Does Such A Thing Exist? (Interactive display)
Sylv3r replied to AngryITGuy's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
I use several RDP apps with my iPAD and they do take a little getting used to at first, but they are ultimately easy to use in the long run - the ipad would also be a lot more flexible with the number of things it could do - however more desirable for the member of staff or students to 'borrow'. -
I have one of these: Cygnett Lavish for iPad (Black) And its not too bad - I think I would rather have gone for the official Apple hard case now, after seeing it used by someone else.

Nope no problems, theres sometimes I write something then think twice before posting however!

As John mentioned above - I would seriously doubt the LA will provide any funding back if you decide to opt out of their services. I think if you do choose to go to another provider you will have to take the hit with the top sliced funding that the LA keeps. Each LA is different of course, but the money kept from your school helps subsidies the costs for all other schools.

Video Conferencing with French schools
Sylv3r replied to K.C.Leblanc's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We conference with a secondary school in france quite often. They are unable to dial us directly and we can't dial them for some bizarre reason and have to go through their county hall equivalent who then forward us to the school. They have Polycom kit the same as what we have, I am not sure of their connection speed but quality is generally good. This school does not have their own IT Support and require a technical person from their LA (equivalent) to come out to the school when we wish to conference. For some reason everytime we conference with them they invite the town mayor so they make it quite a big deal. -
50% of our HT money that we see is around £14k - it is unlikely to be clawed back this year but our budget will be short next year prior to receiving it from the LA. Remember your LA may topslice this before it gets to you so it may not be the full 50% you will lose.

We've used them for our last projector repair and found them slow and expensive, and tried to charge us even though the projector was under warranty with Sanyo (They put us in touch with TP Matrix) - we will be looking for someone else to resolve our next projector problem.

It certainly is a lot more complex than the RM Printer credit system, but it does a load of additional features. I don't think you will be able to transfer across printer credit data - it would be advisable to start a clean slate for all users.

I was wanting to add this to our School face book page - I agree if its only available for 13 - 18 year olds it hits the target audience but it might as well be available to all to help spread the word.

I've been disappointed this series - it might as well be people working in a mcdonalds restaurant than an ICT Support office.

Has anybody tried using Google Analytics with Sharepoint? I have had a quick search on the internet and people seem to have mixed views whether it works or not. If you did get it to work, i'd be interested in any pointers you may have. Cheers

Hi all Not sure if this is possible, but here goes. We haev a media streaming server in school that is accessible via our sharepoint install. What I would like to do if possible, is when clicking on the link within school it uses the local address for the server and when accessed outside of school it uses the external details. I think what I am after is something like: When clicked access mms://172.16.0.5/stream.wmv if not available goto mms://schoolname.com/stream.wmv Cheers Andrew

Is there a free network monitoring program
Sylv3r replied to mrb-solutions's topic in Network and Classroom Management
TightVNC here with no problems. We use it more as a support tool, rather than a classroom management tool. -
I can't get some of the apps working on my iPAD with our smoothwall box either. Not that a massive problem, just strange.

It's probably the macros / embedded flash that will not run for the students. Will depend what version of office you use and how strict your security settings are within. I have turned the security off for our Office 2007 software to allow macros without prompt etc.
-
We dont use the same model, but the ones we have are basically the same. No problems what so ever with them.

As pointed out the SIMS webparts are what you are looking for - they can do a lot more than just feeding back student data, but they are not cheap. I could be wrong, but I don't think they sell them individually and you will have to buy the whole package. You will also need to be running sharepoint for the webparts to dispplay. If you are using moodle, I believe there is something similar but I haven't seen it in action so can't comment on how good it is etc.

I love to see Spain play, knocking the ball along the floor all of the time to each other, but fancy the dutch winning on Sunday for some bizarre reason.
