Evening all. Just shouting out for any help. We have a single Palo Alto Firewall pa-500 which has served us well. We upgraded the Pan OS on it on Friday but the unit has died! with our RMA we will get another on Tuesday at the earliest but we really need the internet to be up and running on Monday so students can "remotely" learn. I'm reluctant to shove another different firewall in there as I just I don't think I could set it up appropriately in the short timeframe (although I am all ears) so was wondering if anyone had any advice or possibly an old PA-500 firewall kicking about that would allow us just to drop our config in! Any help or advice gratefully received!

I've been wanting to ditch my smartphone due to annoying myself that I check it too much. I have access to a computer most of the day so really only want it to call/message. I always feel so guilty when toddler daughter tells me to put my phone away becuase shes trying to tell me something! I'd ideally like a feature phone that I could use WhatsApp with and has a OK camera. That would suit me down to the ground! Any examples of such a phone would be greatly appreciated!

It also protects smaller companies from boxshifters. Small local company A does site survey and loads of work for you helping you get setup with advice and great service. But you go with large company B because they have greater economies of scale and therefore cheaper prices. Small company A then loses all the time they spent on helping you where as company B wins purely on size of business. It is an annoying system but it does have its advantages .

Just wondering if anyone has an example of an IT governors report? I have been doing them for the last couple of years and it occured to me I have never seen another one, or been given any advice or feedback in the ones I have created. Any advice on what it should / shouldn't include and any examples of one's you have done? Thanks

We have it going. Make sure you let parents teachers and students know it's on! Caused a bit of a fuss when parents got a message on Sunday afternoon saying their child handed handed work in. Unless the "turn in" button is clicked them parents get a message to say it hasn't been handed in. It's got potential but currently it's only the title of the assisgnement and wether it's been "turned in" or not. There also isn't any granularity to it. It's either off or on.

Can I ask for those that have this working does OneDrive sometimes take a while to kick in on first login. It works fine on our machines but on first login it can take 45 seconds after login to kick into action. This is on a well specced PC . The desktop does a little flash and if you have file explorer open it will close it. Once that's happened first time round it's almost instant to login on subsequent logins. Also has anyone had it fail to save? What's happens to users Docs if it fails/logs off too quickly for some reason?

Thanks so much for all that. I think I might give our SMB shares another go. Sounds like our setup is similar to yours but on a much smaller scale. Would it be a stupid idea to turn the caching on on our Mac that runs profile manager? Can you from there just point it at a share? Or is it better to just have a dedicated device. We have "Mac" vlan so should be good to go with that. Anyone wanna buy a xserve?

Can I ask, did you do anything special with your windows shares to make them work successfully? Any chance of a basic rundown of filesystem and how you have them mounted in profile manager? Lastly how do the Mac minis work as a caching server? You couldn't point me in the right direction as to what this does? Thanks

I have used Agile ICT before in varouis local primaries around Hampshire. In terms of customer service they are the best company I have ever used.

Maybe I will use this as proof of concept and look at a Mac Mini setup down the line. Intrigued how other schools share files over their Mac networks. Would love to use our current speedy SAN bits it's never worked as I would have hoped as I've only been able to setup windows file shares from it.

So I've just bought an old xserve from eBay to use as a FileShare for our Mac Suite. We have a decent network and speedy San already bit have never successfully cracked using the windows shares for our Mac suite so I thought I would try a mini project. I have no experience of an old xserve 3,2 but was hoping I may be able to get some quick fire answers. Feel free to tell me I'm an idiot for trying to make such an old piece of kit work but the reasons I want to use it over a Mac mini are: -rack mountable -native raid -dual gigabit Questions are: 1. Am I stupid? Will this work? Is it worth it? 2. If it has a fibre card can the fibre card be used to connect to the network, or was it just designed for connecting to Xraid? 3. Can the CDROM drive be taken out and replaced with another HDD 4. Is it worth me mashing the OS to be able to bring the OS up to date just for a FileShare? Has there been any major changes recently that would make the FileShare better on a newer Mac OS 5. Can I just shove a bunch of 1tb SSD drives in and it be work? Or do I need apple drives? Any help or opinions gratefully received!

Would we be able to use Google/apple version independently if if don't like the NHS one?

It's a shame. I'd happily pay a bit more for the functionality. Maybe need speak with our feet! Maybe time to start lobbying a few of these companies in a nice way.

Just wondering if anyone has any idea how much it costs companies in dev/time/licencing? to set up oauth. Getting really miffed with lots of big names still wanting manual creation of accounts and another username and password for kids to remember. Is there a big cost involved in setting these up for smaller companies? If not I'm tempted to start sending out "buck your ideas up or were leaving" emails. I would like to proven wrong that lots of these companies aren't just dragging their heels!
