In a little over 2 weeks time, me and the missu will take our son on holiday. We are having a week in Cornwall, in our tent, on a campsite. We do this because we cannot afford to go abroad, this year. We couldn't last year either. But we will in future, as things improve. We've been to Italy, all-inc and Cape Verde, all-inc as well as 3 weeks in Oz and NZ, but that was 3 years ago, at least! We love going abroad, but there are times when you need to be a bit clever, and look at what's happening. A week ANYWHERE that's not work is better than a week at work......And I LOVE my job!!!!

Bizarrely, I was working out of the country when Oasis first came out, so I missed the hype.....Then Mike Flowers did his cover, and I thought "What utter garbage....Surely the original must be ok?" Thus began my love of Oasis music! So, you could say that without that cover version, I may never have gone that way!

Gotta say, and this'll show my age..... Listening to that now, and it's not a patch on the original! BUT....that is ONLY in my opinion!!! It's like Dave Grohl has decided that everyone should play AS MUCH as possible......His drum riffs are a little too overpowering for the track. How many do you actually need to deal with? It should be pretty straight forward, and as on another thread, you should try to make it clear that when it comes to all things IT, your word is the law, as you can get it backed up by SMT. I know that tutors/teachers/lecturers like to think of the kit as their own, but it's your responsibility to make sure that the kit is usable, and they need to know that! If needs be, go to your SMT with a list of people that haven't done as you've asked. I'm guessing that in these "public sector cuts" times, staff will want to be seen as doing as they're asked.

Would all depend on their age (the laptops....Not the staff!!!). If they're fairly new, then it may be a case of just clearing out temp files, clearing unwanted profiles, and defragging. That tends to work for us. But, this summer, we are gonna go for a massive re-imaging process, for everything in the college!

I'm old enough to know better....But still don't! 41, and been doing this for 2 years.......... 18 years in casinos before that!

Coupes? Two-door screamers? And you say "Puma"? That would be akin to Coupe Lite! If you're talking proper coupes, then you have to look at a Ford Probe, VW Scirrocco, Vauxhall Calibra, MR2 (Does say " I'm a hairdresser though!) or any car of similar ilk is what you want to get! (But, that IS only the opinion of a 41 year old!!!) Depending on how old you are......You could go back to a decent 2.8i Capri, and go all retro on our a**!!!

Alternatively, you could ask if they'd like to play............. "IT Qualifications Poker" If they ask what that is, tell them..... You sit on opposite sides of the table, and your "hand" is the quals you have in line with the specific problem. I'm guessing that you'll only have to put down 1 "card" from your hand before they realise they're not qualified to make the decision!

Why not just say that they "don't have a choice"? The problem is that tutors/lecturers/teachers seem to think that once they've signed for it.....it's theirs! Remind them that that is not the case, and that when the repairs take place, you'll be having a close look at their HD too!!!!

Good point, and as we're in the middle of nowhere.....a fire could well be well ablaze before anyone calls it in. Hmmmmmm...We have "fire-proof" safes....Which appear to be very well insulted. *thinks* Maybe it's time to look at OUR procedures again!

We have 2 safes..... One in the office, which holds the tape stock, and another in a different building on the campus. The 2nd is used as storage for the latest backups, which are incremental, and permanent storage for the weekly FULL backup. This works well for us, as i cannot envisage a situation where both buildings would go up. (Not saying it ain't gonna happen....but it IS unlikely!)

I agree with most of that except the last part!! England WERE brilliant, until they started to throw their wickets away, like so much confetti! To give the Aussies a sniff of a win..........Well, we were lucky! However, a 3-0 series lead/win is good enough for me! Roll on the Winter, and those early morning drives to work, trying to catch 20 min of Ashes cricket on TMS!!!!

Since the inception of the Premier League, the majority of money generated in the English game has gone to a few clubs at the top. As these huge sums do not filter down, the gap is growing, to the detriment of the England National team. We have no players of sufficient quality to be signed by any clubs in the major European leagues. And any that are, are content to pick up their wages at Chelsea, ManU, Liverpool etc etc, knowing that they'll pick up a few medals, and look good. This is where the national side falls down. The most abject performances I've ever seen at a tournament from an England side. Even worse than the Euros of 88 & 92. However, I feel a small crumb of comfort in the fact that at least we GET to major championships.....which is more than can be said for some teams!!

FE College Don't know the exact number of staff and students, but i'd guess 500/2500 30-ish servers + another couple on VM. We host our own mail for students and staff, but are looking to farm that out over the summer. Various Moodle, admin servers, etc etc Looking to go down the virtual route over the next year or so....but then the budget kicked in, so that'll be stalled until we actually have a department budget again!!

I'm pretty certain we could get a huge consultancy firm going, with offices all over the country. Now, who's going to the bank for the business loan?
