Thanks, just been looking around and found that, also found where I had set it to only download when approved! Doh! Its the setting I wanted just forgot I had set it! I'll blame it on it being Wednesday!

Just a quickie question after setting up WSUS. After setting it up the other day and now aproving the updates for installation I noticed that it says the files for this update has not been downloaded. When are the files downloaded? Did I have to approve them before they are downloaded ready for install or should they have already been downloaded justneeding approval for install? Everything else seems to be running OK. Set one WSUS server before but don't remember reading this but may have just missed it. Can I force the download to take place instead of waiting for the scheduled time, if so how?

Sounds like something I've been looking for to help when PC's suddenly decide they are not part of the domain, a quick script to get the computer name, take off domain, add to workgroup, reboot. then auto add back to domain (or is a reboot actually necessary?), anyone help? Must be nearly whats been posted already but I'm not quite up to that level of scripting :-)

Just been looking at our server and discovered it was getting a little low on space (not now as I had a clearing up session), its split into two drives, one hosting the operating system one hosting some other bits like profiles etc. Is there an easy way to resize the drives as the the second partition has more free space than we will need...and if there is an easy way what should I look out for when doing it!

Have the projectors had their life or is it worth taking out the screwdriver and just cleaning the mirrors and lenses internally, if you were going to replace them, you have nothiong to loose in having a go. Its not that bad a job so long as you're methodical.

I had a Maestro with auto choke that over reacted to very cold conditions and same as using too much choke. The excess fuel in the cyclinders removes the oil from the piston rings so you get no seal and compression hence no start, just turning over. The solution was to remove each spark plug and squirt a few squirts of oil inside each cyclinder, put the plugs back, turn over the engine and hey presto the rings now seal, compression and a running engine. It may run rough for a minute or so due to the extra oil but it will then settle down. It was a common problem I heard and that was the common problem fix. It worked a treat for me.

Just been testing and installing as a local admin at the moment to try and limit the nimber of changes being made and variations to test, but still got nowhere. Tried all sorts of other shockwave apps on the web and they all, including flower, work just fine, just not the one I need!!!! Run out of ideas and patience at the moment! Did email their techsupport but not holding my breath!

iIn the process of trying to sort out my Shockwave problem I decided to wipe all traces of Macromedia from the PC and start afresh, used the uninstall utilities for flash and shock and decided to tidy up a bit more. In System32 there is a Macrom folder but when I try to delete it it the file FlashUtil9f.exe can't be deleted, access denied. Checking it has read only, but I can't change it. How do I do it? I'm logged on as system admin on that PC. Oooops....brain wave alert!!! Sorted now but still got shockwave movie playing problems!

Right, back to the problem at hand...I am in another school at the moment and thought I would just try out the site and guess what....it won't work here either and gives the same problem! I am running the PC logged on as a local admin so no roaming or mandatory profiles loaded, uninstalled shockwave and flash, ran Adobe shockwave uninstaller utility, cleared temp files etc and let the website load the flash and shock when it discovered they were not installed and it still does not work! Running out of ideas now (or should that be ran?) as I'm now asking the question any ideas what iot could be? By the way checked the site at home and it works fine with the latest flash etc.

Unfortunately missewd the pizza as we got caught up sorting out a show deal for prices on a stand. Ah well, got to the stand in the end and had a great time at the show. Well done to all exhibitors, got somne good contacts and a few good ideas to follow up.

I know this is an old thread but got the same problem running Robolab (try the demo on the front page), at school it won't work even after updating to the latest versions but come home and it works fine even after updating to the latest versions. Only thing I can think is we had an issue with access rights last year. Anyone got any clues i.e. is it permissions etc?

Yes, thats correct we have not installed SP3 here, just any updates that would be required using WSUS (service packs not included), anyway looks as though it may not work for me.

Yes, done it before, and yes it blue screens or just reboots as it starts, just rebooted on the setup CD and installed over the top, it detects the new processor and keeps the existing software settings etc, hey presto new PC..may be I 've just been lucky but so far its been OK.

Just sorted out a vbs to run a program that requires a password in the vbs (saves me having to make the users local admins while they are logged on ), so would like to convert it to an exe to make it safe, after a bit of googling I can find paid for ones and evaluation ones but does anyone know of a free one?

Just had a quick look at netlimiter and I can look at the total download/upload of any process and see when its doing it hour by hour, so that should be enough to help me track any problems thanks.

Looking at a similar thing, (home though!) seem to be using a heck of a lot of my dowload allowance these days just for mainly browsing and I want to fnd out if there is soemthomg using my download allowance in the background whilst I browse. Had a look but can't see anythiong really, would netrlimiter free help me in this case? or is there something beter I could use?

Anyone had this problem before or can shed any light on it for me? Got two NEC VL370 Powermate (oops wrong number in thread title!) workstations (two out of an original batch of 10, 12 months ago) and the show the same problem, both have had their MB and powersupplies changed yet the problem has reappeared. The problem: PC has been off overnight Pressing the power button gives the following: Light comes on power button, Power supply fan starts Light on DVD flashes for a few seconnds One beep is heard Power supply and PC shuts down At no time during this is there any output to display although projector did register that a signal had been detected. (Tried also with just a monito connected to the PC as per the other PC we have a similar problem with) Multiple attempts produces the same results untill eventually it fires into life as per normal and when shut down and left an hour it starts up perfectly again! Not helpful for diagnosis! NEC have asked me to check startup with no drives attached which produced nothing new so reattached drives and they started perfectly! Also swapped memory with another PC with no effect I could see as they had started to work as normal. Sods law is that they will not work on Monday when I am not in school and teachers are understandably getting feed up with them (so am I!) Any ideas what to try next as NEC are reluctant to swap MB and powersupply again as they have done this nec already and I can't track the problem down to any single component be it DVD, etc. Helllllpppppppp! (PS Sorry ist a rather long message but felt all deatils needed for a possible solution)
