  1. We had problems as well although it was from sometime in the moring before I arrived untill about 11.00am. Might inquire after those alternative proxy settings though, as that would be really handy.
  2. What was the solution as I have had this before?
  3. Funny this should crop up but had a similar problem although I can't remember which Sat Pro it was, only about 12-18months old. Reported as not loading, missing vital files etc although I only ever got it to start loading then auto reboot. Did the same as you and used the recover CD, restarted and hey presto, off it went blue screen and restart again, over and over. Passed it back to teacher (it was not a school laptop) and said its under warranty, I suggest you give them a ring. Not fixed but I do have other jobs. Aany way as far as I know its been picked up for repair. Wonder if its some hardware failure? Too coincidental?
  4. Yep. just started using it for basic chroma key as well. So far it seems OK. Will use MovieMaker for other editing. Just using this for chroma key as MovieMaker does not seem as flexible i.e. multi layer editing and chroma Key (plus its free )
  5. You can still have individual folders with group logins. We have redirected 'My Documents' and have a sub folder with Pupils and each pupils has their own folder in there. Works quite well. At another of my schools we go another way of having a separate mapped drive with Year group foldewrs and each child has a folder in the year group to store their work, and that seems to work quite well.
  6. Helps me out but not sure of the etiquette of it!
  7. Anyone got a copy of the script ClearPrintQueue.wsf? I think it was on a CD that came with a Microsoft administrator handbook. Have found references to it on the net but not the file itself. It allows you to delete all print jobs on specified computers which I want to do as a schedule at the end of each day to save me another job.
  8. Anyone used wwwprojectorpoint.co.uk before. Their prices look good but never having used them before looking for feedback. I'm interested in a Hitachi ED-EX30 and at £388 ex vat it is way cheaper than our normal supplier or...does anyone have others they could reccomend at a similar price?
  9. Better open my eyes a bit more, only got 12!
  10. Had a similar feeling the other day, had a monitor (lcd) that stopped working so swapped it out and put it in a cupboard. A week later I gave it one last try with a different power supply and hey presto like yours it worked! So I get another power supply ordered, it arrives, I fit it, monitor now dead as it was in the first place when I swapped it out! Suppose I now at least have a spear power supply for a similar monitor!
  11. We use them as well. Good service and had no problems with the toners so far.
  12. Looks like they have picked up on the postcode error as there is now an updated version ready for download (dated Oct 30th). Don't know why though but the instructions I was supplied with said to not select the option to create a desktop icon? Always worked in the past. Wonder how the post code error slipped though testing though?
  13. I just install this on specific Foundation teacher laptops as has been said before as that is all that is really needed. Been through the network issue before na dsame as others just gave up as its not worth the end hassle. If importing the data from Sims via CTF on all I have done so far even though the data looks to have been imported it has missed the post codes which may not seem like much but it will stop the end of yera assessments being uploaded as it will report and error (as I found out last year!) To get around this import the data via a csv file from Sims, and all the data gets imported OK.
  14. If you a search on here you will see some of us have already got fed up with this software. You're lucky to have MSI's as originally they had to be installed on each PC. I know thats not helping much with your problem but it may be that they are still an install on the server and install from each PC by using the client install exe run from the client? Just a stab in the dark which is what Abacus Evolve needs actually!
  15. Read many of the posts on here about woes of SP3 but most seem to relate to networks etc now its just appeared as an update on my home PC. Is it worth installing? and are there any perceivable benefits of putting it on?
  16. Just seen this, it has an adaptot that allows quite a few connections sata, ata etc. Could be usefull having them all in one place. Serial ATA to USB 2.0 Cable Adapter Anyone know what would be best to use if I wanted to fit a SATA drive in my PC that only has ATA\ide drives in. Don't want to use an external drive as above so would consider extra card or adaptor. Seen a few after searching the web but just after others suggestions.
  17. Whats the best way to set the wallpaper as looks like thats a good idea, different wallpaper for staff and pupils. Easy to see when the staff leave PC's logged on (which o course they don't!)
  18. eSongbirds! I recently had the fun job of installing that one around the school. I just made an msi for all the disks and then pushed it out. Didn't have the same trouble as you as we have other progs that require local admin rights to run Grrrr... Good to see that scripts as I may need something like that in the future.
  19. I've had problems with Infocus projectors in the past, some eventually losing the ability to project colours correctly, one blowing buld far to regular (although it now seems OK after a firmware upgrade) and one that has had a part of the lens\light system drop into the image which has not got to sent away for repair. Won't use them again but the newer ones may have improved. Bulb prices seemed to be high as well.
  20. We have started to use refil toner from Refill toner UK | Toner refill your empty laser printer cartridge | U Refill Toner Ltd. for our 2500n and so far the results have been very good. It was going to be 'archived' due to high print costs but is now back in service due to the low cost of refill tone available. Ours costs about £18 per colour and the instructions are excellent and the operation to refill the HP ones are clear and simple to do.
  21. Done the same at one of my primaries, but for the front entrance. Had an old laptop and got a wide screen monitor mounted on a wall brack and Bobs your uncle...or rather not if you want the laptop at the other side of the wall as you will probably have to drill a hole through the wall as I did and then make up a video cable by soldering on a new end once you have fed it through the wall. Soldering the new end on is not bad just a bit fiddly...then its Bobs your uncle. Been up and running the last couple of months now without a problem. They use Powerpoint to show the photos etc as all the kids can use it and allows them to be involved in creating the shows. If its just photos just use Window Picture and Fax viewer and set it to display a slide show. As it was a primary it had to be cheap and simple to work. No problems so far.
  22. Went in this moring and used the GPMC add inn and what a fantastic tool! Found the rouge scripts I was looking for no problem. Thanks to all who offered help. Disabled all the scripts it highlighted, logged on and hey presto strainght on the internet and browsing network resources fine..and no wscript.exe holding it all up. So in the end it seems like I had a couple of bad scripts for some reason (not changed them so will check whats happened) and thats what was causing wscript not to finish and clog each client pc up. So wscript wasn't the problem just and effect. Thanks to all, saved by the forum once again!
  23. Thanks I'll try that when I get in today.
  24. I'm at home now so can't look in to the reporting etc but would running GPRESULT on the client or on the server specifying the pc/user give me a result that says what scripts are trying to be run as I think that is what the problem is. The wscript.exe is a slight red herring I think. Two dos cmd boxes appear at logon telling me thay can't run with network UNC paths so I think the clients are trying to run two scripts from somewhere in their GP hence why I'm asking about gpresult but I can;t seem to find out which or where they are. Should I delete any local profiles first and try a gpupdate on the clients first to see if that makes any difference.
