Just a shot in the dark, but been asked to copy some video done at Christmas on the school video camera (Samsung VP-D15), installed the Samsung drivers and app from their site but can get video onto the PC but audio only plays back from the camera and does not seem to record with the video. It connects using a USB cable. Checked all the obvious things but can't seem to get audio. Should I see a specific audio driver in the list to select apart from the PC chipset or any other ideas. Not got any other cables to try apart from USB.

Has anyone had the dubious task of installing Provision Map Writer (for IEP's etc.) on a network. Its driving me mad at the moment. Had a problem when I installed it on first set of PC's a few months ago but eventually got it running (any users had to local admins) otherwise it just gave MS Access errors. Now I need to install it eslewhere and on the first PC I have set the security as before but now it will let me log in the software as a teacher and view the database on the network but when I log the software as the admin it just gives an error about "On Click expressions entered as the event property produced the following error: The OpenForm action was cancelled" !!!!! plus some info about error may be down to evaluation a macro etc. Admin login works OK on the original installed PC's! Sorted now, found out there is an update fixing a few of the bugs!

Already added tried adding the pupil group to the local administrators but still no go :-( Any other suggestions?

By default in the AD group policy pupil logons have access to the C: drive on local PC's blocked and for the vast majority this is OK, but found out now that some of the Foundation stage programs require access to it and either throw up script errors (macromedia) or don't show various sections of the software. The question is how do I allow just the foundations stage to access the C: drive. Can I do it by changing a setting in AD that will not affect other restriction? I know I could just set up another GP without drive restriction and add them to that If I was to set up another GP can I just copy the existing GP so that all other restrictions/settings are kept? What would you suggest? (As you can probably tell I'm still only on my L plates with AD

But then again Excel no matter how much we hate big Bill monopolising everything is what they will use out of school, so I try to get them used to it. Anyway, using Excel to produce graphs is just one ofthe things they should be doing to cover ICT objectives in Y5, so its cross curricular use and as you found, they like having all the options to play with.

Not sure if thisis the right forum section but here goes. The problem is not that I can;t get sound buit that it is indifferent. It was reported that a PC was not playing sound through the headphones but when new headphones were put on it was the same although there was sound it was just low but everything was turned up. Logged on as admin and lo and behold the sound on windows start was fine. After a bit of investigation it seems that its only certain sound files, namely espresso video sound and some mp3's (problem is its the ones created with audacity that are our radio show). I will play mp3's taken from a cd at a good volume but when playing other mp3's the sound is muffled and a lower volume. Anyone come across this effect before. This PC is one sent to a company to have imaged on to a new batch of PC's we have just bought and thay updated it apparently with the latest flash etc but also a 6in1 codec pack as I found out. Could this be just a wrong or missing codec and if so which one as not had the chance to test the new pc's yet and hope its not the same on them! Sorry its a long explanation but just wanted to give the full details to see if anyone can help. Thanks.

It may be a long (and I mean long!) shot but does anyone have a USB cable that has the normal USB end on one end and the following end on the other. Its tiny (4mm x 3mm). Its for a Digital Dream l'espit camera, not brilliant but just fits the bill for a small project. http://reviews.cnet.com/sc/30827105-2-60-0.gif Attachment is a (bad) photo on the port on the camera, not clear but there are no chamfers to the corners. Shame to get rid of it just because they lost the cable

Had Espresso in school, but they now don't subscribe to it as they found they didn't use it enough to warrant the cost so I now have an Equinet Cachepilot box lying around. Anyone think of any uses for it? Not filtering etc as that is already taken care of. Can it be used for network storage? and what is the hard disk inside it?

I agree, a very sad loss, was always very happy with service and contact, in fact just took delivery of 20 PC's. Paid a bit more for them because of past experience of service. Don't know how we are fixed for warranty, I presume that will still hold.

Don't bother, just found out what it was. Needed to change the Wordpress web page in the config to match the ip rather than localhost. Simple when you know!

Just started to set up an XP Pro PC with Wordpress. (Yes I know it may be better with Ubuntu etc but for ease I'm sticking with what I know and have to hand). Have set up Apache and MySql with Xampp, installed Wordpress and at this point all is fine browsing it from that local PC, all works etc. Just browsed it from another PC via the web browser and although it shows the front page it just looks text based, no graphics and clicking on links on that page just gives me Page not Found. This is a Blog I want to run just internal to the school on the school network. I am doing this the right way or what I I missing out. Must be the way Xampp is set up I presume?

Doncaster (South Yorkshire) is using Frog Teacher for both Primary and Secondary. Primary is not yet rolled out but Secondary is but how much its being used I don't know.

Device Manager -> USB Controllers -> USB Root Hub -> Properties -> Power Management Tab -> Untick the 'Allow Computer to Turn off this device to save power' Job Done! I know its not to do with Fujitsu PC's but the only other PC I had problems with a Smartboard was an RM EcoQuiet PC which refuses to boot with the SmartBoard plugged in. Its a known problem and requires you to change the USB Speed setting in the Bios to High Speed I think to allow it to boot. Works fine after that. Just thought it might help someone as we are talking SmartBoards and USB.

Yes I know it seems daft when its a desktop thats plugged in to the mains but I suppose its a catch all version for windows. Would have been better to have it turned of by default at install and only turn it on when yop initiate power saving generally i.e. when its installed on a laptop etc. First came across this a while ago when a teacher was complaining about having to shut down her laptop intermittently to re connect her printer to it. Turned usb power saving off and hey presto problem solved. Had it when connecting to a whiteboard before as well.

I know it may be a simple solution, but might it not be that the power saving for the USB in Device Manager needs turning off? I do this for any whiteboard PC and we are running all Fujitsu at one school even those mentioned I'm sure (not at work so can't check).

I presume you are suggesting NAS over USB is due to being able to locate the backup anywhere on the network rather than speed of data transfer etc? Alot of the NAS raid devices suggested so far are well out of budget range, which is why I found the WD raid device (although USB) might be suitable and cover most of our requirements (1TB Raid etc but no NAS) for a reasonable amount. At a push I could always plug the backup disk to another PC and share it out but not sure NTBackup will allow you to backup to a shared drive and if that would cause any problems with a restore should I need it. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Currently using NTBackup for software, is this considered OK? Again better option would need to be free :-) if at all possible and do the same function as NTBackup, i.e save all system settings not just data folders.

Suggestions to solve my problem then? Separate drives? Remeber that although backup is important as its a primary the budget is tight and not as big as colleges and secondaries. PS. If the whole school burnt down, not having a backup for the curriculum server (remember this does not include the sims, office data as that is looked after by others) would not be high on their list of priorities I would think.

Thanks, been looking around and found this WD My Book Mirror Edition 11 2TB Hard Drive Extern - Misco.co.uk About our price range (its for one of my primarys), not NAS though but at least it is 1TB and will Raid 1 for a bit of safety. Any thoughts?

Can anyone give a good reccomendation for a reasonable External USB hard drive to be used for backing up of the server and its data. Would need to be around 1TB for some future proofing, able to be formatted with NTFS and of course be a reasonable price i.e. its the wrong time of year for the old one to fail. Have an existing one but the HD is failing and its a bit small so maybe an option if cheaper to change the disk in the existing enclosure?

Would love to do that but as we are a primary it would just not work, the teachers\year groups don't have a budget as such to take it from therefore it would come back out of the ICT budget. Its usually a case of just fix and get on with it..if I can get the bits! Don't reallly want to buy a new keyboard for the sake of two function keys that are rarely used. Could end up being blue tacked back!
