  1. Look at the testout software, as an educator you pay about £50 for it.Even if you don't fancy the exam the training is good if a little overkill for what most people will need to know
  2. Happened again on my phone using the mobile theme...sorry to Be a pain!
  3. vBulletin Message connection to localhost:9312 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused) Is returned when I search for "twitter advice"
  4. And once you've watched them go watch the family guy homages
  5. 4;5,6;1,2,3,4,5;6. Best to watch it the way it was told first then watch the pants newer ones again to fill in the gaps
  6. definitely on the virtual machines, probably on the host machine, depends how easy it is to flatten and start again. You can set exceptions so it ignores the virtual machine processes and even the vhd files.
  7. Until they microwave their Chinese still in foil next to the kid with learning disabilities
  8. It's something we have done here, We found that interactive boards weren't being used for interactive features so it was easier just to limit the interactive bit to the teachers computer. We also have been using large screen TV's in rooms where installing a projector would be difficult. Politically it means the devices are still interactive for the teachers but reality is most of the teachers are still not using the interactive features so we will one day swap the posh touch screen monitors for normal ones. It also means teachers can still have room for a traditional whiteboard which is important to most of our lot.
  9. I'm prepared for flaming when I say this, but how about an office!. Students given their own private work areas where they can keep their learning tools combined with breakout areas for variants on usual work, perhaps team work or quiet reading. In terms of technology each student would have a desktop pc, a charging dock for all their portable tech, Maybe a phone?
  10. Rm showed me a nice bit of kit that should do this, worth a look at least.
  11. Sit down and ask them exactly what they think improving the wireless will achieve. They've told you what to do but not what they hope to achieve. Chances are they will want to reduce logon times, that being the case explain how the chain works and how each part of the chain can make a difference. Also worth asking if they have an existing short/medium/long term plan, if they do then ask if you can evaluate it, if not then sit down with relevant parties and find out what they would like then draw up a plan based on that with your additional expertise ( systems life cycle, software life cycle, hardware life cycle, future technologies, current tech etc)
  12. no no, no need to be like that. So long as you use the computer then you own it, don't worry about the administrators they're irrelevant. all you need to do is press up , down, left , right , A, B C.
  13. Probably a daft question, but google hasn't given me anything concrete. I have 2 routers on my network, both are dual wan. If I want a server to be accessible over 4 ip's, one on each wan connection can I do it? It seems to depend on how I set the default gateway on the server.
  14. Do a search for wake on lan or WOL . There are lots of different solutions, one will suit you.
  15. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-jobs/109026-ict-site-leader-oasis-academy-john-williams-bristol.html has more in the way of details.
  16. must, do , work. *tap tap tap*
  17. upgrade to server 2012, it allows more cores per vm.
  18. The thing to mention is that i'm not all that au fais with macs. As such the mac procurement procedure goes like this.. Teacher: I want a mac Me: Why not a laptop/slate/desktop Teacher: I want a mac. ( there's never a convincing argument) Me: I can't sanction an exceptional purchase without a good reason, you can buy one but I'm afraid we won't offer support (we would if they had a good reason for using mac in first place) Teacher: ok. Teacher 6 months on: Whats my password, how do I print, where are my files, can you purchase x software... I just wish we had one compelling argument to use macs then I could get test equipment and training and some sort of support!. So as someone trying to support individual macs without a clue I can honestly say its a political and technical nightmare!
  19. Sounds like you've been her Dad for a long time already , Congrats
  20. Wisesoft ad managment will do this in s spreadsheet for you.
  21. I think you need rds gateway to be able to tunnel to an internal pc.
  22. interesting point this... if a few facebook mishaps happen would staff be more proactive about password control and restricting physical access.
  23. Just make them aware of what you can and cannot do in terms of reporting and open the gates of filtering!. Sounds likeva badly thought out decision but if they're responsible they'll have consulted all the relevant experts and made an informed idea. Either that or someone has had a go at one of them!.
  24. This is not a support staff decision. It causes problems with work routines, privacy and potentially child protection. The decision needs to made by a member of SMT. Your not paid enough to deal with the fallout of this if/when the poo hits the fan/ someone holds you responsible.
