All the virtual machines are in a hyper-v cluster so can be anything from one to three hosts, though I do keep them on a min of 2 separate hosts. IMHO, any outage of a service is unacceptable be it for a sole trader working from his home computer to a large corp. Why should a school expect anything less regardless of the economic climate?

I have 2 servers runing a DAG for redudancy and a front end server for OWA which are all VM's (hyper-v) was very easy to setup. I used the ebook - Exchange 2010 A Practical Approach by Jaap Wesselius which got me started.

I have seen that option to assign to yourself but I don’t see the student doing that to run a content package. I have tried running the package directly as its only html with swf files, however is doesn’t work over SSL and they will not support me if I don’t use it as a SCORM package. Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Is there a way of just 'playing' scorm content without assigning everything to users? The reason I ask is because we are getting so much content that's static like ebooks etc, it's not really an assingment more a fix resource and a standard link on a page would be much better for us. How do other people handle resources like this? Rob

On a cheaper note you can also stack using standard copper ports at the front (not advised) or buy an SPF+ Active cable and stack at 10GbE for about £50. (The 24GbE stacking kit is around £250)

I wouldnt want to go second hand on a 'core' switch, could you not look at Netgear they would be much better value for what your looking for. Not as powerful as HP but can achieve the same goals for alot less bucks! Also life time warrenty. GSM7252PS - might be a good start L2+ so static routing is supported (even come with build in SPF+ ports for 10GbE) Then use 'smart' switches at the edge, they all support 802.1x for auth, VLANS, Static links etc so very capable and for the money very good with all ports at gigabit. If you can strech I would recommend L2 managed stacking switch from a core cabinet to you outer cabs but depends if the money goes that far. That should get you a much faster network than HP would in that sort of budget.

Yes we do for all staff, students and Parents gaining access to anything remotely via TMG using a RADIUS server.

The TS-439 wouldn’t be man enough IMO I have a TS-859 Pro+ for my disk based backups and that it can struggle sometimes with only one server attached. I would at a minimum go with the TS-809U-RP if you’re going to use as a main SAN for your network. Putting them at each end of the site isn’t a bad idea, you would need a couple of redundant links and switches. You also want to keep your SAN traffic separate from your main network, vlan will be ok but I would also recommend separate switches for optimum reliability and performance.

Check there isn't a speed mismatch on the switch ports, set to auto until you find the fault.

I've never had to do any of that apart from install FMS in the x64 program files folder instead. Works fine.

I’m more than happy with my iSCSI performance (7100), though it really was noticeably slower before the software update. I’m using Hyper-V however so not much help there as iSCSI is really the only ‘supported’ option.

Is not true, all our workstations are 1 GbE with 2 GbE trunks that iv never seen saturated, even when imaging entire buildings. Personally Cat 5e will be fine for the desktops even at 1GbE speeds, I would spend the money on fibre lines to your switches. Much better future proofing.

We use FreeRADIUS with our ISA firewall, everyone has AD accounts but then we issue our users with passcodes for home use. Including parents & students, staff we use a known number (to them). These passcodes are controlled by us and cannot match their AD passwords. Not perfect I know but adds another layer and totally free, better than nothing and we all know how weak peoples passwords can be even with rules in place. I dread to think managing remote keys to staff let alone parents. If you are serious about secure keys, have a look at these , I had some demo unit shipped over and they were very impressive. Very strong with no batteries to replace and a low unit cost. Their software plugged right into ISA and allows you choose if you wanted certain users to use keys or not (surprising not a common feature I found) AuthLite

Don’t know if the GP setting to hide the system drive might be conflicting. Not too worried at this stage.

That’s interesting about the reconnect issue, I was having problems with CallParents and TruancyCall complaining about cannot connect to the mapped drive until I have used explorer. I ended up using UNC paths which is much better anyway. On another note, does the 'Hide' drive work for anyone, I tried using this setting but nothing happened. I know I can do it other ways but strange why it didn’t work. Anyhow overall a good improvement MS!

With the latest release of SIMS summer 2010 update (7.132 I believe), is this now Win7 X64 supported as it was suppose to be? Can't seam to find anything on SupportNet to back this up, though Id ask before giving them a quick call.
