We have had the Frog trainer leave and over the summer the Frog manager who was our contact has also left Frog. We have had issues as well but the fix for them does not seem to come that quickley at the moment.

I looked at these when I was interested in have a photo blown up to poster size. Seemed reasonable prices. Canvas prints from your digital photos and images. MyBigCanvas.co.uk Never used them yet though.

Maybe answering my own question here but would love to hear your views. If for some reason when I changed the settings on a computer last week when the profile was unlocked, could the location of the My Documents been captured into the default user profile that it was using, then when it was locked, and then accessed by another user, it copies the files across to the users redirected My Documents as it would copy a profile, so therefore to solve the problem I need to really recreate the Default User Profile that they all access. No problem with the FS user logging on when the home folder exists as its copying it to itself and it already exists. Clutching at straws here but sounds plausable I suppose, what do you think?

Maybe my rambling wern't as detailed as they should have been sorry, but the home drive is their redirected My Documents. They click on My Documents they see the contents of their home folder on the server. Its this home (redirected folder) that is causing the problems or something else I think that is just copying this users particular folder everywhere if it exists! Don't think that ist the redirection that corrupt or wrong as its not been changed and other users with the same profile and policy are OK.

Right here goes, its the end of Friday and I now have found out why I had the above problem last week, it was that every file and folder in the foundation stages login home drive folder is being copied to whoever is logging on, their home drive folder and as they have lots of photographs it was taking ages!!!!! Only found out after I looked in my own folder and found their files in it. So I thought, OK I'll just copy them back...now I get the same problem, that the files get coped at every login! Whats going on? They all are using the same deault network profile.. could that be messed up and causing the problem or do I have something more sinister going on? Help very much appreciated. Unlocked and changed some setting on a computer last week and re locked the profile but why its copying the foundation folders I don't know? If I rename or delete the foundation Hme folder everyone can login OK. Just done a bit of additional testing and found if I create new foundation home folder "fs" and put a single file in it, when I log on as another class using the same default profile it copies the home folder contents to the users logging on home folder and deletes the original home "fs" folder! Only happening with the fondation stage folder "fs". What the heck is happening? Got Sophos on but nothing has been highlighted in the reports etc. Suppose I could always change the home drive setting in the user account to the original "fs" folder which I renamed "fs_temp" when I found out what was happening as its not the contents of the folder thats the problem, but thats a work around and not really a solution as to why. Can't see it being the Default Profile as all other users using it logon without any problems etc. no folders being copied etc, onlyu when I create the foundation folder "fs". I'm beginning to hate Friday, thats- two in a row now!

Its Ok now thanks, will run the batch and keep an eye on things.

Can't run the script again as its run at logon time and sets a scheduled task on the local PC. Will try the batch file though at least that will help track down the problem or at least highlight which ones are not obeying the task. Can't see why they report some are not though...hey ho... Just had a second thought....:-) as I'm not in every day, how can I feed the date to the filename that the list of PC's is being directed to? Come on it is Friday afetr all :-)

I have a shutdown routine sourced from these very forums and as far as I can tell it seems to work quite well, but of course it has just been reported that some PC's have not shut down at night (not that the staff should be doing this themselves anyway!). Went to the PC's and the scheduled task is there and when run, hey presto the PC warns the user then shuts down. Is there any way I can run a routine or script to give me a list of PC's that may have not shut down overnight as I'm not in the school every day and the teachers are in and turned on any PC before I start so makes it a bit more difficult to pinpoint what sgoing on.

Did have some problems before the summer but was only delayed on one about a week or so. It seemed to depend on what model and colour you ordered.

Not too sure about that, we have Frog and as yet they are still to sort out an automatic way to update pupil info on Frog from Sims. We are only in a pilot stage at the moment so the data was put on from a csv file. Seems that are in discussion as to the security of transfering pupil data.

Thanks, sticking with giving them a new profile etc so its less confussing when I come back to it 6 months later and wonder is happening!

Just had a reception teacher ask if she could have her class login changed from 'sapphire' to 'r1' for obvious reasons, namely the kids at that age find it difficult to type that amount of letter correctly. Whats the best way? I have created a new user with a new profile as I though this was the safest route etc but could I have just changed the login name in the AD properties of the original user, or would that have caused two many problems down the line?

