  1. We don't use Spiceworks but we use the internal notes part of our helpdesk and it works well internally amongst IT staff.
  2. Hi @Brimstone It's on the list of recommendations to put to the school, we currently use Airwatch in our school and have previously used Meraki. So we are are aware of the benefits of an MDM. I've just got to confidence the HT that the current setup isn't fit for purpose.
  3. They aren't using an MDM or have used Apple Configurator. These have just been set as standalone devices. The e-mail address that appears is the only one that apps have been purchased under.
  4. We've just started to support a local primary school and this is happening on nearly all of their devices. We know the password for the appleID setup and when entered it stops prompting - it's just an absolute pain we've got 80 iPads to sort. As far as I know no new apps have been installed, it's either started to happen since the recent iOS8.3 upgrade or because apps are sitting in the AppStore needing updates.
  5. I saw this demoed today. Looked good - 200 free endpoints included Free of Charge and you don't need to have Netgear switches as it will pick up all vendors. Not tried it on my network yet, so can't comment on the usability or how successful it was with our HP switches. NETGEAR Support | NMS300 | Network Management Software
  6. The last e-mail I had from them said the update was optional - I think I received this last week, so I haven't bothered, unless theres a compulsory update out since.
  7. Should be possible to do via Safari - whether the comments are hidden via the YouTube app I am not sure.
  8. We are doing this, but just keeping it to paper and marking with a 'X' just like the real thing.
  9. We've had some information from another LA where we have a LAC student who are running the same software. As @HappyAdmin pointed out above, I too had some concerns but after running some questions past the guy on the end of the phone I was happy with the replies and so proceeded to install the software. This was around 6 weeks ago and to be honest i'd forgotten all about it until reading this thread.
  10. We bought 120 Zoostorm PC's last year. 3 I think DOA which can be expected in such a large order. To be honest since they have been setup and added to our network they have been flawless - one small criticism was their On / Off power button on the front of the PC's is a little over sensitive and we had the odd student knock it by mistake or with the keyboard only to find windows shutting down on them.
  11. Are you hosted or self hosted? We are self hosted and we just reset the passwords in AD.
  12. I've not seen the error before but have you got the latest runtime library installed - I think it generally used to ask at the end of the installation, but it may have changed as part of the upgrade.
  13. We've got a Server 2008 Terminal Server setup for both staff and students which works well - intact it has probably outgrown it's audience and certainly on a sunday night when the last minute pancreas all sign in, things run a little slow. It's about time we looked at something more robust which can load balance things for us.
  14. We looked at School Asset Manager | The only complete asset management solution for education and liked the product, but decided against purchasing it as our own purpose built system gave us everything we needed at no cost.
  15. To be honest, you could lease the kit from any reseller. We've used Syscap Limited | Independent Finance Provider before in the past without any issues. Leasing is never really my preferred route, unless something needs changing and theres not sufficient budget to cover it. If your an academy theres rules in place regarding the length of time you can lease for and with regards to the types of leases available for you to use - you need to be looking at an operating lease, but any company you speak to will know all the rules etc put in place by the DfE.
  16. We've got Sanyo's, Epsons and Hitachi projectors here and I must admit the Hitachi ones are pretty robust and we are finding the image quality lasts much longer than the other brands. Over the last two years we've only bought Hitachi projectors for both us and our primary schools.
  17. We set this up and our network around a week ago and a MacMini we had lying about. It's working perfectly and saving us a hell of a lot on bandwidth. Even when staff and students are updating apps it's pulling it from the cache rather than a new download.
  18. We've got a smooth wall box too and we love it. Like anything it has it's issues, especially when rolling out updates etc, but the support is generally pretty good and issues are often resolved pretty quickly. We don't use it, but theres an option for your Smoothwall to filter student devices off site too - Smoothwall Connect I think it's called.
  19. I fancied one around christmas time but just bought myself a micrososft band. Yes, it's not as hands on as the Apple watch and is more for notifications but I must admit I do like it.
  20. We looked at a range of products and as @gsk, we've gone for Screen Connect. It looks a superb product and through our early tests is working well.
  21. We have done here what you originally suggested. All students have been setup with FTP accounts and they just connect directly with Dreamweaver. Once the details are in nothing else really needs setting up - staff and students here find it relatively simple to use.
  22. We don't but I've seen a couple on twitter updating staff and students of issues etc.
  23. I guess it would be down to the number of machines you wish to install the agent and whether they are all switched on. However, I would imagine an hour would be more than enough for an average size school
  24. It's an issue with the latest version of Dropbox. If you are on the RM Communities, have a search for dropbox. Theres a thread that mentions a previous version that will install fine. use something like FileHippo.com - Download Free Software to download the working version and install it. Everything should go through then it will auto update to the latest dropbox version which will work.
  25. The guide that @sparkeh has posted was the exact one I used. As long as you follow it carefully you should be setup in no time.
