Is it possible to run GPO's (or a equivalent) with Azure Premium? I would like to move more cloud based but I can't see a way without DC's on site with Federated Services. I'm currently using Azure AD connect to sync Local AD to Azure AD then syncing Azure AD with G Suite. Giving staff and students the best of both worlds!

Sorry this is an old post but I've been looking into this as network security is a hot topic at our school with GDPR coming in. We currently use Endpoint with SCCM and I've never had a problem with it but the price makes me uneasy at it's so much cheaper than products like Sophos. Any ideas why it's so much cheaper?

Most parents have signed a form to allow pictures to be used in public e.g the website and local newspapers. So I guess that will cover us for a internal system. DrCheese - Sounds like a good idea. How have you set that up?

Hi All, SLT have asked for student and staff to have their school photo as their profile picture in Office 365. They want it to have a more friendly/VLE feel. I understand their point of view but using student photo does make me feel unconformable from a child protection view. What do people think?

Hi all, I’m having issues with applying registry keys with Group Policy preferences. When I set a registry key to update it doesn’t apply the change. I’ve had a look in the event viewer on the target machine to see it says Access is Denied when trying to write the key update. I have changed the permissions on the registry and I’m still having the same problem. I think the problem is on the machine as all my other GPO preference’s work fine on the machine. Does anyone have any ideas how I can solve this? I’m using Server 2012 R2 and the target machines are Win 7 and 10. Thank you

This is becoming a growing problem at our school. We unsubscribe but more and more new companies come along!

Can I ask what prices you have been quoted? I have only run it on site so I can't give you any advice on hosted, is on site not an option for you?

Adding members to an office 365 group through powershell
dsquared2 replied to jslate1980's topic in Cloud Services
Safe guarding is a very good point. Maybe best changing to UPN for that reason. At the moment my script I've been testing is: New-UnifiedGroup -DisplayName Engineering Department10 -Alias engineering10 -AccessType Private -AutoSubscribeNewMembers -HiddenGroupMembershipEnabled -Language en-GB -Owner [email protected] -Members [email protected], [email protected] This does what I need it to do but I have to make a separate script for every class. Copying and pasting it from an excel spreadsheet. Very time consuming -

Adding members to an office 365 group through powershell
dsquared2 replied to jslate1980's topic in Cloud Services
Has anyone found a way of exporting classes from Sims and importing them into O365 groups via PowerShell? -
Last time I looked into it, it was £1,500 per year for 30 staff then £30 per member of staff over 30. Just not cost affective for most secondary schools.

Hi All, We are currently using Sims Learning Gateway but everyone moans about it! I know there are plenty of other products on the market that will do the job better (and probably cheaper) but does anyone do anything in house? And if they do mind sharing how they have it set up? Currently writing this post after a 2 days wait for Captia to look at our broken SLG Thanks!

Using Dir Sync and ADFS after a cut over migration to Office 365
dsquared2 replied to dsquared2's topic in Cloud Services
The schools FQDN isn't in O365 as the email domain name is different. They log onto O365 with '[email protected]' so should i add in '[email protected]' to each user so they match? Thanks- 5 replies

Hi there, I have come to help a school out that wants to start using Azure AD for cloud based apps. Last year the school migrated over to Office 365 with a Cut Over migration so didn't use Dir Sync or FS. If I set up Dir Sync and FS is it going to sync up the users in Office 365 with the on-prem AD and recognise they are the same users? Thank you

I’m a Network Manager in small secondary school with one technician and I’ve been doing it for 3 years. Between me and the techie we have got every running smoothly after taking over from an awful Network Manager. Judging by what I was finding he was winging it and didn’t have a clue. Anyway after 3 years we have put all his bad work right. My question is what do other Network Managers do when they get to this point? I know a lot of people will be thinking stop moaning you’ve got it good and I agree but I’m 25 years old and I want to do more but not sure what to do. I have been toying with the idea of taking on another techie and offering IT support to Primary schools. Do I keep quiet and keep doing a good job or are there other options? I am reluctant to leave my current job and give some all the hard work I have put in! Thank you for any advice.

[news] Ransomware hits Council Systems
dsquared2 replied to LeightonJames's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
We are a school in Lincolnshire and we were hit on the same day as Lincolnshire County Council with a form of ransom ware. We have a feeling it may have been the same email as the Council were hit with as the sender was a parent that works for a group of Lincolnshire newspapers. It was sent to his whole address book so I wouldn't be surprised if he has contact with LCC. Anyway we were down for a day while we recovered the infected drive from the back up the night before. -
Hi all, I don’t know if other people have this problem in there school but it’s doing my nut in! Pupils always plug the keyboard and mouse in the front USB ports of the pc’s then climb round the back of the tower to plug their USB stick in. This makes no sense to me and its annoying. Does anyone have a way of disabling the keyboard and mouse on the front USB ports? Thanks for any help!

Hi All, I want to VLAN my HP switches so i can make a guest wi-fi. All the switch's were installed before i started working in my school so i have no documentation. I have found there IP addresses in DHCP but this doesn't give me a clue where they are psychically! I see they have a serial port with console written under neath. Does anyone know how to access the management console on a HP Procurve 2425 with a serial cable on a windows 7 machine? Thank you for any help.

We have it in Lincolnshire. Works really well. We was quoted £20,000 and I have done it myself for £4,500. Really easy to set up! What web filtering are you using?

Hi, I see when One Drive was called Sky Drive you could link it with HAP+. Is this still possible? It would be great to have a 'send to one drive/office 365' option like the send to Google Doc's option already in HAP+ Thank you

Hi All, This has been puzzling me for a while and I’m sure I’m missing something really simple! I set up my KMS on a server 2008 r2 machine, as I added new server 2008 r2 machines it activated them fine via KMS. But now I’m adding Windows 7 machines they don’t activate! Office 2010 activates no problem. I can see in the event viewer the new Windows 7 machines are commutating with KMS but no activation. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? Thank you

Hi All, The old network manager set our SIMS server C drive up with only 15GB and its running low on space, the E drive has alot of space not being used. Is there a way i can change the size of the C drive easiler? and take space from the E drive? I have tried Partition Magic but this only works on PC's, is there any software that is similar for servers? It is running server 2003, any help would be appreciated, thank you
