So under the user account profile tab, we have the profile path \\server.local\profiles$\students So for the Windows 7 profile do I just copy up the profile from Windows 7 to a folder called students.V2 within \\server.local\profiles$ and Windows 7 will automatically pick up "students.V2" and XP will carry on using "students"? Hi Edugeek's, We have a bunch of workstations currently running Windows XP Pro, with our server running Server 2008. The students and staff use mandatory profiles with "My Documents" redirected to their home drive with only a couple of users in school office using roaming profiles. We are looking to move to Windows 7 or maybe newer but will need to replace a chunk of the machines to run the newer OS so would like to stagger the update as the budget doesn't allow us to go out and replace the old machines. My question is, how do you deal with profiles with Windows XP and Windows 7 running along side each other? I understand that if you have roaming profiles enabled with XP, it will create a Windows 7 profiles using the appended V2 and there are no real problems. But can you have mandatory profiles running concurrently to cover both OS's? If not, any suggestions on a good course of action to take to help migrate?

After doing a little research it seems the ML110 G6 SATA/RAID controller isn't supported by ESXi but by changing to RAID mode it will work. Anyone have one of these and have you had any trouble with setting up ESXi?

Hi All, At our school we are currently having a new classroom block built and I have been asked about network cabling. The questions I have are do we have Cat5e or Cat6 installed? What are the pro's and con's? Is there enough positives to warrent the extra cost for Cat6? What are you installing in your new classrooms and why? This new block will be wired to its own cabinet then connect to the rest of the school via fibre. The rest of the school is Cat5. Many Thanks Matt

Yeah, it will be Server 2008 R2. Many Thanks for all your comments, Do you guys backup your VM DC's if so what methods? backup of the virtual disk or backup the system like normal? or both? I read there are problems with snapshots and AD problems.

Hi All, We currently have 1 domain controller(physical server) which is also acting as file/print server. I want to add another DC to reduce recovery time. I was planning on making this new DC virtual and would like your opinions. Currently we don't have any other plans to add extra servers, however this could change. So one of my questions is, do I bother virtualising this server what benefits will it give me or do I just add it as another physical server? I was planning to use VMware ESXi on a budget server like HP ProLiant ML110 G6 - Xeon 2.5 GHz, 4 GB Ram and mirrored disks. Will this spec be enough? Any Suggestions or Comments are welcome Thanks Matt
