ok so i'd double check the server has an ip addrss with ifconfig and double check the hostname by typing in hostname i'd also consider shifting to unbuntu server as it's much simpler to set up for new users. sleect lamp and openssh on the install screens and then you have a fully working lamp server

try browsing to the server name by it's network ip: so http://10.0.0.2 or similar if that works try adding the /xibo to the end they should both work. Then you'll need to set up a virtual host for the xibo web address

Why play that when you can get straight to the action and play this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fungames.truck.parking.bus&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5mdW5nYW1lcy50cnVjay5wYXJraW5nLmJ1cyJd

[android] Tablet in the kitchen project - With 'issue'
danbuntu replied to Dos_Box's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
we had one of those tablets in the office. It performs very well for the price. the build quality however was terrible, the battery rattles around inside and after a small drop the screen shatter into many many pieces. I think a Kindle fire or nexus 7 would be the best bet. -
i'd look for a folder called: wincache_ucache_get take a notes of it's current permissions then set them 777 - full read and write. try the restore again and if it all works reset the permissions on the folder back to what they were before

Hmmm, ASUS NEXUS 7 - Not impressed so far....
danbuntu replied to tech_guy's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Just to balance this thread I have a nexus 7 and absolutly love it. It's fast and responsive and although it takes a while to charge it lasts a long time. I use it everyday for reading news, check mail, as an XBMC controller and also with the excellent XBMC android app - syncing to a database on my server. It knocks the spots of my Asus prime and Samsung note. -
it's here: https://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/#downloads

we use moodle. It's got all the AD stuff built with SSO so they can open IE and get logged straight in. You can import pretty much any content you want.

Bring Your Own Device - BYOD - NEN Consultation
danbuntu replied to IrritableTech's topic in Wireless Networks
I actually think in many cases they do replace ICT suites -or at least reduce numbers needed in those suites. Think of those high end packages and then think of the number of students that actually use them. Also bear in mind we're already seeing adobe and autocad start to move to broswer based offerings. Most students are data workers - numbers vary from college to college. But essentially they email and bang out essays and coursework in Word and surf the web. -
Bring Your Own Device - BYOD - NEN Consultation
danbuntu replied to IrritableTech's topic in Wireless Networks
By 2p is that there are two key factors. The first is as you point out the use of transparent proxies. I should be able to connect any device to the network with no config be it windows, mac, linux, android, iOS etc etc. Completely transparent and device agnostic Take the above point and combine it with Office 365 or Google Apps and then BYOD can just happen for 90% of students. They don't need a college PC to access any resource, just a modern web browser and the above internet access and bang job done, again completely device agnostic. Those edge cases requiring fat client programs such as CAD, Adobe suite etc can be catered for in labs or on their own devices in different ways. I think the biggest issues surrounding this is the seismic shift needed by admins in the way networks are managed. The public wifi becomes a wild west which you have very little control over, but so what, it's no different then hooking up the wifi in starbucks. -
General Advice - is it worth it for us?
danbuntu replied to rbjames's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
what about making sure everything is available by a web browser instead. then no need for VDI at all. -
Moodle, joomla, drupal, WordPress or nearly any other cms will do this with the right selection of modules/ plugins. It a case of finding one you get along with

Moodle 1.9 theme for dyslexics students
danbuntu replied to unixman_again's topic in Educational Software
Take a look at the accessibility toolbar module. Moodle Plugins Directory: Accessibility -
$CFG->wwwroot is the moodle url as set in your config file, so that code will always return true. you want to use the global $_SERVER variable: PHP: $_SERVER - Manual ; something like if ($_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] == 'mydomian.co.uk') { echo 'url1'; } else { echo 'url2'; }
-
are the internal and external links linking to the same things? ie are you using something like moodle.college.ac.uk for one and moodle.local for the other? or are they going to completely separate sites? ie moodle.college.ac.uk for one and google.co.uk for the other?

You're probably better doing this kind of think in the .htacess file. htaccess Redirect

Have you seen lan school or italc? They will let you see what is one the screen of each student and act accordingly. Disabling the collaboration features would remove a potentially very useful feature

Using Moodle To Populate An Active Directory
danbuntu replied to cyberrant's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Moodle 2.0 onwards has this as an option. In the LDAP configuration page select 'create user externally' in the 'enable user creation' section. I've never used it though so no idea how well it works or if it plays nicely with AD- 5 replies

[netbook] Easy peasy linux and DRM capable Ebook reader software
danbuntu replied to robk's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
calibre is the goto linux ebook software you can try this: https://apprenticealf.wordpress.com/2011/01/13/ebooks-formats-drm-and-you-%E2%80%94-a-guide-for-the-perplexed/ but of course that's totally illegal and against the license agreement so obviously you wouldn't do it. -
What web authoring program to suggest to Y6 pupil interest in web dev?
danbuntu replied to Jamman960's topic in General Chat
everything is wrong with notepad for this. At least use notepad++ and get some syntax highlighting on the go to help spot problems and understand structure. However if you want a frontpage replacement try KompoZer - Easy web authoring Synack is right though that increasingly things are CMS based so your pupil might be as well looking at wordpress/ joomla or drupal
