Anyone tried this yet? Technical articles on the web advise against it, but is it really as bad as they make out? I'm getting fed up with the upgrade reminders already.

Don't worry I've sorted it now. Just had to add USB (presumably USB 3.0) drivers to the PE disk and now it works. Had to do some reading up, which is hard to do in peace at the moment, but got there in the end.

I'm trying to copy the 64bit W7 partition off my bootcamped imac (late 2013) using Windows PE on a USB or CD (tried both) but as soon as it boots up to the prompt I'm left with no active keyboard or mouse. I then want to use imagex to transfer my image off so I can restore my image to a normal laptop. Anyone got this combination working or know another way I can do it? I'm starting to panic as I'm running out of time to get this done.

In that case most likely something corrupt in her network profile. Have a look in the apps folder and maybe rename something like a word folder and see if it recreates afresh and solves the problem.

The displayswitch is the same thing as the manual windows key + p. Try it manually on the laptop to verify it will actually do it and then check the gp script works. You could test a laptop that doesn't have the issue just to make sure the script executes the displayswitch command.

I would try using an msi snapshot program like emco. Start the snapshot, make the change in the GUI, stop the snapshot and the look through the captured data to see if the reg key you need is there.

I would imagine it is creating a temp profile when their local profile is already on that PC and for some reason it can't open it. Are they mandatory profiles or does each student have a separate profile?

It probably won't make much difference but also try the windows key + P combination to duplicate the screens. Whoops, just beaten to it.

Just W7 here except for 1 tablet that came with it on. I can't see the point of doing all the work to get it working for very little benefit when I've got tons of other stuff to do. For us W8 is just going to be another Vista that we miss out and with W9 just around the corner....

We had the same thing happen last year. The motor went on it and it started to judder up and down of it's own accord, then shortly after the whole screen peeled off and fell on the floor whilst I was standing there. One of our caretakers took the motor out and managed to get a replacement by contacting the manufacturer and he also took the loose screen and all the rest of it to a local blind company who glued it back on straight for us. All this done for a fraction of what it would cost for a replacement.

There were around the £ 70 mark when I asked them a while back. You might be better off just buying replacement PC's

We have noticed the graphics driver was crashing these PC's but then we were using the Microsoft driver version at the time. Yes I know probably not the best thing to do, but it seemed like it was working fine. We updated to the Fujitsu version and that sorted out a few issues and they stopped crashing. That aside, what ever display driver we have installed the fan issue still occurred, so it must be a separate issue. My advice to you, if your PC's are still under warranty, get replacement PSU's for all the Rev3's if you need them now or not. It might involve a bit of blagging.

I'm pulling up an old thread here as I'm hoping someone can help. We've just changed our wireless network and need to add the key to a load of student and staff laptops in the easiest way, quite soon! I can see how it can be done using netsh commands but my boss doesn't want the key visible in an xml file in a share. I've looked back through this thread and have tried WifiCfg_XP.exe (v1.4). I'm not sure if it works with W7 but I can't get it to work on my home laptop Same with zwlancfg.exe (v2.1). Also not sure if it works with W7. It doesn't seem to like any switches, even the one that lists the current wireless profiles so I'm guessing probably not. We don't use a RADIUS server so that option is out Any ideas? There must be a modern way of doing this surely?

I'm opposite, I'm good with patterns and not so much with words. I doubt the test because it only tests me on the patterns and I don't believe patterns alone can give a true reflection of my IQ. I scored 135 on this test, which surprised me because it says I'm in the top 2.8% of the world! Either it's not that accurate or I'm in the wrong job :-p

I find the pattern type puzzles easier than say word related ones so it makes me doubt that it is an accurate test really.

I did have a go but strangely all the tests seem to be the same type when normally IQ tests are a bit more varied and ask different kinds of questions. I wondered what people make of it? It seems that quite a lot of people across the world have tried it.

Just looked at the image more closely, 3711 disks!!!, I can hear that circular churning sound now as your heart drops and you know you've got a read error on your hands. It's gonna happen for sure.

I remember installing windows 3.0 this way after I made a backup set. Disk 28 out of 30 failed on me I had to phone up and ask for it to be sent via the snail mail as there was no internet then. 2 weeks later it came. Oh the pain!

I think for most techies IT is an interest as well as a job and that almost makes it not a job sometimes. Has it stopped becoming an interest?

Skeleton keys are fine until one is lost, and then suddenly someone (if falls into the wrong hands) could get into any room!

6 whole peaceful weeks to do work, but then I think back to previous summers and remember: I'll take it easy at the beginning as I've got 6 whole weeks, loads of time, but then I'll start umpteen tasks and not finish them due to unforeseen circumstances and at the end of August I'm thinking "I'm running out of time and I've got to get this stuff working now" and I can't remember where all the jobs are that are half done, but you will come the start of term, when staff slowly uncover them and collar you to sort it out. I'll have peace to nip to the loo for a no.2 without the door handle being rattled, oh no wait! the loo roll is out as the cleaners haven't been in to replenish the stock. Staff randomly coming into the school especially to distract you, oh but they won't just bring themselves and their trivial issues, but they'll also bring kids and dogs who just think it's fun to run around the place!! And also don't forget the new staff via email, you help them out the first time and suddenly you've got a new best friend and they'll be back to ask you every other question they can think of. You'll go to re-image a room but no you can't because of one of these reasons: The room will be locked, the caretakers will be impossible to find (and just ignore the radio anyway), and the main key from the office has been lost. Electricians have turned the power off Painters are in decorating and splashing paint over the PC's (you didn't know about this of course) Your boss is just moving the switch from the cabinet, but forgot to tell you PAT Testers are in the room just plain getting in the way You'll also get collared by various people walking around that include, lift engineers, fire extinguisher checkers, health and safety auditors or just plain auditors auditing something or another, people that are hiring rooms you know nothing about, random parents asking for someone who's not there. You think you'll take a nice short cut with a load of equipment you need to transfer to a room, but no, random doors have been locked along your path, you'll have to go around the houses instead. You'll find other jobs that you weren't particularly going to do until you stumbled across them: Projectors left on, oh better check the bulb life now and turn it off People logged on to random PC's, I'll just log them out Pigeon trapped in a room as it got through a dodgy upstairs window and has pooped everywhere, better try and get it out the window again. You'll walk into cobwebs in the parts of the school where no one has been for a few weeks. You'll have rooms where PC's will need to be relocated because of building works or general painting, but of course they will finish on the last day of the summer and then you've got virtually no time to get everything back in order. And then you get to sit down at the inset for the staff meeting exhausted, with people nudging you from behind "saying did you have a good summer" before you can answer it's onto a list of their problems, and then to cap it all, all the work that has been done doesn't get mentioned by the Head although other people are thanked! Then I think, no actually I hate the summer.

Well just for the record I have a old hp photosmart inkjet printer. Works fine for my needs.
