that thieves broke into Gizmo2005 fantasy football Trophy Room, last night........... Police are looking for a man selling a roll of carpet!
  24. Same for me! As much as I liked XP, I changed to Vista almost as soon as that came out......then almost straight back again!!! Once I'd done some testing with W7, I found that I really enjoyed it....but still have only changed my work desktop to it in the last week or so. I won't be going back to XP now!
  25. I think i've got a couple down the back of the sofa!!! Surely, all you'd have to do is look in a drawer at home? (That's a serious question!!!) I reckon I may still have some from the late 90's in a drawer, if you're interested!
