[closed] android app: Tapatalk error message

Ditto on iphone 4s IOS 8.1.3 -
Thanks, but it kind of needs to be wireless. Also I would prefer someone to have experienced one they know works well.

Yes I know, they are not ideal, but there's not much choice when a department needs one to go on top of their mobile laptop trolley due to the current one breaking. the criteria is: Cheap, under £100 if possible Connects to most USB printers (so high chance of compatibility with ours) Small size, (well small enough to fit into the back of the trolley) Handles multiple jobs at the same time. Just brought one recently and had to send it back when it didn't accept the special characters in our wifi key!! Had a look for some other cheapish ones and just read bad things about them not working as expected so was hoping someone has one in place they can recommend?

Pearson onscreen platform installation woes
Zourous replied to IT_Man_Dan's topic in Educational Software
All went wrong again today! Managed to login to the admin dashboard for the first time in a week (had to cancel 4 sets of exams in the meantime whilst being sent on wild goose chases by their support) by not installing the server side on a server but on the examiners PC instead along with the admin dashboard! When it came to the exams, 5 students couldn't log on as even though the test player seemed to be sitting happily on the login screen they wouldn't connect properly. I think now that it was because the inviligator PC ip address has changed since the last time it was used, but then why show the login screen and not the usual discovery screen! These students had to be dismissed as we couldn't sort it out without a lot of talking and faffing around whilst other students took their exam. And then one student got to question 17 out of 18 and before the software crashed out on them with an application fault type of error. I had to log them off and log them back on again in the hope the test would resume once logged back in, but nope, all answers lost and back to the beginning again!!! Without doubt the most shocking piece of software I've ever used, there just seems to be loads of connectivity type problems with little or no error checking. I read also on their website a third incarnation will be due out soon. I hope they've learnt from all of this. -

Hi Dave, I had this if it's the same problem. Add the connection manually by putting in the IP address of the invilgilator PC. Sometimes it finds automatically sometimes it doesn't, but not sure why. -

@themightymrp can you login to your administrator console as normal? I'm not sure I trust this diagnostic tool. I ran the tool at home: I get a green tick for "Starting the exam centre service" even though I haven't got any Pop software installed and there isn't a exam centre service running I get a green tick for "Checking the user has write permission to the log file folder" again no Pop software installed!! I get a green tick for "Check if .NET Framework(Full version) 4.0 is installed" Well I kinda of discovered I needed this anyway for the tool to even run! I get the red cross for "downloading package from the awarding body website" with the "Please check that Port 443 is open" Obviously at home I'm not on a proxy, but even if I kill the wireless on my laptop I still get the same message so I think this is just a stock answer for I can't communicate with the awarding body website -

Hi mpatkts, I think you're meant to run the diagnostics on the server, not sure if it's different on the admin dashboard. Can you still login to the admin dashboard ok? -

Anyone? Rep points in it! -
We moved from Aruba to Meraki in the summer. Aruba was fine but we are planning ahead so we can go 1:1 in the future. We do still have all the old Aruba waps available for a price if anyone is interested. They are only wireless G though, but served us well.

Is anyone else (who has POP installed) able to run the diagnostic tool for me just to verify if it's just us with the problem. The tool is called EDI.Advance.TDP.DT.exe and should be included with the latest POP version. I would have attached it for convenience but for some reason it keeps saying invalid file. RM (firewall providers) are saying the port is open. Pearson are saying it isn't. Have tried a telnet to a address Pearson use to verify connection (which fails), and then RM say telnet won't show correctly from our side, so we're stuck in the middle. In the meantime exam after exam is cancelled this week whilst we try and work it out -

Just run the diagnostic tool (thanks to this site for pointing it out) it is failing on "Downloading package from the awarding body website" Please check that Port 443 is open Well we haven't changed anything to my knowledge. Last successful exam was on Wednesday, come Friday and it is broken. Anyone else also getting this? -

Just started using this software last week. All went fine for 2 sets of tests except for clients not picking up the invigilator automatically on the 2nd test and had to eventually key in the IP address so it could be found! It could have been our DNS though, I didn't check. The 3rd test of the week all went belly up. The exam officer had the test downloaded but couldn't activate it form the admin console and it returned an error message. The solution form Pearson was to uninstall the ECS from the normal server and then put it back on another new server. It didn't work, although I might have messed it up due to the time constraints at the time. Can't see why this happened when nothing had changed at our end between the first two tests and the third test! -
Depends how much you trust them. I imagine most places it wouldn't work and it would only be so long until something gets broken. Maybe give it a trial, if something bad happens change it back again and you can then state why it doesn't work.

Don't worry just google imaged it. I didn't know they were called a fish slice.

What is a fish slice??

A quick question. When you list all the different kernels you can use in fog they all have a separate ID number. Is there any way to tell which current kernel is in use?

Have now upgraded to 8.1 after reading more reviews, and it seems to be fine. No major slow downs and no major bugs. Not much to shout about either though, although the new speed dials are handy.

We've just had a Benq TL550 start to play up with the interaction again with a jumpy cursor. I was using a gold Belkin 2m USB and it has been working fine. Now I can't get it working consistently for love or money. Have even tried using a hdmi for the graphics (see previous posts) and this makes no difference either. Anyone else worked out a good solution yet?

How much USB power is needed for ActivBoard
Zourous replied to cgott42's topic in Promethean Direct Support
I don't know for sure on your model, but the power to our's piggybacks through the serial cable even if you use the interaction through the USB. I had the same thought you had, that it should work just through a USB connection, but I'm afraid it won't. It's an odd setup, but that's the way it is. -
Yep, disable start repair, its more trouble than it's worth. Not only can it drop PCs off the domain but there is also a way students can get access to the c drive using a loophole in the startup repair process. If they then use the utilman trick, they could make themselves a local admin and do what they like. There have been a few threads on here about it recently.

Sorry to barge in on this thread. We have numerous smart boards throughout the school, does that allow the students to use the notebook software (free version) on any number of client pc's that are not connected to any board? To my knowledge we never purchased a separate notebook site license, but I didn't know whether it was automatically a site license for notebook if you have purchased one or more whiteboards?

Regular offenders are the "lost keys" emails. I have a simple rule to not lose my keys ever! they are either in my hand or in my pocket!!! Also hate the ones that start with "sorry for the blanket email...". They know they shouldn't, but what the hell they're going to do it anyway. Also annoying are the one's that contain a sizeable attachment of a newly born baby.

Opinions seem a bit mixed. I think I'll leave off upgrading for the time being until the badge reminder drives me mad. I don't want to jailbreak it either before anyone suggests that.
