Thanks for the ideas guys but it isn't the MB's. Fujitsu have swapped these out and sometimes it happens the next day. Unless they are swapping bad for bad. They did swap a board one time and we got defective nic in return. Also it's not the ram, i tried that early on. Ram or no ram it does the same thing. Any how i'm going to try some more tests to see how i get on.

Pulling the power short term won't work. It takes roughly around half a day before I can get the offending PC to boot again, which is why it makes it such a pain.

We've had a classroom full (30) of Fujitsu Esprimo E3521 desktops for coming up to 2 years now (1 year of warranty left). For the first year they were mostly ok, from memory. Now there seems to be a problem with 5 or 6 that intermittanly won't boot in the mornings. We've resorted to checking this room every morning and swapping out (for another model) the ones that decide not to boot. When they don't boot, the power light comes on, the fans whirl up and stay on constantly with no output to the screen, and Fujitsu support haven't worked it out either. Two or three have been sent off and returned with no fault found. Here are the clues \ things I've tried: It's not the motherboard or power supply, Fujitsu have swapped one or both at the same time on different PC's and the problem comes back. It's not the cpu, heatsink or fan. Swapped one from a working PC when the fault occured, same fault. It's not to do with the power source \ power leads. We've moved the PC's around within the room and the same ones are re-offending. It's not the memory or any other connectable drive I'm thinking it is something to do with a heat issue because the offending PC's if left unplugged from the power will work fine the next morning, but then ones that are turned off but are still plugged into the power can still pose a problem in the morning, and I can't see how these would be getting hot if they aren't actually on?? I'm going to try redoing the thermal paste when some arrives but wondered if anyone could throw anything else into the ring because I'm running out of ideas now.

It is ok, but I wouldn't shout from the roof tops about it. They make out you save lots of money with it, by allocating resources better, but I would say this is worst because the reporting can't match the simplicity of an excel spreadsheet with filters on it. It is only as good as the data you put in and maintain. The best part is the scanning from a mobile.

Yes we have it. Pros: Each asset has a sticker and you can scan it with your mobile and change the some of the data whilst your on the go and then sync it. The search facility on the data is quite good but it doesn't search on all the fields. Cons: stickers come off too easily, your data is accessed from their website which isn't nice to use, it has a cumbersome way of working and reports are confusing to use. I prefer my old excel spreadsheet.

What I've done a few times is to stop the printer whilst it is printing by opening a door. Sometimes if you catch it at the right moment, it can give you a clue to where the problem is. The pure cyan from the toner must at some point by getting mixed in with something else. See if you can catch it the moment it hits the page, and if that is ok, then try and catch it just after that the next time round. Also try not to get too much toner on your hands as the toner won't be fused at this stage

It is a Smart Unifi 45 (I think) DLP projector. We were called out to it as it was refusing to come on. The temp light was lit and I could see just from the outside of the projector that dust was accumlating, but these projectors don't have filters for some reason. At this stage I took it down, opened it up and blew out all the dust I could see. Then when examining the bulb (this was changed only a short while ago) I noticed that a small pain of glass had shattered on the front of the bulb, which was probably due to the heat and lack of ventilation. I had kept the old bulb, so I removed the glass pain from this one and put it into the current bulb. I thought this might have sorted it, but when I turned the projector back on, the image was extremely faint. Now, I've internally cleaned a few projectors recently but not a DLP projector. I would normally clean all the mirrors and lenses in the light chamber but obviously these ones work in a different way and I've read they have some sort of colour wheel. I haven't touched this. Do any projector experts know if I have I missed anything out that needs a clean or it it likely that the projector is pernamently damaged due to it overheating?

I tried the newest version of this driver and some publisher files were printing in B&W. Looking online, other people were saying similar things about the universal driver.

Yes I know it's an old printer, but surely someone out there still has these in a windows 7 environment? I tried the universal drivers from HP and they refuse to print in colour. I've also tried the microsoft drivers and they either print black vertical lines on the image or nothing at all. The printer is attached directly to a Windows 7 PC and was working fine under XP (no, I'm not going back to XP)

Have you tried changing the cyan cartridge as this is the one printing darker for no good reason?

Sounds like a better idea if you can get the drivers to work.

I've got a copy of both CD's for this if you still want them?

Here's another one I've done a few times, you open a remote desktop, go to dos and enter ipconfig / release and then wonder why your session has disconnected.

