  1. PROBLEM SOLVED! After having a look at the Users folder and at the profile list in the registry settings (thanks Amanda) , I noticed that there were more profiles in the registry than there were in the Users folder. As we don't use roaming profiles i just deleted the keys (leaving the Administrator, User) and now when users log on- no temporary profile. The list was huge compared to the folders created in the users folder so something has gone wrong somewhere along the way. I'll be monitoring it to see how it gets on but i feel this has fixed it. Thanks everyone for your help and guidance.
  2. Thanks for this suggestion. Checked it out and we don't have google toolbar installed so it can't be that
  3. I've cleaned the registry settings with no luck- it seems to be happening with all users who log onto those particular machines.
  4. It's a Netgear GS724T. Log shows no errors. Strangely even though this profile issue has occurred there are no network drive problems for the user...
  5. This doesn't explain why it should suddenly start happening out of the blue though...? Our users don't have profiles stored on the server by the way.
  6. There is no old one They've been running without a hitch for ages- it's just in the last few days they've started doing this.
  7. Users have been logging on to some Win 7 machines without a problem for ages but now, whenever ANY user logs on, it logs them on with a temporary profile... This is only happening on 5 machines in our PPA room. A new switch has been added in there (managed) recently. Could it be that? When I log on as a domain admin- it logs on without a problem... Nobody is using roaming profiles.
  8. I wanted to revisit this thread as we've upgraded all our machines to Win 7 now without any problems other than the TEMPORARY PROFILE issue returning TODAY! Users have been logging on to the machines without a problem but now, whenever ANY user logs on, it logs them on with a temporary profile... This is only happening on 5 machines in our PPA room. A new switch has been added in there (managed) recently. Could it be that?
  9. They're unmanaged switches so I don't have the ability to do that... looks like there is only one option left!
  10. Well- ordered a new converter with no joy, the problem was still there. We asked our local networking company to come in and have a look to see if they could fix the problem. The tech guy came in, checked through all the same things I checked through like cables, connections, switching things off and on and it still didn't work. He left. Five minutes later- the computers suddenly began receiving IP addresses and connecting to the network no problem... A few days later- they stop working again and stop receiving IP addresses. I put a new switch in the cab where the PC's are terminating...still no joy. Anyone out there got any idea??!! The only other solution i can think of is instead of the fibre connection, using CAT5e to link the problem cab to our main hub like all the other cabs.
  11. Hello, I wondered if anyone here has had experience using Minecraft in a Primary school on a LAN and how much it costs / what is involved in setting it up?
  12. Yeah that's my first port of call i think- going to order a new tranciever and take it from there :/
  13. We have had work done but i don't think it has been near the fibre link
  14. It's BACK but in a different form... :-( Seems now the connection on the machines is intermittent. I'm definitely suspicious about the fibre optic converter...any experience of this? Tips??
  15. Right then. The problem has gone... Turned out it was the fibre optic link between cabs!!! Turned off the converters, turned them back on again, problem solved. Flipping crazy problem thanks for your help peeps!!!
  16. Just had a check and we do...although this shouldn't really affect wired machines should it? Are you suggesting I unplug the AP?
  17. Okay well it did it with a laptop too... so at least it rules out the machines. I think i'd have preferred it to be the machines to be honest... Any other ideas?
  18. Only other thing on there is a Unifi Wifi access point... I'll grab a laptop and give that a whirl and report back.
  19. Hi, For some weird reason about four of our Win7 64-bit PC's have started failing to be able to contact our DHCP server. Just getting 'Unauthorised network' in the connection settings and can't change it from 'Public' EDIT: IT NOW SAYS 'UNIDENTIFIED NETWORK' and the 'unauthorised' bit has gone... :-/ It's very strange as they were fine before. They are connected to a switch in a cab on the top floor which is fibred to another cab on the lower floor. This then connects via CAT 5e to our main switch. Does anyone know what it could be? I have tried the following already: - Removing the ethernet adaptor and reinstalling - ipconfig /release and ip config /renew (when doing this it fails to renew, even though it gets an IP assigned on boot up) - Removing from domain but then failing to be able to rejoin Help appreciated as it's driving me nuts!
  20. That's great info Dave. My only issue now is setting it up so it activated when the user logs in- never used a registry file before.
  21. The issue with profiles is we have a generic student profile for student logins (with desktop, start menu etc...). I'm struggling to understand how to implement the 'profile' thing? Could you give me some guidance please! x
  22. They didn't give me the answers i was looking for sadly... When the user logs on we basically need the following to occur: - Extra Large mouse cursor - Slow mouse cursor - A short trail behind the mouse cursor - Font size 36 - Inverted black and yellow colour scheme If someone can find a solution to this without having to use external software and purely using Group Policy or a login script- then you will be the only person on the internet because i can't find ANYTHING that helps these people with visual impairments in such a way. x
  23. There seems to be a massive gaping hole on the internet that helps with the visually impaired and windows 7... Are there any theme packs that have already been created, that i can download to help this child???
