Hi all, I've just re-built my WDServer, and when I try to start the deployment service, it comes up with an error. I've looked in the system log, and have the following ref code..... 4294966093 Have tried googling, but to no avail. Any ideas??? I had rebuilt it, out of boredom, and in readiness for a suspected influx of new machines. Any help gratefully received!

Usually I go for peanut butter, in white english muffins! However, last night, I made a job lot of egg mayo, so that's what I have today! (In white bread!).....Oh and a couple of sausage rolls too!

That is awesome! I looked for about a minute or so, then looked away..... Everything DOES look like it's underwater!

Welcome Paul, I was at the even grander/older age of 37 when I decided I needed a change of career. I've been in IT for just 18months, and it is definitely the best decision I made! It is NEVER too late to make the move. Go for it! I wish you well and hope to see you posting on here in the future!- 4,289 replies

aerospacemango replied to mattx's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things

What I've done is block off "D,E,F,G,H,I" drives from opening .exe files, so that Firefox Portable, or any other .exe cannot be run from a USB. I would imagine that putting C in there would stop that running from My Docs too?? Or have I got that wrong?????

My college bought in 100+ of the Vostro's last summer. The imaging of them was easy....however, as pointed out, the build quality seems to be lacking a little. Out of the 100+, we had about 5% with initial start-up failures. Some of these were HDD problems, some were motherboard. Almost a year in, and I still worry about the fragility of the keyboards (which tend to bend easily). Though I have to say that we have had less than 1% come back to us since the build went on. We started with a Vista Business build, and have progressed to a 7 build, which will be rolled out over the summer. This should be a way to keep them as fresh as possible. Hope this helps you make your mind up!

Moodle Login Problems
aerospacemango replied to aerospacemango's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Ok, so it looks like we've solved the issue! I checked the browser settings.....Internet options > Security > Local Intranet > Sites > Advanced. The site needed to be in there for it to go through properly. Once the wildcard for the domain was in place, no problems.....At least, not for now!!! -
Moodle Login Problems
aerospacemango replied to aerospacemango's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Hi Dan, This is through IE8. I've already done some testing to make sure it's not the proxy server, and am now going over Group Policy...............AGAIN!!!!! -
Hi all, Bit of a problem here with students logging into Moodle. We've had a proxy server go in, and all seems to be set up correctly. However, the problem is that when students go to the main login page, as soon as they've put their details in, the browser closes down. We've gone through all the proxy settings, group policy and browser settings, but as this is only happening intermittently, it's getting us a bit upset!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Gotta agree with you there, sippo. Much the same at my place.

Hi All, I thought I'd repost this question to a wider audience! My college is looking to push me through on the Network +, as I've already got the A+. They want to pay for the books and the exams, so I've been looking around the internet (amazon etc) for the relevant books. So, what did you use, and what did you find best? Did you use a web-based course? (I did for the A+, but we're looking to keep costs to a minimum....that'll be the budget then!!) Thanks for your input!

[joke] How really did for the Dragon?
aerospacemango replied to GrumbleDook's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
As far as I am aware..... I believe the Dragon had flown over from a mythical place, that was across a huge expanse of water. When it arrived, this mythical place sent loads of soldiers as re-enforcements for the Dragon. However, the soldiers got a bit confused about their objectives, and proceeded to bomb the Dragon out of existence. This helped the mighty St George, no end, and when the fighting was over, and the Dragon was slain, St George thanked them, and off they set to sail back home.....to that place that we now refer to as U.S.A. -
Laptop not booting from PXE
aerospacemango replied to Little-Miss's topic in Learning Network Manager
This may seem a bit simplistic, but............ Are you sure your image server is switched on? Our WDS sometimes gets a blue-screen, which we don't notice until we actually want to deploy an OS. or................ Check the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DHCP server of the non working PC if you still have a Windows install left on it, against the PXE boot of a working one. -
Students using translators as proxys?
aerospacemango replied to tommej's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Just seen this and it caused a minor panic, for me!!! Then, I looked at it closely on our systems (Sophos Web Filter) and realised that students can get as far as that point, but no further! -
Are you Certified? What IT Qualifications / Training Do You Have?
aerospacemango replied to tech_guy's topic in General Chat
Question for the floor..... What Network+ books would you recommend? My college is willing to buy them, and pay for the exams too.....sweet! -
how to Stream world cup in HD from Freesat?
aerospacemango replied to diagram's topic in Wireless Networks
ClickView - the digital video solution for schools We are having this installed in the next few weeks. Primarily as a teaching aid, for the schools and OU programming. Whether this will stream as HD, I don't know yet, but we will be able to stream the World Cup throughout the college. (If we so choose!) -
Are you Certified? What IT Qualifications / Training Do You Have?
aerospacemango replied to tech_guy's topic in General Chat
I took the CompTia A+ course 2 years ago, which led me into this career, as I was mainly self-taught up until that point. My next course will be the Network +. -
I installed at home............. Turned out to be a pretty pointless exercise, as it didn't tell me anything I didn't know already!

Yep, same problem here! And yet.....I'm pretty sure I am!!!!

New Edugeek Users - Introduce yourself here :)
aerospacemango replied to tarquel's topic in General Chat
Been a steep learning curve, that's for sure! Came into it whilst studying for CompTia A+, had an ICT Manager take a punt on me, and not looked back since! More questions............ Why is it my fault that you've forgotten your password, and are now locked out of the system? Have you ever heard of "Backup"? and......... When I turn down your request to release Facebook from the web filter, why do you continue to push the requests through? Do you think we'll change our minds? The best thing about working in this sector is the heavy use of sarcasm! "Yes, of course I will let you into ANY site you want!" Oh, and this is a pretty good approximation of how I look!!!- 4,289 replies

Changing Automated Messages in GPO
aerospacemango replied to aerospacemango's topic in Wireless Networks
Oh well....they'll just have to work it out for themselves! If Sophos Enterprise was a bit more reliable, I'd use that instead....then I could deffo put my own text in.
