    Looks like this worked, installed everything etc... restarted- no SIMS in start menu or in C: drive... very bizarre! Doing it again...

    What do you suggest i do re permissions? I've found the connect.ini file but it doesn't do anything.

    Hi, We are upgrading our admin system machines here at school and instead of forking out over £1000 for Oneconnect to come in and upgrade them from XP to Windows 7, I thought i'd do it myself. All gone well except installing SIMS and FMS! SIMS is on our server. Gone into our S: drive, sims setups, found the SIMSInst file but that doesn't work- it says the 'Infrastructure is missing' so i tried the SIMS Application setup. All went well but on launching it, it says: The SIMS.ini file cannot be located or is incomplete which means the system cannot be automatically updated. What is going wrong? Help very much appreciated! xx

    Hello! I'm after doing the same thing but when i open SIMS after installing it brings up a notice saying it cannot connect to SIMS.ini. I've had a look for it but all i can find is a connect.ini file in the SIMS folder NOT in the SIMS Setup folder... am i missing something? If I want to uninstall SIMS and re-install- how do i do that? Can't see it in the ADD / REMOVE Programs list... We're running server 2008 R2.

    Well I used MDT to create a boot image...i think...i got a bit confused with the MDT / WDS thing because i was pointing to shares here and there and so i probably used it... :/ Don't know what's happening anymore.

    CRACKED IT!!! Turns out the original image I captured must have been corrupt or something. Thanks for all your help everyone. Not sure why the image was corrupt or not working properly as i've been round the houses and back on this one and can't tell my backside from my elbow now. If only there were some script or ANYTHING that did all this for you... You put in everything you want installing, domain joining, where etc... (in really basic, simple language) into a visual display and then press GO. x

    Thanks for this- I want to use WDS as I have over 20 machines to image so this wouldn't be the best option With WDS I can install an image onto multiple machines at once in about 15 minutes.     Sadly- the above doesn't work so it must be the image. Harumph! Thankyou for your help on this. It's the first time i've ever used WDS to capture / deploy an image so i must have mucked it up somewhere.

    Okay. Removed and rejoined- STILL NO JOY!? This makes me sad. I thought it would be much less time consuming and simpler than this to deploy an image... Do you recommend changing the computer name?

    Yep resolving no problem... I have a sneaking suspicion it is something to do with the way the PC has joined to the domain... Just checking it now. Removed / rejoined to see if that sorts it.

    Getting this from gpupdate /r: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer na me. This could be caused by one of more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain co ntroller has not replicated to the current domain controller).

    Now then. I don't know what that means. :/ I did do the sysprep thing on the pc getting imaged... did i need to sysprep all the others too that were having the image applied??

    Hi, I've successfully managed to image some of our machines but they're getting stuck as they are not applying the Computer Config settings. Checked in gpupdate and they're getting the user settings but not the computer ones from AD. Why? Checked DNS and the forward addresses are there but nothing in reverse lookup. Could this be it? What can i do? Do i need to re-join them to the domain?

    I haven't got as far as capturing the image yet... just trying to deploy Windows 7 to a machine using WDS / MDT... this works doesn't it?!

    The image i'm using is a downloaded one with SP 1 already in it... could this be the problem?

    I'm struggling. Upon PXE booting everything goes great until the Setup is preparing you computer for first use screen- i've got an error saying 'the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error to install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation' Any help appreciated!!

    Okay now then- I have installed MDT, managed to create a Lite touch image for booting and successfully managed to use WDS to send this Lite Touch image to a PC booting using PXE (phew!) exciting. The next thing i need to know is once the basic image has been installed on the client how do i capture that image after installing apps etc...? Do I have to boot it in audit mode? Or do a sysprep? And after that- do i use WDS to pull that image back to the server so i can deploy it to the other clients?? The other PC's are all the same model for this task.
