  1. I have OptiPlex 320's as well and I can't wake them up either, although I'm not too bothered, but it would have been useful on a few occasions. The last bios you mentioned, enables WOL on add-in cards. Shame they couldn't fix the onboard one first. Also, be aware that this model has an option to put passwords on the internal hard drive in the bios. I think this option isn't locked down by default even if you have the normal bios password set. Even though these PC's have been here for years a student only discovered it last year some time. I've just found out that Sketchup 2013 keeps crashing on this model due to using an ATI display driver that is meant for Vista (We have W7 installed). I've tried various compatibility modes but it won't have it. My only option that I've found works is to revert back to the standard vga graphics driver (yuk!). I thought I would mention this, just in case someone has by fluke the same combination and has a fix, but I'm not holding my breath.
  2. I used to be a parrot but I'm alright now.
  3. Very odd. See if it happens if it is disconnected from the network, other than that see if you can re-flash / update the firmware. How often is the page coming out?
  4. If you are getting spooler errors there are problems with a driver. I've found in the past with w7 it can be tricky to clear out the printer drivers, they won't always go easy. I did create a script in a previous thread that deletes all the printers and drivers, so you could try that. It was called something like "deleting printer drivers"
  5. I would stay away from benqs. Theire earlier models had various problems and now i've lost confidence in them. We demoed a smart touchscreen recently and none of the teachers had a bad word to say about them, and you can stick with using smart notepad . They were quite pricey but I believe their prices have now come down.
  6. I have a promethean board which I suspect has a faulty control board on it, but before I go further I need to Identify which it model board it is. What is the definitive way of checking so I source the correct part? Many thanks
  7. Unfortunately we have TL550's & T650's and Benq have already confirmed they don't have a firmware release that enables a freeze option.
  8. Can anyone tell me, does the smart lightraise 60wi have a freeze option? We brought some benq touchscreens a while back, but much to the disappointment of teachers there wasn't a freeze option.
  9. If the pc's are in the group that should be all that is needed regardless if you have abtutor open or not. The policies should apply almost straight away. Policies stay active when abtutor is closed, that is why we have to set the time limited ones otherwise the teachers leave them on.
  10. Just had a check, it looks like you can apply a policy to a group and then add PC's to that group, so in theory when those PC's turn on the policy should apply. Maybe someone can back me up on this, as we don't normally use policies in this way.
  11. You might want to check they aren't running in eco mode if it has this feature.
  12. It doesn't look like they offer any more different colour schemes to choose from. I'm sure MS could have easily done it, but as usual they are in a different world. I'm sticking to 2010, as I like to see what is on the screen
  13. Thanks for the ideas. My boss decided to pay out for someone to remote in and have a look around, but they couldn't find anything in particular. When the switch resets, it clears the logs, so now we have the logs writting to the dc in the same cabinet. Hopefully next time we will get the info we need.
  14. Change the print button to say "Press this only if you'll really really sure you want to print"
  15. I don't think the heat build-up is anymore than it usually is. I think they are 3com 5500 switches which I think are daisy chained. Note sure if they are add-in cards. Will check tomorrow. Interesting if one of them has a dodgy card. I bet that could be tricky to find, when it could be any of the four of them.
  16. I've not come across this before. We have 4 switches in a cabinet (working as a stack) that have randomly started resetting themselves. When I say reset, I mean they are losing connectivity, and they are losing their stack number for a minute or two before they all come back online. They aren't doing the normal loud firing up of the fans so I don't think its a full restart. The switches are plugged directly into a ups, but the ups seems happy enough and our domain controller server is working off the same ups and isn't going down. The trouble is all our virtual servers are running through these switches to the whole school so everyone just about loses everything and it has happened numerous times now. Anyone have any ideas what is causing this?
  17. For the optical drives slots stick some old actual drives in them from old pc's and just leave them disconnected inside, job done.
  18. Or it's been a terrier-able day
  19. Slightly risky.... I'm doing it doggy style
  20. Hasta la vista, baby!
  21. 1. Check if the flicker still happens when no video cables are connected, otherwise I don't know. Maybe swap test a bulb from the same model 2. Clean filters and maybe swap test a bulb 3. You can try giving them an internal clean as dust does get onto mirrors, just don't touch the light assembly and clean it without taking any individual mirrors out in case you put them back in back to front. The burnt patch one is screwed I think. It might be where the projector been left on or it could just be old age. Projectors probably last 7-8 years I guess maybe more if you are lucky and look after them well. A lot of schools are now going for Casio LED projectors due to having no bulbs and a 5 year guarantee. Hope this helps
  22. If you don't have the benefit of a local technician to call upon, then the best thing is to try and isolate the problem. It doesn't sound like a software / laptop problem, but see if you can try someone else's laptop on the same board to eliminate one or the other. If it is the laptop, try a different USB port or try uninstalling and reinstalling the activ driver (uninstalling the activeinspire itself is not likely to do anything). If is the board, try turning off and on the power to the board, also try using a different USB cable between the laptop and the faceplate. That is a starting point, if you're still stuck, you can report back your findings so far.
  23. or go, go gadget speedboat
  24. I've got a talk talk youview box. Used to have sky, but to save money.... hmmm, on ebay (like I said on original post) £20 buy it now. Straight from talk talk just under £12 inc p&p. Maybe they think you'll look on ebay first, as I did
