A difficult one, I’ve had problems with benq screens but also certain laptops when it comes to usb connectivity. What length cable are you running?

I guess it’s us taking control of Microsoft and not Microsoft taking control of us. It’s nothing new with most people skipping Vista and 8. Now we can’t skip a version any more we’re simply choosing a different flavour.

Combination of upgrade to 1607 + sophos took the local dvd drive out for 90+ teacher laptops. Ok it was probably more a sophos thing, but still forced to do the upgrade to stop W10 expiring. Upgrade to anniversary to fix wsus and then updates kept installing and then immediately uninstalling preventing login. Two problems that didn’t need to happen.

I read this thread with interest. We’ve gone to W10 CBB on mainly student devices and other new devices for the last year or so, but still have plenty of W7 devices around. We’ve been stung by a couple of big problems along the way and during that time microsoft moved the goal posts to 2 major updates per year. I never thought LTSB was a viable option until I read about it on here. Considering we have over 1000 devices to support, LTSB is now looking the better option for stability and ease of deployment going forward. Our intention was always to take it slowly and see how it went and it looks like we took the wrong route. W10 is not as good as we would have hoped and MS are as faltering as ever. I wonder if W7 will get the kind of extensions XP did when 2020 comes around?

I have a 7 year old son, so buying one would give him an idea of what I used to play as a youngster. I'm not hopeful though as he wouldn't give my original gameboy the time or day and just said it was rubbish.

Had a quick look and doesn’t look like anyone has mentioned this yet. Sadly it won’t make Xmas this year and is due out early 2018. In my opinion it is missing some big classic games but that wouldn’t stop me getting one. Are the PC's all in the same room? If so it could be a power interference issue.

We still have a single account with a static password but the account can only be used on PC's in the staff OU and that seems to work for us.

Actually I've just repaired one. I opened the laptop up and on this one found a small metalic dome which had moved out of positon of the switch contact. I just sellotaped it back in position and it's fine. On the other laptops this dome has obviously broken off and disappeared either inside the laptop and maybe even fallen out altogther. So I'm guessing I just need to purchase some tactile switches? Any ideas or hints on how I find the right sized one?

Anyone know a way to get hold of a spare one (maybe more) of these? If I look online, I just see options from America. Being hopeful I looked on HP's site and it doesn't look like they supply this sort of thing. What are you supposed to do if you get 3 or 4 power buttons failing from a batch of 90+ laptops that are now out of warranty. I know, i know, buy a new laptop.

We've had patches of network lags since the return from the summer. We're also using Dreamweaver on a larger scale for the first time. When the lags happen, IT Teachers have been complaining that Dreamweaver is taking ages to load if at all. On closer examination of one of the students apps folder in their home folder on the network has created a dreamweaver folder that is around only 4-5mb but has over 700-800 files in it! Now I think this is then causing the lag when you've got 1 or maybe 2 classrooms of 30 students all launching dreamweaver. The lag is so bad, it is having a knock on effect through the whole school. Has anyone else had this issue or know how we can divert these files elsewhere?

We've had a big network lag for some time now (since the summer). The lag seems to last a while (best part of an hour) and goes again. It doesn't happen every day, but when it does happen it probably only happens once day but at a random time during that day. I know, not much help. When this happens the biggest report we have is that one of the adobe products isn't launching. We're talking whole classrooms of students with frozen screens. Once and if their adobe product loads, it is fine. They load it on another day and it is fine, no issues. I'm guessing the adobe software is checking it's license over the internet in part of the launching process. Does anyone know if it does this each and every time or whether it could be every few days? Or has anyone had problems of this similar nature with CC 2017. At the moment the lag is crippling a lot of IT lessons and I think the IT teachers are going to throttle us before long. I've looked for other network factors but nothing is showing up and I've heard Adobe support is not good, so I thought I'd try here first.

I've had big problems with the E70's. These are my tips: 1. Don't use VGA cables of any length. To start with they seemed to be fine, but there were times even a 2 metre cable was showing display issues. 2. As others have mentioned use HDMI cables with active repeaters. If you look at the E70 manual it states it only supports lengths of 3 metres without a repeater! Also to help signal strength limit any faceplates or extra connections where at all possible.

WSUS had broke. Didn't have time to fix it so went straight over the internet to grab updates for a number of laptops and then creators update started silently downloading and pestering to install!! Thanks MS I'm trying to stay from creators for the moment. I know you're ready, but I'm not, and strangely I have to fix your problems when it goes belly up.

This is the first time I've used the creative cloud to create a suite of software for our students to use. I've created a package easy enough and deployed it to my PC for testing. All applications open fine except dreamweaver which complains with this message: "Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menu.xml file. Please delete the current menus.xml file and rename menus.bak to menus.xml" I suspected it was a permissions issue and when I give "users" write permissions to the location where the menu.xml file is, the error disappears. Having a look around generally "users" default permissions are only read and execute on all the adobe programs?? Surely these permissions can't be correct? I worried that this is just one example of issues that could crop up if I deploy as it stands at the moment.

Have suddenly started getting 0x8024401c error message on windows updates out of nowhere on effectively two different images. I'm sure these were updating before the hols started. Anyone else having the same problems?

Sorry I don't use VM's I always use spare PC's to create my images. Maybe someone else can advise? or can you get your image transferred to a spare PC?

Yep you got it, use gimagex on the win pe to do the capturing and restoring. You can map a network drive in PE before you use gimagex if you need somewhere to store your image.

Assuming you have created your bootcamp partition... 1. Sysprep source PC 2. Boot into your source PC with gandolfs windows PE loaded in a usb stick and use gimagex to capture a wim file. 3. Boot using gandolfs windows PE stick again onto a imac and restore wim file to the bootcamp partition. 4. Boot imac into new windows install and load the bootcamp drivers. 5. Sysprep again and lift an image using a workflow on deploystudio.

I'll answer my own question as I've solved it now. I needed to create the windows partitions specifically with bootcamp and then install windows also from the bootcamp process. Then I booted into windows PE from a stick, formatted the partition I had just installed windows on and then restored the wim file (previously lifted from another pc) onto the same now empty partition. Then I can boot windows and install the bootcamp drivers, sysprep and then upload windows with deploy studio. Phew!

Actually don't worry, I just had a bad default document. You set me on the correct path so many thanks.