Just jumping on this thread I know but do you know if these can be installed with XP Pro? Seen some SFF ones before but was told they could only be used with Vista.

new to rthis so "fog client"? I just booted of the network and let for do the rest, what the fog client and why? Newbie questions I'm afraid!

Just starting think of revisiting Fog now the dust is starting to settle after the schools have started back. How do most people use FOG? i.e if you use a separate PC for FOG do you let the main network server handle the DHCP or do you have FOG do it? Just thinking about it at the moment as currently I do imaging off the main network with a FOG pc handling the DHCP at the moment as I work in four schools and have just the one FOG PC. Would it be easy to set up the FOG PC for each network IP range or would that upset FOG and the os too much. Hope that makes some sense to someone!

That sound like its the bit I missed out, as its when the user is loading the profile I have problems now that I can browse the profile itself. I'll give it a go and update my"dummy's guide" to suit.

Sorry if this is a bit of a basic request but after this mornings little problems its an area I needed to revisit. I need to change permissions on a users profile as at the minute as an administrator I cannot view it or get in to change the ntusers.man to a dat. I have written down the instructions to follow from a previous attempt but after trying on a test profile I created although I can see the profile the user gets a permission error when trying to log on. The basic (yes very basic prompts!) I follow are below. Can anyone tell me what bit I have missed? Get properties on profile folder Security Click on Administrator - Advanced - Owner - Administrator (not administrators) Tick Replace Owner OK - Yes Apply - Exit properties Get properties on profile folder Security add "user" Full Control - Apply Advanced Permissions Select "user" Select Replace Permissions OK - Yes OK Got to be missing something somewhere, not a job I do very often thats why its written down but obviously missed something when I wrote it down!

Rebooted the server and all seems relatively OK and I can log on now with less HD activity on the server. Will soon hear I suppose if there are problems :-( Thanks for the advice, just needed somewhere to air my thoughts rather than screaming! While it rebooted I did remember that the only other thing I did was unlock the user profile all the classes use make a check a setting on a computer then shut down and lock the profile again. Maybe something got messed up when I did that? I may never know! If it was the profile that something has happen to cause the problem could I just restore the profile from backup (ntbackup) and overwrite the new one without causeing myself any grief etc. or will that just mess things up?

Just noticed that there seems to be alot more hard disk activity (lights flashing) on the server than I remember, so maybe a reboot will clear what it is?

Came in this morning and all seemed OK, now when I log on to a PC it just takes an absolute age to log on, it gets as far as "applying your personal settings", if it logs on all then seems OK? Nothing as far as I know has changed. Only thing that I have done today is to re-plug in a USB hard disk in to the server that we are using to back up on to (the backup is not running so thats not it). Any ideas verywelcome, will shut down and restart the server at 12 to see if that make a differnce in case something has got messed up some where but can't see what at the moment.

Just done that myself. Now got a 2.4Ghz Celeron, 200Gb HD with 1Gb of RAM...guess which box is going to be my new FOG server :-)

Whats the best (i.e. free) program to create animated gif's? Wouln normally create a flash file but the site the school are going to use does not as far as I can find out support to upload flash files.

Hi, I used a System Rescue CD that had Gparted on it (mainly because I used to use PartImage that was on the disk as well and image from a USB hard drive stored image). I just used that on each netbook before imaging it from FOG. Don't know if you can get FOG to auto delete existing partitions and set the drive to being bootable? If anyone knows if you could that would save be a bit of time for the next set I will need to do.

Now done 35 NC10's using FOG and all went on OK. Maybe not using FOG to its most efficient but only just started looking at it. Not even got it to change the PC name automatically yet as I didn't notice that option at first and imaging was the priority. Have not got FOG where I am at the moment so this is all from memory. Manually deleted the original partitions from the Samsung using Gparted and set the drive to being bootable (forgot that the first time and just deleted the partitions , so it imaged but would not boot!), In FOG I'm sure I had problems when I set the image to allow it to do a flexible image size, i.e. to fit any size drive, so had to do it as a single partition fixed size, No problems as they are all the same. After doing that all seemed to go fine. Hope that helps, but if not there are some more knowledgable people on here who use FOG more than me.
