  1. I live in Poynton (and work at Poynton High as it happens)....this was utter chaos when they were doing it, and if I'm honest, I don't see how it has helped. I'm fortunate in that I only have to cross the junction first thing in the morning and it's before the rush hour properly gets going (and the same applies at the end of the day as well)....but as @Achandler says, people don't know who has right of way, pedestrians think it's ok to just step out in front of moving vehicles....how there hasn't been a serious accident I do not know. It looks quite nice though :-)
  2. This is really good advice, when we bought ours we looked at 5 or 6 before we settled on our "Winnie". We took someone with us who was a general car and VW enthusiast who knew what to look for, so we came away with the right one for us.
  3. Ours is a 1.6, can't say I've ever felt it was underpowered
  4. It most certainly is worth it :-) if you do take the plunge, get yourself to the VW shows, they're a great crowd and they're great weekends :-)
  5. Better question to ask would be "what doesn't cost"! We've had her 3 years, and in that time we've spent thousands on welding, new seats for the front, whole new brake system, replacement roof on the pop top, new engine...we're just about to go for our next MOT which will no doubt be more welding. Plus we want the interior replacing to allow us to accommodate our imminent arrival which again will be several thousand pounds! On the plus side, it's of such an age whereby we don't pay road tax :-)
  6. I have a VW camper...in short it's amazing (there's pics somewhere on edugeek of her)! But it does cost an absolute fortune to run and maintain. We used to have a static caravan in North Wales, but swapped it for the camper, best decision we made, we get to go all over the country in her, see lots of new places etc you just have to be content pootling along at 30 mph for hours on end :-)
  7. Thanks Guys, @pete Sadly the company responsible for the upgrades was a combination of our former Network Manager and the business manager. Apparently the Business Manager refused to let the network manager do the upgrades as the newer versions of FMS were "buggy", so she'd been told by a nearby school. What makes this whole thing even more fun, is that we cannot do the upgrades through Solus either, so we've been sent a pack of 15 disks from Capita with which to do the upgrades from...and it was doing these upgrades (on a test environment thankfully) where we hit the snag with SQL Anywhere as at some point in the past Capita must have stopped supporting it and therefore the upgrades don't work with it. @Rawns - not a bad idea, might well consider this as an option.
  8. Morning all, We've recently taken over our network and are working our way through finding the various quirks and what not. We've discovered that FMS is running many years out of date (approximately 6) and are currently trying to get it upgraded. We've found out that the FMS database is running on something called SQL Anywhere 5.5 (this version was released in 1995) and is completely separate from the SIMS database which is running on Microsoft SQL Server 2008R2. In the summer, we're moving to a fully virtualised environment and would like to get the FMS database and the SQL database running together (as I believe Capita suggest it should be). Having spoken to Capita, they say what we want to do is no longer supported and the only support they can offer is to come and do the migration for us at a cost of £1150. Apparently, many years ago, Capita had a tool that would allow you to extract the database from SQL Anywhere and then import it into MS SQL Server....does anybody have this tool? Any advice anyone can provide would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance Iain
  9. That's brilliant, thanks @vikpaw
  10. Morning all, I don't know if this is an issue or not, or if this is simply how Sims works. I've had a couple of staff raise issues with accessing registers. For both staff, they are doing a cover for a registration and have tried to access the register through the Sims homepage (as you be able to if accessing a register for a normal lesson). When either member of staff selects the cover, nothing happens. If they try to access a normal lesson in this way it works perfectly fine. They can, however, access the register if they go through the "take register" option and then search for the cover lesson, it would just be nice if they could access the register via the homepage for ease of use (plus it would give me a higher chance of actually getting the register completed). Hope this makes sense, any suggestions any one has would be gratefully received. Iain
  11. I'd forgotten about this thread.... I'd had a pretty good few weeks leading up to our Easter holiday to Florida.....so 10 days in Florida and I only put on 0.1Kg!! Back on it again, watching what I eat and upping my exercise levels...hoping to get it off (and more) this week :-)
  12. Apparently I'm a "glorious beacon of light".....
  13. I've had this issue on my Ipad & Iphone, but never had a problem on my pc...
  14. We walked it as well...we were there two days, two nights and were shattered by the end of it, but it is a stunning city. As has been said, the Mona Lisa isn't worth the queue (however it allowed me to tick off another turtle...), however I found the Venus de Milo to be absolutely stunning and well worth seeing. Don't be overly worried though about crime, it's the same as any other big city. Just be careful, keep an eye on your valuables and you will be fine. Same goes with the beggars, we got particularly harassed by them outside Notre Dame, so being clever I tried speaking Spanish to them....but they apparently are multi-lingual beggars and that doesn't work :-(
  15. Last few lots of switches I've bought have come from CP Ltd, always a very good price.
  16. I can understand the practical reasoning behind it (and wouldn't say it's a complete waste of time), I just don't think I could fit it into my budget...
  17. You put a UPS on each of your edge switches? I'd be interested to see any guides anyone has for setting up VLan's on the 5406 as well as Eben. We're in the process of doing a similar project and already have the 5406 in place and just need to get it configured.
  18. That's true, but you did find out the news a good 2 weeks before anyone else :-) :-p
  19. It really was! They couldn't do the measurements and tests they wanted to at the first scan as the little so and so wouldn't stay still long enough! Meaning we had to pay for a private scan!
  20. as long as it doesn't come out doing the badgerbadgerbadger song it'll be all good :-) Everything good at this point, very nervous, but incredibly excited at the same time :-)
  21. Apologies to those of you who I'm friends with on Facebook and to those of you who've seen this on Dadsmancave.......but I'm finally allowed to make this properly public :-) My Wife and I are having a baby :-) Due end of August :-) Yes I know the first picture isn't amazing....but it reminds me of Gene Simmons from Kiss, therefore I like it :-p
  22. Since I swapped jobs 6 months ago I've been inundated with requests on Linkedin.....the very first one I , rather foolishly, accepted the link and within 5 minutes (genuinely no exaggeration) the guy was on the phone wanting to speak to me about "following up from a previous meeting"!
  23. Wow, we almost share a birthday :-) (mine's tomorrow). Happy Birthday for today :-)
  24. Went to bed last night with nothing on the ground....woke up this morning to a good couple of inches on the cars and blizzard like conditions! School open at this point, but a large number of students not in, sadly it seems to have stopped now and the settled snow is melting :-(
  25. If you find such a utility that will list unused GPO's I would be very interested, I need to do the same thing as we've got GPO's that have been in place for over 10 years and I am very dubious as to whether or not they are actually doing anything...
