We are a college - 16+ - and use that the student unqiue learner number - which is an 8 digit number, the first two digits being the year of intake. As for students remembering it we have the advantage of all students having to carry an id badge whilst on site and we print the student number on their id badge. Given that they need to type it in in order to can access to college pcs/ moodle they soon learn it! The massive advantage of using the id number is that AD/ MIS/ Moodle and all of our other systems are a lot easier to tie together. Makes for much simpler system integration and we've had no complaints from the students.

IIS URL Rewrite - Change of URL but make old links work?
danbuntu replied to FN-GM's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I would check if you VLE supports changing the url. FOr example with moodle you can go to http://www.sitename.com/admin/replace.php this will then let you put in the old url and the new, then search and replace in the old url in the database with the new one. there fore you wouldn't need url rewrite -
we use vshare. there is a cost but it's tiny.

not a desktop app but Subsonic totally rocks.

it should work. If you do get it working I'd suggest you P2V it into a virtual machine and then you can keep a back up of it.

Does the HP Micro server have hardware or software raid?
danbuntu replied to edutech4schools's topic in Hardware
There are several models of microserver so you'll need to check. Mine takes ECC laptop style memory. Best bet is to use the Kingston site or similar and use their memory checker. Ther way you know that you are getting the right thing. -
Does the HP Micro server have hardware or software raid?
danbuntu replied to edutech4schools's topic in Hardware
it doesn't do raid 5 in hardware. I have one running 4 X 2tb disks in software raid and the included 250gig as a the system disk mounting in the cd drive bay. It runs Ubuntu Linux and as a home server totally rocks. -
We use it here with our exchange 2010 environment - i don't think it works with exchange 2007. We use it as our phone system and it works really well. We have a mix of desktop phones, jabbra mini handsets for laptop users and headphones with mics. Overall the users get on really well with it, although our reception were very stuck in their ways and took some persuading. We have also just set it up for federated access with another college in the area.

sounds like a php error. Best bet is to turn on error reporting in your php.ini and then it should print our any errors and give you an idea of what's happening
