    UPS on switches?

Blimey. Didn't realise so many people had it set up already! Think I will look into it. @FN-GM where do you work now?

    HP MSA & SSDs

Are you planning on setting the SSDs up as a performance tier or just their own group?
  3. Just wondering....... Our server cabs are obvouisly plugged into a UPS but just wondered if anyone is Gucci enough to have their and other random cabs/switches attached to a UPS and if so what have you used for some basic protection and minimum uptime.
  4. I have a nest system which is great but was hoping they would bring out smart TRVs. It now looks like they won't bother so I may switch at some point. Annoying
  5. If you keep the old boards in a lockup and use your current boards on new non Promethean kit does that tick the box for being legit?

  7. Just thought I'd update the thread. I failed with getting anything back from HPE other than some replacement refurb drives. Several thousand pounds out of pocket, days lost, multiple sleepless nights due to these crappy self destruct drives. I don't think I will be using HP gear again.
  8. Thanks AdeB. Appreciate you coming on here on like you said probably not the best way for us to ask for support but probably a good way of us asking questions about the support. First up just to say once I got through to support the service was great and you guys helped out efficeiently and effectively. But getting through was an complete nightmare....I had to take to Twitter to get any form of response. I have only just got an "official" response from my email ticket which was over a week ago. I never got tickets created for the 2 online forms I filled in. Presumably other than having your workforce at home/off sick it is business as usual for you guys with Covid? If this is the case then how is it you have such a backlog of tickets? End of Aug/start of September is obvouisly the busiest time for you but you must know that and plan it in? Over a week response time for an what O thought was an emergency request ticket really doesn't cut the mustard It really is sticking point and will be an important consideration when signing up for new contracts. Just to add Adbe this isn't a direct moan at you. It's based on your current support business model. We really do appreciate you coming on here to no doubt get hounded!
  9. When do we stop paying? My groupcall messenger literally isnt working at the moment so not ideal when you don't even have any feedback saying how long you might have to wait! The answer machines are mentioning covid as an excuse but Im not sure how this would affect their business model in a way that they no longer do any support. In fact, I would think they would thrive during lockdown!
  10. I shouldnt laugh but everyone single extensions mailbox is full!
  11. Any update on this? Need some urgent support but cant get through to anyone either on phones or via messaging. Bit worrying! Does anyone have a direct contact?
  12. Just to add even if I did have warranty it would only be a drive replacement they would offer no kind remittance.
  13. Cheers for info. This particular firmware problem renders the drives useless after a set amount of hours. So in essence what you're suggesting is that a vendor could legitimately make it so there hardware self destructs one day after warranty and thats OK?
  14. Hi All Hoping for some advice on our rights for failed hardware. I won't name the brand yet as I want to give them the benefit of doubt they may help. We have had our SAN for 3.5 years so a few months out of standard warranty. We have had 4 drives fail at exactly the same time due to some dodgy self destruct firmware we knew nothing about. The brand have offered to try and recover the data which will take over 6 weeks if recoverable at all, or they will send us some new drives and wipe the SAN. On there own none of the options are workable for us without some help. Me and my team have worked our socks off failing over to our DR site and makeing sure the school is still up and running during one of the most stressful and busiest times of our lifes working mega overtime whilst there is so much else going on. The service at school has also been interrupted as we have had to take down non critical servers as we don't have the DR capacity. Becuase of this I have have called upon a local company of specialists who are helping us restore our site to a borrowed SAN so we can make sure all the backups are working before writing back to our own SAN and writing over whatever data may be left recoverable. This is great and I am very appreciative of the help but it will obvouisly come at an expense. The only saving grace is that when we did our server refresh 3.5 years ago we didn't refresh our Backup and DR setup with the same kit as otherwise they would have all died at exactly the same time! So my question is this: The drives are out warranty but come with a ticking timebomb firmware problem which I was never contacted about. I don't feel like the replacement of drives is anywhere near close to compensate for what we've had to deal with. Does anyone know what rights we may have to exercise and what they think is a reasonable response from me bearing in mind this has taken a real toll and me, my team and the school. Cheers in advance and any opinions welcome.
  15. Just wanted to bring this back to the top of the forum to save anyone else a headache. Check your HP gear now! We have just fallen foul of this. 4 drives all gone at the same time, having to rebuild SAN from scratch. Absolutely gutted I didn't notice this article before. Anyone know their consumer rights inside out? Our San is 8 months out of its 3 year warranty. We have to completely replace the drives and will be paying consultancy to help get up and running again. HP have offered to fix the drives but it will take 6 weeks and they can't garuentee the SAN will rebuild from that so pretty useless! It seems mad these ticking time bombs are inside our enterprise equipment and HP only effort to let people know is a message deep in there website!
  16. Cheers all for the advice. I am currently going through the motions with the return which they have been quite good with helping me with but have said it can take up to 8 weeks. I currently have what the garage believe to be a working car on my drive but after the problems Ive had driving it and they have had finding the fault im not willing to be the test driver for what is/was a really dangerous fault with the vehichle. I will keep you updated
  17. Evening all. Hoping for some advice from someone better informed than me! I have been leasing cars for a few years due to the fact I know nothing about cars and am willing to pay for "peace of mind" and no outlay etc etc. My current lease car has been a Nightmare though. I have been plagued with an ongoing fault that the garage couldn't recreate, that is until the car complete failed and needed to be towed to the dealership. They had the car for 2 weeks scratching their heads working with the central master technicians. I won't put too much more detail as it's irrelevant but the chap from the garage has refused to give me the technicians report. The repair he cited doesn't add up to me and whilst the car is currently working fine I feel like they are hiding something. I am currently going through the process of sending the car back but in the meantime I feel like I am the testbunny for a car I dont trust with no idea of what the the dangerous fault was. So my question is this.......do I have any rights to see the technical reports for the vehicle? What reason would he not give them over and if I triggered a SAR could I get any info about the report with it? Cheers all
  18. When installing OneDrive for business (don't use built in client) install it with the switch to install for all users. We were scratching our heads with this one also. I can't remember the exact command but you should now be able to sort it with that clue.
  19. Cheers all. Really useful. Anyone used the shifts app in teams?
  20. Would be great to know any info on your flow as well.
  21. That sounds great. Was thinking of using some kind of form but never used flow. Can I ask for a quick example of how the flow works I'm this case? Cheers
  22. Hi all. Just wondering what process and procedures you have for recording staff leave and absence. Currently we are filling out forms and then our HR department files it manually. It's all a bit hap hazard. Would like to streamline the process somehow so we can view what holiday we've taken and who has holiday at the same time etc. Cheers
  23. Check out this thread: /showthread.php?t=215256
  24. Can I ask (without derailing the thread) do people that have a "cloud" firewall get it through there ISP or separately? Also are there any technical drawbacks from having a cloud firewall?
  25. Yes please! We can pickup pretty much any time over summer!
