[1607, au] Windows 10 1607 and failed cumulative update KB4013429
Zourous replied to Zourous's topic in Windows 10
The lack of response in numbers on here makes me think it is a general corruption thing. The event log reports the error code 0x800F0922. Searching for this on the internet points to several things that for the most part I've checked. I tried the W10 reset option on a image that has the problem and the update went on afterwards. We are now going to build the image from scratch and then test at various stages to see if the update goes on as it must be something we are doing to have this happen twice in two images that have been built separately. I'll let you know if I find out more, but I have a feeling it's an error code that could have numerous different causes. -
Hi all, Does anyone use the CMS system from IDNS (keep wanting to say ISDN, showing my age now). Had a search on here any couldn't find any mention of it. All feedback welcomed.

[1607, au] Windows 10 1607 and failed cumulative update KB4013429
Zourous replied to Zourous's topic in Windows 10
Hi @abaxter, thanks for your efforts, but the 2 new March KB's do exactly then same and fail at 100%. Yes, we know about the November 2016 version and had rebuilt the image from this, but still every cumulative update released after this fails. I am just running them manually on one PC at the moment to test. I'll keep digging, just can't understand why some people have success and others fail. I've never know updates to be so flaky. -
[1607, au] Windows 10 1607 and failed cumulative update KB4013429

Anyone else have this failing to install (never mind the issues the update itself causes) ? This update has done what all the other cumulative updates have done so far for us which is to download, install, reach 100% and then fail and undo the changes only to try again later and do the same thing. I've turned off the updates for windows 10 at the moment as it is preventing students from logging into devices. -
Technicians point of view: 1. Apple (example: Mouse doesn't work on imac or the one next to it but it is under warranty. Apple say return the whole imac so we can diagnose the problem!!) 2. Hunting devices and chargers because they haven't been returned 3. IT items purchased (sometimes too expensive) without our knowledge and the first you know about it is when it doesn't work and you're asked to fix it 4. Students turn up at your door to and take you to the furthest away room in the school, when you get there the problem has already been resolved 5. Laptop keyboard damages \ Finding out half the laptops in a cabinet don't work and now it's urgent

I found a post on the net that points to these locations. It looks like the ghost printers might be stored in folder off here. If you had a test PC you try it might be worth a go? c:\programData\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceMetadataCache c:\programData\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceMetadataStore
-
The script should delete the drivers as well, with the whole point of removing everything.
-
Very strange, can you see the printers still listed under the printer management snap-in?
-
I created this script a while back that delete printers and drivers but on a per PC basis. Have a look to see if it will do what you are looking for. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/108186-deleting-printer-drivers-windows-7-a.html I think it works on W10, just have to "run as admin"
-
Yep I'd agree with that, it's going to cause you more work for sure. We've put 10 out in some places but it's far from perfect.
-
Try genuine copies, sorry can't do a link easy as I'm on my phone. They are only about £13 each if you can find it listed. If you do have a spare, you can send them it and they'll copy it for the same price.

What solution are you guys using for OS deployment these days?
Zourous replied to localzuk's topic in O/S Deployment
We've used FOG for quite a few years now and it's better than ever with version 1.3.3. Can deploy images at over 10gb per minute. I'm not sure many other solutions can match that. -
JP-UK - good, used them a couple of times. Just Projector Lamps - Used to use them all the time. Got a few lamps built incorrectly, and their support was very poor. Had to wait weeks and weeks for them to sort out. Also try AV Partsmaster - They are good most of the time and prices are reasonable. Just check your bulb is in stock first if you need it fast.

We've got some 400+ laptops, so difficult one to manage and then laptops go missing left right and centre.
-
Is there a good way to manage this? What do other people do? Up until W10 we had them connecting to WSUS but found sometimes the updates would hold-up students logging in. We then tried taking WSUS off the laptops in term time and then updating them during holidays but this was a pain. Now with W10 a lot of updates are failing and are getting stuck in installing \ uninstalling loops making more laptops out of use when they are needed.
-
We've got the same on our main student image. Update will just not install whatever you do. The event log shows error 0x800f0922 after the failure. I've tried all the usual fixes like the one's mentioned below: For the moment, it doesn't look good. My laptop (separate build) has taken it, but not our student laptops. Apparently a new ISO will be on VLSC tomorrow with this update included, but of course that will require installing everything again from scratch.

Here is our helpdesk numbers over the years. As you can see from 7 years ago the numbers have doubled! I agree with what most people have said about having to support more and more. I think we are also supporting more and more devices. Here it seems that every department now wants laptops for their students so the number grows but it seems more difficult to retire old equipment at the rate it is coming in because someone somewhere kicks up a stink. Also the devices per staff has increased in some cases with some people having a PC, Laptop, tablet and maybe even a mobile phone.
-
We had desktops originally and then went to laptops. Laptops are always going to be a bigger pain with damages and connection problems but overall I think most teachers prefer them. We didn't bother with docking stations and just had the cables loose for them to use. They get the idea in the end. I don't think docks are worth the money.

I wasn't sure whether it would work before I brought the timers. I tried pulling the plug on one of our TV's whilst it was on and displaying a channel, then replaced the plug and the TV resumed to where it left off displaying the channel again. Assuming that is all the timer will do (kill the power) I knew it work. Other TV's may revert back to standby with this same procedure, so maybe worth a test.

Have you not got details on your inventory to which model it might be? If so try this site below, they have got all 3 of the remotes you mention available and at the cost of £11.65 ex vat are a great price. GenuineCopies.tv - Replacement remote controls dvd tv freeview

We used digital timer plugs to turn the power to the TV's off and on. You can set multiple schedules as well.

+1 for keepass, works for us great

PC to Interactive Display (TV) USB connection issue
Zourous replied to MuttsNutts's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Hi, I've been here before with other similar products and know exactly what you mean. Bits of advice: Gold plated cables maintain a better connection. Use as few connections as possible. I have before run a straight cable through the faceplate (to keep neat) to avoid the connection. Keep the cable distance as short as possible, easier said than done. I've found belkin cables quite good quality and they have succeeded where others have failed. Check in the manual of the screen the max supported distance, it might be less than you expect. Best of luck
