If you don't have root access to the ubuntu server - sahred hosting etc - then you can't upgrade the php version.

why not just turn on moolde ldap authentication? That way when users log in for the first time their account is automatically created. You can then use the moodle settings to pull in all the ad user information you want (names, id number etc) and moodle will automatically get these records up to date on each login.

I have had moodle running for some time find on windows 2008 R2 SP 1 with apache 2.2 and mysql. We use the apache sspi module with the .htaccess method from moodle.org Recently we've been getting errors like: [Tue Sep 20 18:08:31 2011] [crit] [client 178.103.60.247] configuration error: couldn't perform authentication. AuthType not set!: / This is causing a lot of cpu activity and very slow log ons The authname and authtype are set in the .htaccess file and liuke I say it has been working any ideas please. If I can't solve it early tomoorw then i'm going to have to trun of single sign in, which isn't going to make me any friends

you can use Centos or Scientific Linux which are both essentially re-branded RHEL As for the OP I would say best bets are Ubuntu Server or Centos if you want a full Linux distro FreeNas if you really want just nas functionality Zentyal if you want a free linux based server but want a simpler setup

It's different enough, if you just upgrade your not going to make any friends. Best bet is set up a seperate moodle 2.1 install and use mnet to link the two together. then put some training resources and sample courses on the new 2.1 install so that the tutors can log in and take a look. This will let them have a play and get used to moodle 2.

you should look into google apps for education or live @edu. both give students a block of cloud storage which would replace their personnal drive and give them access to them from any where on the internet. We also allow access to usb drives. We have AV everywhere and come down like a ton of bricks on students that abuse the system.

each of our students has a personal learning plan on our moodle VLE. Parents have access to that plan via a separate parent account and so can see their wards progress. We also use this plan heavily as part of parents evening.

Hi all What's the difference between free and available memory in the windows 2008 task manager? We have a moodle server running on windows 2008 that keeps running out of free memory. We bounce the apache and mysql services and then get over a gig of 'free' memory back. the server show over 3 gigs of avaiable memory

you could run edubuntu in virtualbox on the host machine. This comes with the linux terminal server project built in. You'd then pxe boot the clients and would get a full linux desktop on each with internet, open office and other goodies

astro file manager with the smb extension lets you do this I believe.
