  1. Or could it be offline files caching? Have a look at c:\windows\csc folder and check the size. I think there is a registry command to clear it but don't know it off hand.
  2. I always check these when we get new gear in. It seems that sometimes the name changes that they use, so I just add it to my batch files (see below). I also discovered on the last laptop model we brought that it sometimes runs as a service now Get rid of Intel apps in systray Get rid of context menu:
  3. ha ha love it! I knew ipads wouldn't take off but this is quite literally. American Airlines planes grounded by iPad app error - BBC News
  4. Probably scared like I am of introducing more problems. Also the updates often require reinstalling every element which is quite off putting and a lot of work. We've got use to the quirks now so it's better the devil you know.
  5. The one of the best one's I can remember is here > CCS64 - A Commodore 64 Emulator - By Per H?kan Sundell for the C64. It was free a few years back and would hope this is still the case.
  6. Yes one of my fellow technicians did contact an apple store and they said they could swap it for us, but there isn't one near us so it wouldn't be convenient travelling and wasting time doing it this way.
  7. Are they all the same model. If so, it could be a common fault on that model.
  8. Are the lamps close to their lamp counter limits? I think the lamps get hotter as they reach the end of their life. Also dust can get into the internals of the projector despite the filters so this sometimes won't help especially if they are old projectors.
  9. Sounds simple. Contacted the people we brought them from and they want the IMac plus the keyboard & mouse sent back to them so they can run diagnostics?? I know it's the keyboard because I've tried it on another iMac and it is dead! Plus the fact another keyboard from a different iMac works on the same iMac! To be fair to them, they understand it is a crazy way to do it but they are required by Apple to follow this procedure. Makes me think, that most people wouldn't bother and just give up and buy another keyboard, and that they know this. What made it worst is the fact that our iMac's are clamped down with security bolt-on stands and this is the first one we've had to remove. The site team put these in place, so I didn't know at the time that you had to turn the bolt clockwise (reverse to normal) to loosen it!! This is meant to be an added security feature. I call it just plain daft, and it doesn't help when the keys are made from a soft metal that starts to warp with every wrong turn meaning I've ruined two keys in the process!! What is the world coming too? In a way I wish I had just sniped the keyboard off and purchased another one for all the bother it has caused.
  10. Yes plenty of people here use Silicon Alley including myself and I believe their staff are also active on our forums. Been with them for 3 or so years now. No-one else in my opinion offers all these benefits: Free delivery of cartridge orders loyalty points to spend on IT related stuff when you accumulate enough Don't pay for your cartridges until they are used Online ordering system Collect old cartridges free of charge Reliable and competitive prices on cartridges
  11. You could just break the hdd out of the external casing as it's most likely to be a sata connection inside and then connect it inside a desktop PC as a second drive to see if you can access it this way? It's a long shot but maybe worth a try. If you still can't get access, try a recovery program like "recover my files" to see if that helps.
  12. I know it's an old thread but started to get the application faults (event 1000) in office 2010 on W7 SP1 32bit for a number of staff. Doesn't happen in W8 with office 2010, so a bit strange. Did anyone find an answer from before? Any clues might be helpful, even if it is a very generic error with numerous potential causes.
  13. 1. Some projectors require a menu option to reset the bulb light or even button combination when firing the projector up. I would download the manual if I was you 2. Again might be in the menu somewhere if there is any config. I assume you've got a Sanyo remote that works with that model and not just any Sanyo remote.
  14. Sound about right. At the beginning we had a test on Monday and then Wednesday and all fine. It came to Friday and the exam officer couldn't activate the exam on the administrator console and it threw up an error so exams all cancelled. After uninstalling and reinstalling the server software numerous times they suggested putting the software on a normal PC (the exam officers PC) and it worked! Some time later on a different day there is a power glitch on the mains where the PC with the server software is on just as the exams have started, so more cancelled exams!! We've also had problems with connecting the test players to the invigilator PC as it won't find it unless I put in the IP address manually into the config of the test player. Then some time later assume that if the test player appears with the exam login screen that it has made a successful connection to the invigilator PC, Wrong!! result: more students have their exams cancelled as I can't sort it out on the spot quick enough. With hindsight the thing to do it is press the shift, alt + F12 and check in the configuration where it is connecting to and run a check. On this occasion the IP address had changed on the invigilator PC even though it was DHCP reserved. Not Pearson's fault, but their software didn't really help in this situation. Other than that individual PC's have crashed during the tests with an error message of "A fault has occurred in blah blah blah". We tried to recover via shift, alt + F12 but it didn't work, so end up extracting various files and sending them to Pearson to see what they can recover some time later. Other than that it's gone quite well.
  15. Yes that is correct, it sent me on a wild goose chase only to find it doesn't work properly now. You just have to test it thoroughly with demo tests and be prepared for any scenario should it happens i.e the test player crashes on a PC. I now check every PC before the test by pressing the alt shift & f12 and running the diagnostics from here.
  16. If you mean the test player, yes, press Shift + Alt + F12, type the password and you should get a number of options which include configure. They don't really highlight this that well.
  17. Thanks for the input so far. This is tricky, I've come to the conclusion there are no decent wireless print server boxes out there! None of the big brands do one for around the £100 mark and all the cheaper brands get badly slated and seem like they might be better placed in home settings where demands aren't so high. My boss isn't too keen on the "use an old laptop and share it idea". The printer I was trying to connect to is an old usb only printer so I do have to provide a print server at some stage. I'm thinking of buying a complete new mono laser printer with wireless built-in. It sounds like the best solution as there are printers from many brands that come in at around £100. Does anyone know how these fare in the classroom?
  18. We have a !'s and as well ?'s. Maybe it is too long then at 31 characters. It was my colleague who was trying to get it to work.
  19. This just happens to be the one we sent back as it didn't accept the special characters in our wifi key
  20. bump, anyone? someone must have one somewhere.
  21. And by doing this it doesn't interrupt the other tests that are still going on?
  22. When you say log "exit the invigilator dashboard" don't you mean "exit out the test player" as surely this would stop the test for everyone else who is still going?
  23. Yes I probably have but it won't fit in the back of the laptop trolley with the chargers.
  24. From my experience there are a lot of connectivity issues with this software, so make sure you give it a good test with one of their demo tests once all installed. The student software can and will crash so make sure you know what to do in advance and maybe try and simulate this in a demo beforehand. Press the alt + shift + F12 on the student software once loaded to access a hidden menu (get the password beforehand from pearson, they won't tell you until you ask them!). You'll see from here that you can check connectivity, recover an exam and reset test violations should they happen.
  25. Thanks but I don't think this will work. Their print server boxes are not wireless apart from the IOS one (we have W7 laptops).
