Now I'm new to nix and only use it from a boot CD for imaging PC's, but how do I exit and powerdown nix correctly, instead of just exiting the desktop and just turning off the PC Thought I'd best learn how to do it correctly!

Having just installed Trucrypt and created the restore/rescue disk as per the instructions, is this a standard disk for all installations or do I have to burn a disk for each individual laptop?

Just started using TrueCrypt to secure staff laptops and wondered about encryption of memory sticks. Is it possible to encrypt a memory stick so it asks for a password when plugged in with TruCrypt? or does anyone do any 2Gb memory sticks that already have encryption software preinstalled ready to input a password, save me setting them up from scratch?

Yeah, tried turning it off etc and it made a blids bit of difference, even adding myself a local admin made no difference, however after a google I found a refference to a version of Adobe being an issue so upgraded to v9.2 and hey presto, it works now for anyone even if they can't see the drive. Just got to update the PC's with the new version now. Success on a Friday, a good start to the weekend! Better option than telling them the admin login which they requested...over my dead body!

Any deatils of how you go about that via GPO? otherwise I'll just go with the quick and easy script option, Thanks

Anyone come accross these? They are adobe documents that allow comments to be added to them, but only as an administrator! We have C: drive blocked off from all users and I think that is the problem as when I log in as a normal user it says that certain rights have been changed to allow special features i.e. tha adding of comments, but logging on locally to be able to see the c: drive as administrator the pdf's open up and give me the chance to add comments. Its not the location of the pdf's as I've checked th permissions I presume its the adobe because its on a restricted drive. Question: Any quick way to solve this? Question: Where is it set in GPO that the c drive is blocked off from users as this is the onle school I cover that has this option set and it causes me no end of problems (its primary schools so no real problems with kids messing about)

Whats the best way to add a registry entry i.e. via a .reg file to computers on the network via a script? Must be simple to do but all the answers I seem to find onthe net seem to involve complex scripts. Sure I've done this before but age prevents me remembering howor where!

Forgot about that, I do have my card linked to my PayPal so I suppose that would be belt and braces safest thing to do, invoice to PayPal and use the card to pay via PayPal. Not a technical problem but this forum sure gets me sorted out for most things! Be lost without it!

Leading on from the FreeviewHD thread my Dad has gone over to digital with a new Samsung TV but although he has had a new digital areal installed and aligned the best they can he still has poor signal reception especially in bad weather (delayed sound, picture breakup, no signal message etc). Any suggestions to the best (for him read cheapest as I've already tried with the 'just get the cheapest Sky option" suggestion) option. He's not bothered about having lots to watch just the basic channels as they only changed to digital because their existing TV was useless. Not sure what would be the best. He currently has a video player but I can swap that for a spare TopUp TV digital recorder I have if that helps any suggestions? Just as an afterthough is he likely to get a better reception/picture by using the TopUp TV recorders reciever than using the TV's own inbuilt reciever? Oh and no he's not going down the TopUp TV subscription route, that one mistake I won't make again!

I installed it last night, but although the program comes up and loads showing me what channels I can select or radio, there is no content listed when I select a channel etc, any ideas what may be wrong?

Right, and the next contestant is...The Philips BSure SV2 projector (and I'm sure a few other similar Philips models). Here's a simple strip down procedure with a few notes and photographs, unfortunately it was my first B.C.S (Beyond Cleaning Stage) as one of the internal light filter plates had become burnt due to overheat at some time I presume, shame really as ther rest would have been perfect given a good dust clean, unless anyone has a Philips Bsure SV2 (or very similar as I'm sure the plates would be the same) waiting to be scrapped that they would want to donate? Does not tell you how to clean then but when you see all the dust you will know where the problem is!

OK I've got some photos I took so will try and put something together.

Don't bin them just yet, I've just started internally cleaning them because of the samne reason, its only a dust build up. You'll be surprised at the difference it will make. Its quite easy to do and nothing really technical, just take photos or nots of what goes where. Go on try it especially if you were going to bin them, what have you got to loose! Don one yesterday that had a big blue blush at the bottom of the screen, been told to bin a projector at thet stage before, so stripped it and cleaned it out and turns out it was just a 'clump' of dust on one of the internal screens, back up now and as good as new. Can't afford to replace them that easily I'm afraid.

I'll try and put something together when I get the chance. Just done a Sony today, but more fiddly but doable. The Epson S1 was a bit more fidly than the S3 but not much more.

Just had the paperwork through for my technican job evaluation and wonder if I can ask for examples for the following sections from anyone who may have been through this before jist so I can make sure its been evaluated properly. I'm a technician covering 3 primarys and look after everything from WSUS, servers, scripts, imaging, backups, projector internal cleans, learning platform, training of users, you name it. Only thing I don't do is install projectors and smartboards, leave that to those with the tools and ladders to do the job properly! What examples of technical jobs would cover the following: Knowledge and Skills advanced activities that would require a detailed knowledge and skills in a specialist discipline/s work of a complex nature that would require detailed knowledge and skills in a diverse range of specialist disciplines Creativity and Innovation Work which requires a range of imaginative solutions or responses and involves applicationof fresh and innovatory thinking I'm sure I do alot of the above but ist just a matter of putting tasks down that match them and then evidencing them. Can't see anywhere in it to say getting a technical qualification is going to get me anymore points, so at the moment can't see any mileage in that other than for personal progression, tend to get most of my technical assistance from here , better resourse than any course so far.
