Back to this issue. I have run sysprep on all but one of the laptops and they all have different SIDs but I am still having an issue with them displaying as one in WSUS. They seem to take turns in WSUS and the updates are slowly reaching each laptop but it is very odd. I have other windows 8.1 laptops that all work as expected but these new Samsungs just will not play ball. I am out of ideas.

Simulated theory is testable, this is one way Do we live in the Matrix? Scientists believe they may have answered the question - Telegraph but I have seen other ways in New Scientist about how it could be tested.

But it is statistically more likely than not, its just not testable with the tools and knowledge we have now. Example, the Earth is round, it is testable but that was not always the belief.

I would imagine something else is causing you an issue as I have the registry method being pushed out with GPP at all my schools and have never had an issue of the policy not applying. The fact it works if you do a gpupdate must mean something is not working as expected on the network. I would look for other errors in the logs.

It might not work like that. When I access our Google Apps for Education admin page the system lists how secure a password is with a colour, so if a user has used some of the recommended security settings in their password they will get an amber colour etc. I can then mail those users or click reset password.

Hi, Following on from another post about device security I have decided to lock things down a bit for our Google Apps users. We have some Android tablets that have been set up by me and handed out to the classes but also some staff access Gmail etc using their own phones or tablets. If a tablet or phone gets stolen I want to make sure we can block / remote wipe the device. On the device management page in GAFE there are two settings that could have knock on effects especially for personal devices. 1. General settings\Enforce policies on Android devices. 2. Advanced settings\Enable Device Activation. What effects would turning these on have with staff who are using their own devices. Why do you get a choice to enable device activation, surely they need to be activated to do number 1 (enforce policies) Any advice would be helpful.

This is a very handy post, although working in primary schools with very basic filtering etc makes BYOD much harder to implement. I have noticed remote wipe / policy pushing to devices in the Google apps for Education admin panel but have never played with it, something I will now rectify.

I have deployed Windows 8.1 touch laptops but nobody uses the Metro tiles and they all just use the standard desktop, which makes me think what is the point of a MS tablet using metro tiles. I could force it on them but if they want and prefer a standard desktop what's the point.

I thought that things like the store do not work on a domain due to the store needing a different login account to the standard domain accounts, is this true?

Just out of interest does your username@ have any capital letters. I had an odd issue with Google keep which gave me the same issue. It turned out I had used a capital letter for the user login details. I needed to change Tsmith@ to tsmith@.

If you have already run dcpromo you should already have DNS on the new server and it should already be populated.

If it was me I would keep things simple and use CloneZilla Clonezilla - About It is very very simple to setup, it can boot from USB and copy the pc image back to the USB and would do you computers in about 15-20 mins. The other option would be MS image captue
