We haven;t heard anything about our installation date since we got our application approved. The data point is to be installed the first week of the summer holidays - if I don't hear anything I'll not bother getting it installed and it will save some pennies!
-
We never did go for it in the end.

The schools broadband connection is the heart beat running through the school - it is essential that this works now for a school to operate. Cutting corners / reducing bandwith will have a detrimental effect on everything that we do. Self hosting websites Self hosting mail servers VLE's etc etc, for those schools that provide access to youtube for staff - they may have to think again as there may not be enough bw to go round!

RM CC3 ActivInspire Deployment
Sylv3r replied to thenetworkmanager's topic in Promethean Direct Support
If you have access to the RM communities website theres a how to guide on there - I followed this and it works for us no problems. -
We use schoolcentre.net for our School Development Plans and will be using it come September for our staff PM arrangements. It was relatively easy to setup, but not sure what its going to be like using it.
-
We don't use anything - and I hope there not reading this on here as we don't want to use anything also )
-
We've used it for 2 or 3 years now. Mainly just on our photocopiers rather than our networked printers. Eventually we will look at redirecting jobs etc.

28 for me and been here 17 years! 7 as a pupil and 10 working here. Technician is 25 and he is also an ex student. Apprentice on placement from college is 22 and you guessed it an ex student!

Official Broadband requirements
Sylv3r replied to sparkeh's topic in East Midlands Broadband Consortium (EMBC)
I hear the words coco compliant banded around quite a bit - this is something I believe the ISP requires. http://www.microsoft.com/uk/publicsector/government/information-governance/get-coco-while-its-hot.aspx -
I think the version of Omnigraph we have is on a floppy disk - I think I copied the install files to a CD when the last of our computers with FDD left us. The staff haven't requested an updated copy, so it must still do what they need it to do.

Govt to claw back 25% of 2010 - 11 Harnessing Technology Grants
Sylv3r replied to tech_guy's topic in General Chat
We get our full allocation at the start of the financial year for Harnessing Technology from the LA - this pays for our Broadband connection which has been paid for. I would doubt the LA will claw the money back from us now, but they will probably take the money out before we receive our budget next year - on the quiet. -
I'm sure our school registered their interest 18 months + ago and they still haven't received them - the 8500 - 9000 outstanding sets will probably never be received.
-
I have some documents somewhere on this I think - I'll try and dig them out.
-
As a school, I just do not understand how we are expected to operate the way we do currently. Removal of the Harnessing Technology grant means that broadband provision has to be taken from the Main School budget, what was once a safe place to be for employment, this is no longer the case for education. Budgets are becoming tighter and tighter all of them and voluntary / compulsory redundancies are likely in most schools - who goes first? Support staff or teaching staff?

No issues here - are you behind a firewall etc such as smoothwall? We had to tweak a couple of things within the proxy settings for it to work through our smoothwall box originally.

[NEW VERSION]Facebook privacy settings - extra information
Sylv3r replied to elsiegee40's topic in e-Safety
Thanks again. -
Just to update this - no noticeable slow downs for me, only been using it for 30 mins or so.
-
I'm generally happy to help if i've got the time. Generally a lot of help I do with other schools is over the phone rather than having to have a ride out to them.

This is my first visit in about 4 days - just catching up on all the posts now!

We use our classroom booking system here for hardware loans too. It gives the opportunity for staff to book the kit themselves instead of e-mailing us as well as allowing us to track who last used the equipment.
-
Could well be Hardware specific. I've just installed it on my MacBook = 224MB and 315MB on my iMAC.

I believe it was mentioned at the conference that the chat feature will return to the site.
-
We use kerboodle and smoothwall and have had reports it sometimes doesn't work but I have never actually seen it not working - its always fine when I get there!
-
Sounds a little overkill for me, but I would certainly back it if asked. We have around 1050 workstations plus 160 laptops and we don't fire fight, although some days I admit are busier than others!
