  1. We're still on v7 and haven't upgraded because I had read similar posts to yours. V7 still works with W10 for the most part although I'm a bit gutted the auto login feature no longer works when we left W7 behind.
  2. So this is known as the "Windows boot manager". I'm setting up an image for Students to eventually use which includes two installs of Windows 10. The problem I've got is that on the boot menu you can also select the repair tools that students could use to wipe the whole PC, so not a good idea. I can't see a way of disabling them. Had a look at BCDedit and can't see a way or option of doing it. Not a common task I know, but I'm hoping someone might be able to help as I've googled my hands off with this one.
  3. Have to install manually with a boot USB stick configured with the rufus tool. As I'm working on a imac it needs to be configured using EFI. Then just install Windows (twice) using the custom install to pick the partitions I want.
  4. I've been trying initially using deploy studio, but only the first Win OS is bootable. The other one is there but not bootable and I can't see how to make it bootable. Not an easy one to google :-P Thanks
  5. We use this company https://www.siliconalley.co.uk/printing/inkwell/ Don't pay for cartridges until they're used. Keep a full inventory online which is also how you order more supplies by doing a monthly stock take. They take away old cartridges for free.
  6. Bye bye Windows Heaven!
  7. Try looking for my old post below. It’s more relevant to PC’s rather than servers, but may well help after I had similar issues removing printers. I’m on my mobile so can’t easily link to it but the post title is below. Deleting printer drivers on windows 7
  8. Wasn’t going to admit this but it’s quite funny now and case of double dyslexia. I thought the original post said “foot” and not “food” and this was my sarcastic response. Have the admins enabled a random dyslexic mode for giggles?
  9. oh yeah, I do this all the time. Only meant to leave it in there for a few minutes and Doh! charcoaled again!
  10. If your talking about rasmol, we just stuck it on a share and users run it from there.

    Small Printers

We have a load of these https://www.printerland.co.uk/product/samsung-proxpress-m3320nd/133417 Just under £65 ex vat each at the moment. No problems with ours, been using them for a couple of years. Good reviews. No drums to replace. You can get 5K cartridges for them. You can also clone the settings from one to another if you get a few.
  12. Just a stab in the dark, but the new ios has ways to setup automation of many tasks in the new shortcut app. Has a student worked out how to continuously restart it?
  13. I received an email from an SLT member not happy that we couldn't provide a quick enough workaround for a broken projector. The projector is under warranty and a replacement is being sent out within a few days. I explained that this was historically a tricky one to deal with. Even if you have a spare projector, mounts can be incompatible, you have to think about throw distances and maybe if they've got different power connectors etc. Anyway I was wondering about ultra short throw projectors. We don't have any because they are generally pricey, but if I had a mobile one that could maybe save us in this situation. Better still would be one that universally clamps on to the top of a whiteboard. Does anyone know of any such projector or have any better tips?
  14. Can only suggest try another mains power socket, but it doesn’t sound good.
  15. Deleting printer drivers in windows 7 /showthread.php?t=108186 One of my old posts, might help
  16. Just got a new laptop in that I'm creating a build for. This is the first Radeon one for a while. I'm looking to block parts the students can get to to modify settings, which I've done, but somehow the changes are reverting back as if the driver is reinstalling. I can't see anything in the windows update history, so was wondering if Radeon has it's own inbuilt updating. I can't see anything obvious and I've googled for a bit with no luck. Anyone have any idea?
  17. Thanks, I might give the last script a try on a few PC's
  18. Tried this, but for whatever reason it did nothing. can't see what I was doing wrong.
  19. This is a new problem we've experienced this year with ever growing local profiles and small sized SSD's in place. When reported at the time, we fire off a manual delprof2 command to delete profiles until some plonk turns off the PC and then we're back to square one again. From what I've read and tried a bit, group policy isn't great at achieving this. In fact when I tried it, it didn't do anything and I gave up. Yes we can schedule delprof2 to delete profiles but ideally we would like just delete some of the older profiles. When I tried this it turns out there is some bug in the current versions of W10 and it just deletes the wrong profiles and not necessarily the oldest one's. Anyone have any other great ways to achieve this?
  20. This may help... http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-10/207105-windows-10-feature-updates.html
  21. I haven't read or heard a lot about it on here and just wondered where everyone is with it. Were there any issues you've come across?
  22. We just stuck with projectors and just replaced them with LED ones as the bulb ones got old. For size of the display and a cost of less than £500 each it seemed the common sense option for us, and easier to replace if you do have problems. For most part interaction isn’t used so why waste money on it. There are some touchscreens and TV’s where it makes sense, like high ceilings for example.
  23. Or do it on the default user if you use local profiles. The start menu shortcuts are in the appdata folder.
  24. LTSC is not a good idea now and some say never was. Office 365 (if you use it) won't be supported on it beyond 2020. There are other threads on here in relation to this. Although it is more work, stick to the xx09 releases which are supported for 30 months rather than the 18 months for xx03 releases.
  25. I heard a group of Chinese cannibals singing Queen songs the other day. They sang “We will, we will wok you!”
