We have our VOIP direct the Smoothwall as there's no point the core switches doing it, all traffic goes to the Smoothwall anyway. We have all our VLANS as tagged VLAN NICs on the Smoothwall. We have two cables from our two which are bonded on the Smoothwall with all the VLANs, including the external one sat on top of that.

Thank you for that. I wanted to go rack mount just to make storing the thing easier, but it seems you pay twice the price (If not more when spec is lower too) for a rack mount model. I think it'll go desktop version and just buy a shelf for it.

Could you give an idea of users and teams? Have you ever looked at CPU usage or RAM usage on the NAS? Good to hear the offline bit works well, thanks for that.

Hi All, I'm hoping those who use a Synology NAS to backup Office 365 will be able to confirm if the following NAS would be up to the job of backing up around 4TB of data from 400 users plus all our class teams and department teams. https://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/37571-synology-rs820/ + 2x 8TB HDD drives and one 120GB SSD cache. I also plan to only run this NAS for backups once a week, the rest of the time it'll be shutdown so it's an 'Offline' backup. Has anyone else done this with the Synology and does it cope with it? Hi All, Has anyone renamed a node (well both nodes one at a time) in a two node S2D Hyper-V cluster? Of course it wouldn't be as easy as simply renaming each server in turn would it. I think, I can simply drain and evict the first node, leave S2D as is, rename the server and then add it back to the cluster. Resume on that node and drain the other. Repeat for the second node and finish with both nodes renamed and resumed. Once shared accounts is added, it won't have much major missing by look of it, as long as your MFD manufacture supports Hive (Mainly around scanning)

Personally I'm keeping an eye on Papercut Hive to see when it starts to include all the features (Or all the ones we use) of Papercut MF.

As @gaz350b said, password protection isn't MFA/2FA. It's just a system of checking passwords against a common list of 'easy' passwords, plus it stops students using there name for example. You can also add your own blocked words such as the school name. If they replace a O with a 0, it can still block it as well if the password is still easy to guess. For us, it meant we could remove the complex requirement for staff and students which caused some of our SEN students a lot of problems. It works both in Azure AD (In fact I think it's already active on that) and can be installed on your local servers to protect them too. If your syncing passwords to Azure AD this means both ends are covered and you can enable password write back. Another system to look at is Self Password Reset, just be aware once enabled, all Office 365 are asked for authentication methods or security questions. We used this a lot during lockdown so students (And some staff) could reset there password without having to contact IT.

Hi All, We're finding that students are searching for games on https://scratch.mit.edu/ and playing them to waste time. We don't really want to block the site itself as it blocks using the web version of Scratch, we could just do with blocking the already uploaded projects, or even the search? Cheers, Rob

I've put all cloud here but we do have some onsite storage for Application Installers, ISOs and Portable Apps which run from a share (Less than 200Gb). User data however we only have 1 very small (100Mb limit) area which we have to have for our LA data transfer software. Otherwise it's all in Office 365.

Hi All, Is there anyone using Zabbix to monitor there network who has a Smoothwall? I'm having difficulty in getting it to pick up the correct interfaces. I only seem to have a couple of graphs from random interface names but not all of them. I'd replace my current aging home desktop PC. For a number of weeks now I've been trying to solve a problem with it's graphics card but I suspect it's off to that bit Nvidia graveyard in the sky very soon! So this would do me very nicely! Have a good BETT show @VeryPC. I can't visit you myself as I'm a one man band and getting down to BETT is difficult, but have a great show.

We charge them here and just replace batteries more regularly to make sure they last.
