  1. I think your probably thinking about this in a more complex than it needs to be kind of way. If you are looking at using windows 7 then yes, you probably do need to have an R2 domain controller there somewhere. You've not given a lot of detail so I can't answer the question for you but ask yourself these questions 1. how many dc's do you have?, how many do you need? 2. What services do you run at the moment, what would you like to run? 3. Are there any services you would like to migrate from your current server or would like to duplicate? (dfs, dc's, dns, dhcp, Printing, etc etc) 4. Is now the right time to virtualise? 5. Are there any features in R2 that you would like to use or any features that only work in 2003? To my mind the 32 bit machines will never be able to run server 2008 R2 so you should aim to migrate services from them as they wont be much use moving forwards so prehaps look to move small time services to them such as web servers , intranet servers that sort of thing.
  2. Ink is a 2 a penny business, I get loads of calls each day but I only ever use one supplier untill they stop delivering what I want. They should be able to receive my email and get my ink to me the next day without fuss and should be cheapish. I dont expect to be sent products i dont like/want/ cant afford, a decent sales person should be able to second guess what you want through the building up of a realationship. I recently had to mail a company because the new sales dude wasn't working so I got my old one back, Happy times.
  3. First off, If you need to use a proxy you probably aren't entitled to see it in the first place. Secondly , This is a forum for IT professionals in Education... There are more relevant forums out there for things like this.
  4. Deploying Windows Live Essentials 2011 « The Angry Technician I beleive the chap in question posts here.
  5. I'm having a similar problem, but my libs dont point to the redirected drives. the drives however are mapping even if they dont look like they are, use the desktop folder to test.
  6. windows live photo gallery is nice. Worth a look.
  7. Spot on, Our cluster uses £500 servers from John @ ict direct, Our standalone hosts cost around £1000 and our sans are either servers shoved full of disks or an MSA 20 off ebay for £500 all inc. The prospect of spending 10k + on a setup horrifies me. Disaster recovery is about having your eggs in enough baskets and having options to replace when it does all go wonky.
  8. Kms will expire if it doesn't phone home over a certain time period, Kms "should" work ok as long as the dns record is there.
  9. I'd not wash my hands of it, but I'd wonder why it had been reported to me rather than someone trained to deal with the situation properly. Any decent child protection officer should be more than au fais with social networking and how to deal with it.
  10. Got to be honest, If you've blocked facebook then thats all you should be expected to do. It should now lie with the child protection people. This is one of those instances when people try to shift focus because it happens on a computer. If it were a car outside the school the responsibilty wouldn't lie with you and the fact this involves a 'pooter shoulnd't make it your problem!.
  11. try plugging in an exernal monitor with a better resolution.
  12. Food was good, small polo is currently swamping the kids. Think they must have used all the normal size one's at the technical meets
  13. What's your existing email server?.
  14. I'd imagine the only way to get a fair price is to sell it on here, ebay, other generic location. Judging by the prices of the second hand stuff we get I cant imagine the reseller has paid much for the equioment at all.
  15. you wont be able to change it, Choices are use somehting like vnc which interacts with the console, or set your digisignage to run at startup and restart the pc at the end of the rdp session.
  16. They might be on the local pc as a scheduled task, they might run on a server as a remote task, or it might be some custom software. Best to look on the local event viewer then maybe the tasks on the servers
  17. bit of technet... Configuring New Offline Files Features for Windows 7 Computers Step-by-Step Guide
  18. Have you set offline files to cache the drives?
  19. No longer the case thankfully, you can download the Iscsi target software on its own now!. I've not tested it fully but it does have the advantage over starwind in that the free version can only have 2 connections.
  20. might be something in the windows logs, start, run, eventvwr
  21. Error messages? logs? , how are you trying to do it?
  22. Don't look in ad. Look on the local machine .
  23. only thing i can think of is the driver signed?
  24. It does, I didn't mean for you to add them to the local admin though!, remove them from that and add them to the remote desktop users group, that'll be enough to let them use rdp!