One of our server rooms is next to a lift and has all the lift gear in the room. No problems as far as I know. We can't store stuff next to the lift gear though for insurance purposes. The servers are at the opposite end of the room.

I've had a couple of these in the last few days reported. In one of them I've installed a new bulb (despite only 500 hours clocked up on the old one) and it doesn't seem that much brighter. The other one the teachers seem to think it's got fainter overnight. I've checked eco settings and other relevant bits on the menu but I can't pin point anything. Do projectors also go fainter with age, despite bulb changes?

Thanks guys, I didn't think it would be a simple explanation but at least I know other people have the same problem. We have around a year and a halfs worth of warranty left so we'll just have to get Fujitsu to repair them each time. It's not good for the teachers when they have large classes and they can't guarantee the PC's will boot. I'm not sure we'll buy fujitsu again.

We have a classroom of 30 of these and a few others dotted around. They seem to have an intermittent fault that is driving us crazy. When you power on the PC it is meant to whirl up the fan for a second and then boot the PC as normal, but intermittently it gets stuck on the fan and then PC goes no further and nothing shows up on the screen. Sometimes by the time we've brought it back to the office it is working again and other times not. When it persists we've contacted Fujitsu support and they've come out and swapped the MB's out (about 5 or 6 now). The problem seemed to go away after the board change, but now we've got one whirling again that has had it's board changed, so Fujitsu have now taken the whole unit away for investigation. I have a nagging feeling though that it will come back with no fault found and Fujitsu are not admitting to this being a common fault they know about. The boards have the latest bios on them before anyone mentions. Has anyone else experienced this fault?

Thanks for your comments, it looks like there is no way to guarantee it will work with any certain splitter so I'll just have to fiddle with cables as and when the need comes up. It can be a show stopper if another tech who doesn't know (or doesn't remember) comes across this situation, so I was just checking if I could make the set-up any more fool proof.

We have a desktop PC in our hall for the teachers to use with our hall projector. There is a powered video splitter connected to it that outputs the display to the projector and the PC monitor. However, occasionally someone will want to connect their laptop to the projector. When this first happened, I removed the vga cable at the back of the PC and plugged it into the laptops external vga port and did the usual key combination to output to the two sources. Unfortunately this did nothing, I just got a flicker on the laptop screen for a second. To resolve the problem I removed the video splitter out of the equation and it worked fine. So does anyone know if this is normal behaviour when using a video splitter and a laptop? I would prefer to not mess around with cables if I don't need to.

I know this is an old thread, but I wondered if you ever found out what the problem was? I have the exact same situation with the same model and only one of them so I can't easily swap the bulb with another. It seems a shame to waste the projector, but I also don't want to buy a new bulb and find out it's not that.

I was thinking of using it in conjunction with imaging with Fog. If I created a VM for use on a dell GX520, would I be able to load the drivers for a GX520 and see that they worked ok inside the VM before uploading and deploying to a real phyiscal dell GX520?

I've not played around with virual machines before. Is it possible to create a virtual machine of a different model PC to my office PC, and then run it on my office PC? If so how would I go about doing this?

I do the same, more or less, minus the hdd swapping bit. If you want to update the image later, just deploy from the image server, update it and then upload again.

We've had this on the odd occasion in the past and it is usually a corrupted user profile, but I'm sure you've probably tried that already.

I'm posting this in case anyone else might find it useful, as I couldn't find the answer easily on the net when I had a problem with dodgy / corrupted printer drivers on our client PC's. I like Windows 7, but one thing has proved very difficult, and that is deleting printer drivers. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes you have to stop & start the print spooler and then the driver deletes and sometimes you just can't delete the driver because you get the irritating "currently in use" message. You would think that maybe a reboot will sort it, but unfortnately it doesn't and your stuck. One way around this issue was to right click on the print driver and click "remove driver package" and then before you click "delete", open a command prompt and type "net stop spooler" followed by "net start spooler". If you hit "delete" on you printer driver the very instant the spooler started you could succesfully delete the driver if you were fast enough. This was fine for the odd occassion but not if you have a number of PC's to delete drivers from. I then found a hint on the net after some serious digging and put together my own dos batch file. As it says in the header, it will delete all the printers and drivers (32-bit) (including local and virtual printers) from the PC it is run on. It uses windows 7's build-in scripts to delete the printers and drivers. It seems that a reg entry gets in the way of deleting the drivers normally, so deleting it before and putting it back afterwards solves the problem. Use this at your own risk, and obviously adapt it for your own use if need be. @echo off echo WARNING!
